The Stormtroopers are a Decepticon subgroup from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Let's hope their aim is better than those OTHER Stormtroopers!

The Stormtroopers are a squad of Decepticons who use high-pressure fluid weapons. Sometimes it's simply water, sometimes it's acid, sometimes... don't ask.

The team includes:

• Rage, the team's psychotic leader
• Aquablast, the engineer and repair-bot
• Drench, the unit coordinator
• Hydradread, the scientist

The squad has an Autobot counterpart called the Aquaspeeders.

The Stormtroopers were part of Bludgeon's raiding party in the attack on London. Their job was to trash the city, and they were good at it. War Without End

They later attacked Megatron with the intention of killing him, and they were not good at it. Megatron easily withstood their attacks, and struck back to devastating effect. War Zone

Wings Universe

Rage and his Stormtroopers were active as Decepticon criminals in Quarex nine million years ago. Along with Roadgrabber, Terror-Tread and Cement-Head, they were mostly small-time raiders looking for the "big score" that would get them noticed by the Decepticon generals. Rage's biggest success was the Metrotitan: a mighty fortress left standing by the Decepticons after a battle in Glibax, which he had claimed and retrofitted into a mobile city and base of operations.

For their next heist, the Stormtroopers looked to Median, and the archeological dig which had uncovered the Heart of the Dragon, a laser core of unspeakable power. Rage and the Troopers fought their way through two Elite Guard detachments to steal the Heart. Aquablast was killed acquiring the notes of the archaeometrist, Glyph, but the other Stormtroopers made it safely back to Metrotitan with the Heart.

To properly test his new toy, Rage had Hydradread encase the Heart's laser core in a miniaturized form first before moving on to install it in the Metrotitan itself. Drench wasn't thrilled with Rage's new search for power for power's sake, and assisted the Autobots in dealing with the tiny terror known as Brimstone created from the Heart. The creature's power levels eventually overloaded its frame, and it exploded from the inside out.

Due to some creative embellishing in the Elite Guard field reports, the final fate of Rage and Hydradread is unknown. It's possible they were captured, escaped, or consumed in Brimstone's unholy conflagration. Drench seemed comfortable with his change in allegiance, though, and was even preparing to submit an application to the Elite Guard. Flames of Yesterday

2005 IDW continuity

The Stormtroopers (or possibly just three of them—Rage was nowhere to be seen) were part of the Decepticon crew under Turmoil's command. They tried and failed to restrain Deadlock after he attempted to start a mutiny and overthrow Turmoil, and Drench was killed in the process. Drift issue 1

Rage was among a group of Decepticons who conquered Temptoria following the end of the war. They hadn't been there long when they were beaten soundly by the crew of the Lost Light, who proceeded to liberate the planet. Before & After After being brought back to Cybertron, Rage and his comrades were released by Ravage during the trial of Megatron. Sold individually in the ninth and final year of the original European/Australasian-market Transformers toyline (which used the packaging style and new faction symbols used in Generation 2 despite not being part of Generation 2), the Stormtroopers are a squad of souped-up sports cars, each with a bellows-fed water squirting "cannon". The water-shooting assembly is functional in both vehicle and robot modes, becoming oversized hand-held weapons in the latter. The toys do not need to incorporate the water-shooters in their vehicle modes, but they do look less impressive without them, as well as leaving some notable gaps in the exterior.

Each robot's hood/chest is covered in color changing paint, turning pale when hit with warm water (or being left out in the sun), and returning to normal colors once it cools off. There is an issue where the color-changing portions may turn permanently pale if stored for long periods in overly-warm places, like an attic. So like... if you haven't had that happen yet, don't do that.

The Stormtroopers were re-released the following year as part of the first wave of the European/Australasian Generation 2 toyline. Like all of the re-released product this year, there are no notable changes to the toys themselves, only new packaging.

Notes

• According to their Tech Specs, the Stormtroopers are the most intelligent AND skilled team in Transformers history. Aquablast, Drench, and Hydradread each have an intelligence ranking of 9, while Rage has a 10. In terms of skill, Drench and Rage have rankings of 9, while Hydradread and Aquablast both have a 10. Drench has a Firepower of 8, while the other three have 9. Cee-ripes.

Foreign names
