- A Walmart-exclusive redeco of Cybertron Hot Shot with a color scheme inspired by Generation 1 Getaway,[1] Breakaway transforms into a modified white Chrysler ME Four-Twelve concept car. He comes with a clear-red Cybertron-Autobot key that deploys transparent red wings from his spoiler when the key is inserted into the rear of the car. The toy also comes with a spring-loaded, missile-launching gun that can be carried in robot mode or pegged into the roof of the car mode.
- This mold was also used to make Cybertron Excellion and retooled to make Shattered Glass Goldbug.

- Breakaway (along with Crankcase and Fracture) was originally designed for the 2008 Universe line as a new version of Generation 1 Getaway, but the name did not clear trademark and Walmart insisted that he be placed into the Movie line instead (their logic being that the old Universe line eventually failed in the market, while the Movie line was a dramatic hit). The same is true for Big Daddy, Grindcore, Jolt and Divebomb, based on Hasbro product listings.[2]
- Breakaway's off-panel demise in Tales of the Fallen #6 seems rather handy because it prevents readers from confusing this Breakaway with another movieverse character of the same name.
