You ever read Enemy Mine?

Void Rivals is an ongoing comic series published by Skybound Entertainment starting in June 2023. The series serves as the launch of Skybound's Energon Universe, a shared universe featuring both Transformers and G.I. Joe coexisting alongside new creations.

Void Rivals issues:

Overview

War rages around the Sacred Ring, where the last remnants of the planets Agorria and Zertonia have collapsed around a black hole in a never-ending battle. However, when Agorrian pilot Darak and his Zertonian rival Solila crash on a desolate planet, these two enemies must find a way to escape together. But are they alone on this strange planet? What secrets have their world leaders been concealing from their populations? And what dark forces await that threaten the entire universe?

Creative team

Skybound founder Robert Kirkman writes the series, and his Oblivion Song collaborator Lorenzo De Felici drew the first 18 issues. Starting with #19, Conor Hughes took over as the new regular artist, with De Felici continuing to draw the main covers; Andrei Bressan fills in as artist for the "Quintesson War" arc in #25-30. Patricio Delpeche is the regular colorist, following a first arc colored primarily by Matheus Lopes, and Rus Wooton letters the series.

Notes

  • Void Rivals' status as the launch for the Energon Universe was kept secret for almost the entirety of the comic's promotion, with Kirkman only revealing its existence to retailers just before the first issue's FOC date. Bleeding Cool would ultimately leak it a few days before release.
  • While it initially seemed that Void Rivals' status as an original creation meant Skybound would own it, the copyright notice for the series, placed at the back of issue 1, reads, "VOID RIVALS and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro and are used with permission. © 2023 Hasbro. All Rights Reserved. Licensed by Hasbro." and includes the Hasbro logo. One has to wonder if that's how Kirkman got Hasbro to even sign off on the idea in the first place. Kirkman and De Felici receive additional credit, acknowledging them as the creators of Void Rivals, starting with issue #2.
