The inhabitants of the Sacred Ring may stand more of a chance against the Quintessons than either side thinks.

Synopsis

Solila uses her mastery of the Sacred Ring to transport Darak through the planet itself to the Agorrian Capital, in the midst of the planet-wide invasion of the Sharkticons. Meanwhile, aboard a Quintesson Cruiser, Cobra-La operative Pythona eavesdrops on the Quintesson Judge Makmun reporting to their superiors. Makmun’s report is a positive one for them; the Sacred Ring should soon be under complete Quintesson control, with no need to even bother sending in their Bailiffs or Executioners. Not even the soon-to-arrive Tribunal will wind up being needed. Pythona decides she isn’t going to spend any more time amongst this technological race, and makes her way through the ship, dispatching a Quintesson Prosecutor along the way.

At the Agorrian Capital, Darak and Solila emerge from the ground in front of Dulin, to his unexpected delight. Unfortunately, the news isn’t all good: the Agorrian forces aren’t doing well against the invaders. However, Darak hits upon the idea of using Energon to enhance their strength and healing abilities, which proves to be a massive help. Dulin attempts to contact Zalilak to inform him of this, but Solila volunteers to deliver the message in person with her powers. She emerges from the surface in the middle of another argument between him and Proximus.

Aboard Makmun’s cruiser, the Judge is shocked to see fellow Judge Naven having abandoned his own vessel; but it’s been destroyed! Naven frantically informs his comrade that the natives are far more dangerous than they planned for, and advocates throwing everything they have at them. Soon Bailiffs and Allicons join the battle, but they fare just as poorly against the Energon-powered Zertonians… when suddenly, the Energon’s healing properties restore Proximus’ damaged memories. He is Solila’s brother!

  • Back in #10, Springer explained that the Agorrian/Zertonian physiology was receptive to Energon, and used it to heal Solila’s impalement wound. This issue, however, is the first time we’ve seen the inhabitants of the Sacred Ring use Energon to enhance their strength.
  • Pythona snuck aboard one of the Quintesson Cruisers leaving for the Sacred Ring in #24.
  • Judge Makmun makes mention of an individual known as the Tribunal. Just what this individual means for the Sacred Ring remains to be seen…
  • He also name drops Executioners and Bailiffs among their forces, though no Executioners appear on-panel when they send out the, quote-unquote, “big guns”.
  • Judge Naven got his jaw punched off last issue.
  • We first learned that Solila had a brother back in #8, where a flashback told us that the siblings’ mother sold them to the military.   • Proximus being Solila’s brother is a conclusion many people came to back when it was first revealed that Solila had a brother in #8. Looking back on that issue, it was pretty heavily hinted at, to the point of it barely being a twist. A reader in this very issue’s letters page even makes mention of the theory!
  • Also in the letters page, Robert Kirkman confirms that the Skuxxoid will not be appearing in Void Rivals until #31, for fear he would take over the narrative of the Quintesson War.
