The Generation 1 cartoon continuity consists of the events depicted The Transformers, the cartoon that ran for four seasons from 1984 to 1987 and The Transformers: The Movie, which took place between seasons 2 and 3 of the cartoon.
If you saw it in the show or movie, its "Generation 1 cartoon continuity" canon, but there are a couple of items of note.
- Marvel Comics published a comic adaptation of the movie which depicted some of the events differently.
- The Secret Files of Teletraan II are short (1–2 minute) profiles that aired at the end of some season 3 episodes and are part of the continuity.
- The comics The Transformers and Rodimus vs. Cyclonus were written to be in continuity with the cartoon.
- Several of Hasbro's other cartoons had minor crossovers with The Transformers, most notably the character Hector Ramirez.[1] In the Transformers Animated book Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II, the character Vector Prime stated that these shows were canon in the cartoon universe. The shows include: G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, C.O.P.S., Inhumanoids, and Jem and the Holograms.
Generation 1 cartoon continuity
The events of seasons 1 and 2 took place in the current time of when the episodes aired—that is in 1984 and 1985. The movie jumped the setting twenty years into the future and took place in 2005. The third and fourth seasons followed from there. Some of the events of the 20 year gap can be inferred, but, for the most part, have gone unexplored.
The purpose of the Secret Files of Teletraan II was, in part, to fill in viewers who may not be familiar with the movie. Some of the historical events it depicts are different than the events of the movie. For instance, the Secret Files state that the Decepticons had lost the war by the year 2000 and have been exiled to Chaar from that time to the start of season 3. In the movie, the Decepticons controlled Cybertron in 2005 and were exiled to Chaar by the events of the movie.
