1987's Transformers: The Headmasters (トランスフォーマー ザ★ヘッドマースターズ) toyline is the third year of Takara's "Generation 1" toyline. It is largely just the same toys released by Hasbro in the West that year with little to no alteration. However, there are a number of toys exclusive to The Headmasters, most of which still command large sums on the secondary market due to rarity (or at least perceived rarity in the West).

Most of the prior year's Transformers 2010 product was still available through 1987.

The Headmasters toyline also included the Beastformers subline, which Hasbro marketed in the West as the completely separate property Battle Beasts.

Beastformers

Though Beastformers would eventually split off into its own tangentially-connected toyline, the initial set of twenty-eight toys was sold under the Transformers banner in similarly-designed boxes, with Autobot/Decepticon rubsigns. Though not technically branded under the The Headmasters label, we're putting them here for convenience's sake since they were advertised in the Headmasters pack-in catalogs.
