Liokaiser is a Decepticon combiner from the Victory portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
They call me Kibblefree!

Liokaiser (ライオカイザー Raiokaizā) is the combined form of the Breastforce, an elite combat team consisting of land and air assault vehicles who hail from the Death Zone. He is powerful, cruel, merciless, and — unlike pretty much every other combiner — intelligent to boot. This ruthless killing machine is an expert in melee combat and possesses the power of invisibility. He's fought against Star Saber, Road Caesar, Landcross, and Galaxy Shuttle, promptly beating the stuffing out of each. His emergence swung the war heavily in favour of the Decepticons until God Ginrai was reborn as Victory Leo. It's possible the only opponents he can't contend with are Victory Saber and Deathsaurus, but that won't stop him trying.

Liokaiser is composed of the Decepticons Leozack, Drillhorn, Guyhawk, Hellbat, Jallguar, and Killbison. Despite their unusually high levels of coordination and ruthlessness, Liokaiser's performance may suffer if the individual minds get distracted. In some universes, Deathsaurus takes Leozack and Jallguar's place as a 5-bot combiner, with Ion Scythe serving as a weapon.

As the war between Autobots and Decepticons intensified on Earth, Deathsaurus began calling in members of the Breastforce to aid him. Although effective on their own, team leader Leozack began making preparations to unleash his team's true potential, leading an attack on Planet Micro to liberate Guyhawk Rescue! Guyhawk and calling in his more trustworthy comrade Deathcobra to replace the scheming Hellbat as part of Liokaiser. Unfortunately, Hellbat arrived bearing news of Deathcobra's death at the hands of Holi — in truth covering his own role in his fellow Decepticon's murder — and the Breastforce would perform their first combination "in some time" to battle Star Saber, who arrived in defense of Holi and his friends.

Liokaiser proved a great challenge for Star Saber, badly damaging and nearly defeating him. Star Saber was only saved by the arrival of God Ginrai, but he too proved no match for Liokaiser on his own. Working together, the injured Autobots managed to immobilize Liokaiser and deliver a flurry of powerful blows. Deciding to call it a day after that, Liokaiser separated into his components and withdrew. Unite! Liokaiser

The ease at which Liokaiser matched Star Saber in battle left a dark cloud on Jan Minakaze's mind, leading him to beg Star Saber to defeat the new Decepticon combiner when they next met. Such a chance arrived when Deathsaurus' forces attempted to steal Schaeffer Energy, and the Breastforce combined once again to battle Star Saber. Liokaiser soon found himself at an advantage, especially when Star Saber abandoned the fight to stop a tower from falling on a residential area, but he was prevented from finishing his foe when the Brainmasters intervened in their combined form, Road Caesar. Liokaiser proceeded to dominate his new opponent, but the battle gave Holi and his team time to evacuate the civilians, allowing Star Saber to rejoin the fray. The Autobot leader launched a furious assault on Liokaiser, but the fight was interrupted by Deathsaurus, who had secured the Schaeffer Energy. Liokaiser was thus forced to withdraw with his allies, but not before warning Star Saber that his presence would allow the Decepticons to plunder Earth as they wished.

"Right, where's my invisible sandwich?"

Later Hellbat came up with a plan to steal energy from Antarctica which Deathsaurus approved. When the Multiforce Autobots Wing and Mach showed up, the Breastforce decided to engage in some overkill by combining into Liokaiser. The Autobots were outclassed by Liokaiser, but the rest of the Multiforce arrived and they all combined into Landcross. Liokaiser's ability to become invisible allowed him to trounce Landcross and the Multiforce were forced to separate again. Wing and Mach used a multi-gamma string to grab Liokaiser and throw them in the Decepticon's mine shaft but he was able to cling to the mining equipment and escape. The Multiforce combined again but with no more of a plan than the first time, were set upon by the invisible Liokaiser. Star Saber was able to arrive to save Landcross's hide, but Liokaiser claimed that Star Saber had no more right to Earth than the Decepticons. Even Star Saber had trouble against Liokaiser, who unleashed a "Battle Explosion" maneuver, in which he briefly separated so the individual Breastforce could attack. They continued to fight until Liokaiser had Star Saber on the ropes, at which point Galaxy Shuttle jumped in the way of the Decepticon's attack. As Liokaiser was about to finish Star Saber, Deathsaurus stepped in to do the job himself, though Liokaiser believed he himself should have been the one to face the Autobot. He retreated when the drilling device was destroyed. Fight to the Death!! Antarctic Battle

Later the Decepticons set a trap for the Autobots in the desert, it was going well until Guyhawk's old friend Greatshot showed up and turned the tide. Guyhawk suggested they combine into Liokaiser, but Leozack overrode him; the other members of the Breastforce had sustained too much damage from Greatshot to do so. As such, the villains were forced to retreat. Crisis! Ambush in the Desert

"Behold the awesome weapon that NONE of my toys have! Except the PVC figure, but that doesn't count."

Liokaiser appeared again in an attack on an Autobot base in Asia, but it turned out to be a trap to destroy Star Saber. After damaging the V-Star, the Breastforce combined to meet Star Saber in combat. After the Autobot leader broke Liokaiser's Electromagnetic Nunchaku with his sword, Liokaiser led him into a ring of explosive statues before disappearing. Star Saber subsequently fell into a pit, where he was set on by Deathsaurus, and Liokaiser dropped a boulder on him, bragging that the Decepticons would be able to do whatever they wanted to the planet after Star Saber perished. Before he and Deathsaurus were able to destroy him, God Ginrai came to the rescue again. As Deathsaurus pounded on Ginrai, Star Saber was held by Liokaiser so he was unable to come to his comrade's aid. Star Saber broke free and stabbed Deathsaurus. Though badly injured, the Decepticon leader would have fought on, but Liokaiser convinced him to retreat when Autobot reinforcements arrived. A Deadly Battle.

Liokaiser would not be used again until much later, when Leozack was pretending to be Star Saber in a mission to get the Unification plans for the Autobot leader and Victory Leo. Leozack managed to return the plans to the Breastforce, but they were confronted by Victory Leo and Star Saber, who merged into Victory Saber. The Breastforce responded by combining into Liokaiser, but the combiner was easily defeated by Victory Saber. He fled through the ruins, collapsing him behind him and almost got Victory Saber that way, but no dice. A Mystery?! The Deception of the Base Bombs

"B-but I don't want to get a "Greyscale" redeco!"

When Deathsaurus raised Atlantis, the Breastforce was sent to keep Star Saber busy. When he and Victory Leo merged, so did the Breastforce, but Liokaiser wasn't much of a match for Victory Saber. As a huge tsunami headed towards them, Liokaiser separated so the Breastforce could board the Thunder Arrow, leaving Victory Saber to face the wave alone. The Terror of the Giant Tidal Waves After Deathsaurus's Planet-Destroying Fortress was up and running again, Liokaiser attempted to stop Victory Saber, but only lasted a few seconds before being blasted back into the fortress in one shot. The Wrath of the Resurrected Giant Fortress! As the Fortress neared Earth, Liokaiser was sent out to stop Victory Saber from entering it, thought with orders not to kill the Autobot. At one point, Victory Saber separated, with only Victory Leo staying to face Liokaiser, but the combiner had trouble even with just him. After struggling with the Autobot for a time, Liokaiser managed to fling Victory Leo away, only for a burst of fire from the Autobot's guns to sent him flying into the Fortress's main cannon. Still charging, the cannon drained him of his energy, and Liokaiser's lifeless grey body was flung off into space. Showdown! The Fortress vs the Victory Unification

Revived from death by some means and lead by the reborn Dark Emperor Deathsaurus, Liokaiser joined several other powerful Decepticons in an assault on planet Zone. Attempting to steal their Energon Z, the Decepticons proved no match for the Micromasters and were driven away. What became of Liokaiser after this is unknown. Zone Project Story

Victory manga

"Don't make me turn this combiner around!"

Frustrated at not being able to find the Breastforce, Jan Minakaze kicked a piece of junk over a rise, only to hear a noise of pain from Liokaiser, who was hiding behind it. Liokaiser announced that, as Deathsaurus was laid up with some illness, Jan and Star Saber were going to have to face him instead. Jan and Star Saber combined, but were seized by the combiner, only for his component parts to start arguing over which of them would finish the Autobots off. Distracted, Liokaiser was thus unable to prevent the pair wriggling free and ganging up on him. The Breastforce retreated hastily. The Star of Friendship, Jan and Star Saber!

Liokaiser, Dinoking and Deathsaurus were finally able to bring down Star Saber in battle, but before they could finish him off, Victory Leo came to the rescue. The two Autobots combined into Victory Saber, but the Decepticons attacked anyway and were blasted by Victory Saber's Flash Victory attack, forcing another retreat. The Strongest Partners, the Combination of Victory! Deathsaurus and Liokaiser continued to plunder Earth's energy, with the Autobots seemingly powerless to stop them. Liokaiser had Braver and Laster at his mercy when Blacker arrived and the Brainmasters were able to form Road Caesar. Even Solon Kitakaze turned against his former Decepticon comrades. With power lent to them by the Victories, Victory Saber and Road Caesar were able to send the Decepticons packing. Shine! The Five Stars of Victory

Facing Victory Saber, Liokaiser was bemused by his foe's speech constantly being interrupted by Victory Leo's head. He's Here! Victory Saber!! Just as Star Saber had Deathsaurus on the ropes, the Decepticon leader brought in Liokaiser. Star Saber attempted unsuccessfully to distract the combiner with some tuna, and ended up having to hide from the two Decepticons. Don't Lose! Star Saber!!

IDW Generation 1 continuity

Victory

Why this has not been reissued yet, we will never know.
  • Liocaesar [sic] (Multi-pack, 1989)
    • Japanese ID number: D-335
    • Component members/Accessories: Leozack (Liokaiser head), Drillhorn, Guyhawk, Hellbat, Jallguar (2 missiles), Killbison (2 cannons, combined gun handle)
Released only in Japan, Liokaiser is a unique and highly sought-after combiner. Unlike most other combiners at its time of release, Liokaiser has almost no "combiner kibble", his feet and hands being built into the component robots. Only his combined-mode head is a separate accessory; even his hand-weapon is assembled from Killbison and Jallguar's extra weapons. However, in this form, the individuals' breastplate-animal partners cannot be stored and must be put aside.
Though his components were all sold as individuals, they were also available in a single Liokaiser box set.
Four of the six components to Liokaiser were used to make the European-exclusive Rescue Force. Unless you are in need of an armless combiner whose head is tiny, you should not attempt to combine them.

Generations

Cat, I'm a kitty cat, and I dance dance dance and I dance dance dance.
  • Liokaiser (Platinum Edition Collection Pack, November 2016)
    • Accessories: 2 pairs of Weapon/Combiner extremities (both white & dark gray), 2 Sword-rifles, 2 pairs of double-barreled guns (both white & dark gray), Ironbison's Tank cannon/gun, Drillhorn's Drill-gun, Ion Scythe
Generations Combiner Wars Liokaiser is composed of the Destrons, including "Dezarus"—who is a retool of Combiner Wars Sky Lynx in homage to his dragon-like monster alt-mode. His tooling changes include a new shuttle nose/dragon face finned helmet, and a new combiner mode face (underneath the upper half of Sky Reign's head, now used as a helmet) inspired by the original Liokaiser's.
All four limbs include new, animation-accurate heads—Fellbat (renamed for obvious reasons) and Guyhawk were redecoed/retooled from Combiner Wars Skydive and Air Raid respectively (with two of their double-barreled guns each), whilst Ironbison (also renamed) and Drillhorn were redecoed/retooled from Combiner Wars Brawl (with Drillhorn using BotCon 2016 General Ramhorn's drill). Also included is Ion Scythe, a new character redecoed from Arms Micron Gul.
Unlike the original Liokaiser toy, Platinum Edition Liokaiser is designed to have his legs attached with the tank body facing forward as opposed to facing sideways. While the legs can be attached sideways to achieve a look similar to the original toy's design, doing so will rob Liokaiser of his functional knees.
Liokaiser also comes with a collector card and a huge poster based on his packaging art in a large box, as the only Combiner Wars "Collection Pack" that's co-branded as part of the Platinum Edition range. Strangely, despite having Ion Scythe serve as his main weapon, the package art omits the weapon-bot and instead depicts Liokaiser holding a blaster from one of his component robots, as well as giant nunchaku which the toy (sadly) does not include.
In the United States, this set was officially exclusive to online retailer Entertainment Earth, but was also stocked by competitor BigBadToyStore, which obtained its stock through Asian vendors. In Hasbro's Asian markets such as Hong Kong and Singapore, it was available at general retail. Additionally, it was also sold at Ripley stores in Chile and at Myer stores in Australia, whereas in Canada, it was available via the Canadian Walmart website, but never sold in stores.

Merchandise

  • Transformers Choco Liokaiser (Kabaya kit, 1989)
A tiny non-transforming "candy toy" model kit version of Liokaiser was made available during the original Victory series.
  • Transformers Gum Liokaiser (Kabaya kit, 1989)
A transforming "candy toy" model kit version of Liokaiser was made available during the original Victory series. Composed of two normal-sized Kabaya gum kits, this little model kit can pull off the individual robot modes, vehicle modes, combined mode, and even comes with detachable breast plate/guns. The only thing missing is the breast plate's animal transformation.

  • Liokaiser (SCF, 2002)
In 2002, a PVC mini-figurine of Liokaiser was released in the seventh Super Collection Figure series. All of the PVCs in this series were available in both full-color and solid pewter-painted versions, in blind-packed boxes.
Notably, this was the only Liokaiser figure to feature his trademark Nunchakus.

Notes

  • Although his name is pronounced and often written as "Liokaiser", the 1989 toy's paperwork calls him "Liocaesar", in English. This is at odds with Road Caesar's name, which is pronounced as it would be in English. Then again, the same paperwork consistently spells "Breastforce" as "Brestforce", so who knows.
  • Kre-O Liokaiser holds the distinction of being the first fiction-only Micro-Changer Combiner, but like most comic Kreons he's still made up of existing Kre-O parts. His Leozack torso includes the Starscream helmet and wing-pack (worn backwards), while his Guyhawk arm uses Dirge's nosecone and wings with two Starscream arm blasters clipped onto the same type of brick used to hold the Dirge wings. His Killbison leg is mostly covered and hard to make out, but appears to make use of the Bludgeon/Warpath treads.
