Gozer the Gozerian, also known as Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar and the Traveler, is powerful and malevolent entity from beyond the universe, dedicated to the destruction of worlds. Uniquely however, not only must Gozer first be invited/summoned into the realm it seeks to destroy, it also allows the inhabitants of the hapless world it lands on to choose the form of their destroyer, though with a rather liberal interpretation of the word "choose."

I tried to think of the most harmful thing. Something that could always, always, betray us.

When the Autobots fled Cybertron at the end of the Great War, Gozer appeared on Cybertron to the Decepticons. While Shockwave and Soundwave advocated caution, Starscream responded with a null-ray, the unamused entity reflecting the attack back at the Decepticons. When Megatron approached it, Gozer asked him to choose the image of Cybertron's destroyer. Picking up Starscream's passing thought that only he was powerful enough to destroy Cybertron, Gozer disappeared and rematerialized as a titanic version of the Seeker. Though the Decepticons were quick to counterattack, Gozer was more powerful than even the combiners, even destroying the starships that the Decepticons could have used to escape. As the battle raged, a red being appeared to Megatron and turned him and his forces into ghosts so they could live through Gozer. With no opposition remaining, Gozer utterly destroyed Cybertron. In the year 1984, roughly a thousand years after it had destroyed Cybertron, Gozer ran afoul of the Ghostbusters in New York City but failed to destroy Earth. As a result of this encounter, the Ghostbusters were willing to partially believe the spectral Starscream's tale, Egon Spengler noting that they knew "the Traveler" had visited other planets, while Ectronymous Diamatron had never heard of the being.
