| The name or term "Grimlock" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Grimlock (disambiguation). |
- Grimlock is an Autobot Dinobot from the Cyberverse continuity family.

On or off the battlefield, there's no other Autobot quite like Grimlock: whether he's pounding Decepticons with his prodigious strength or recounting one of his many adventures to a crowd of listeners, this boisterous 'bot remains as eloquent as he is jovial, ever ready to throw in a sophisticated quip or wry observation as he charges into battle—even though he sometimes underestimates his own strength when giving high-fives.
Since coming to Earth and adopting a dinosaur alternate mode, however, Grimlock's personal modifications to his dinosaur mode's circuitry by diverting his higher functions in order to boost his physical strength have brought out a new side of his personality. In his dinosaur mode, Grimlock is a reckless, driven warrior, more concerned with his physical prowess than any kind of tactical acumen, and eager to show off his strength in battle. Even so, whether he's a charismatic intellectual or an impulsive force of destruction, if you've got Grimlock on your side then you've earned yourself a valuable friend and a loyal ally.

In the years before the Great War, Grimlock was a frequent patron at Maccadam's, spinning tall tales for the amusement of his friends. On the night of the Iacon City-Polyhex Cube match, he told a story of an escapade in the Acid Wastes with energy leeches to a crowd of listeners, though Bumblebee was skeptical of the tale's veracity. Maccadam's Grimlock was present at Maccadam's when the Iacon City Cube team won. The Citizen Grimlock and Arcee had numerous adventures together, that included fending off a horde of wild Bantors by mimicking their call and weathering the collapse of an icy moon. Perfect Storm
When the war broke out, Grimlock joined the Autobots and soon became a high-ranking member, serving as Bumblebee's commander on a mission to rescue the captured Optimus Prime from Shadow Striker and her Seeker subordinates. While the trio were taunting an incapacitated Optimus, Bumblebee, who was watching on from above, contacted Grimlock and informed him that he had located Optimus before trying to singlehandedly rescue the Autobot commander. Some time thereafter, Grimlock supervised Bumblebee as the yellow Autobot attempted to escape from a crashing Energon tanker. Bumblebee opted to ignore his orders and steered the vessel clear of Iacon, but was intercepted by Shadow Striker; Grimlock and a group of Autobot soldiers showed up to rescue Bumblebee, and although Grimlock fired a warning shot at Shadow Striker the scout told them to let the Decepticon go. Shadowstriker
At some point in the war, Bumblebee was transporting the Allspark to a storage superstructure drop point. When Bumblebee told him that the Allspark had spoken to him, the Dinobot remarked that if the package was talking to him, he hoped that it had told Bee to deliver it quickly. During a subsequent battle to launch the Allspark off Cybertron and beyond Decepticon hands, Grimlock took part and helped hold off a group of Seekers from attacking Bumblebee. Although he was defeated, Bumblebee and Optimus Prime were able to send the Allspark though the space bridge. Allspark Eventually, Optimus came to realize his mistake in sending the Allspark away from Cybertron, and assembled the Ark to retrieve it in the hopes that it could restore Cybertron to life, Matrix of Leadership and Grimlock was one of the Autobots selected to join Prime on this mission. On the day the Ark left Cybertron, Grimlock called Bumblebee and Windblade, who were enjoying one last drink with Maccadam, and ordered them to report to Autobot headquarters. Maccadam's As Bumblebee reached the Ark, Grimlock urged him to hurry up, lest the ship take off without him. Memory

After leaving Cybertron behind, the Ark travelled through space in search of the Allspark until its dwindling energon supplies became a major concern for the Autobots aboard the vessel. During the final phase of their voyage, Teletraan-1 located an uncharted planet with a natural Energon supply, and Grimlock joined Prime and Bumblebee to investigate the readings. Partnered with Bumblebee, Grimlock found himself assaulted by the Cave monsters who inhabited the barren world, dragged into their underground lair. Grimlock was able to hold them off long enough for his fellow Autobots to track his energy signature, but during the brief battle against the aliens Optimus discovered that the creatures consumed energon and ordered a retreat, opting to respect their natural food supply. Back aboard the ship, Grimlock and the other crew members were forced to enter stasis to conserve power, leaving the ship's autonomous systems to alert them should the Ark cross paths with the Allspark... unaware that the vessel had already detected the artifact close by. The Journey

The Ark's autonomous systems pursued the Allspark to Earth, but the ship was dragged into the planet's atmosphere on a dangerous trajectory. Amidst the chaos, Grimlock was the only Cybertronian reactivated by the ship's haywire systems, and did his best to rescue Bumblebee's stasis pod after a gash on the ship's side threatened to suck several Autobots out of the ship—but proved unable to rescue Bumblebee or himself from tumbling out of the Ark and falling to Earth. King of the Dinosaurs
Grimlock spent thousands of stellar cycles searching for the Ark, even carving a map to aid him in this search, Awaken Sleeping Giants but eventually turned his attention to befriending the native dinosaurs. To better survive on prehistoric Earth, he adopted a Tyrannosaurus rex mode and modified his own circuitry by rerouting his mental processes to augment his dinosaur-mode strength and power. Grimlock even domesticated several dinosaurs and used them to help build a base for himself in a cave, turning it into a copy of the Ark's old bridge and keeping a video log of his adventures with his new friends. Among his other inventions was a crown-like tracking device that would allow him to find his base of operations. King of the Dinosaurs Eventually, however, sensors in Grimlock's new base detected the impending arrival of the dinosaur-killing asteroid. The Extinction Event Undaunted, Grimlock recorded one last message with his dinosaur friends to announce their defiance in the face of certain doom—but despite this bravado, the dinosaurs soon died out and Grimlock's power supplies ran low until he finally entered stasis lock, buried deep underground beneath layers of rock. King of the Dinosaurs
While searching through memories of Maccadam and his establishment, Bumblebee received a cryptic message from the strange bartender informing him that he needed to find the "king of the dinosaurs". Maccadam's While searching through Bumblebee's memories for information on dinosaurs, the Decepticon Shockwave trapped Bumblebee in a false memory designed to convince him he was a Decepticon. In this illusion, Grimlock served as Wheeljack's defense attorney after "Bumblebee" threw him out the Ark's airlock. Sabotage Around this time, Slipstream's group of Decepticons learned of Grimlock's location and marked it for future reference. Siloed

After escaping from Decepticon custody and stealing some of their information, Windblade and Bumblebee used this data to track down Grimlock, who had been buried beneath a human construction site. Teletraan-X explained that Grimlock had become a dinosaur, prompting Bumblebee to realize that Grimlock had been the "king of the dinosuars" they had been searching for all along. Although the pair easily brought him back online by tapping into the local power grid, Grimlock rebooted in his brutish beast mode, and ran amok through the city before Teletraan-X was able to calm him down. When Bumblebee reunited him with his homing beacon, Grimlock excitedly tracked down his old base in the hopes of reuniting with his dinosaur friends but discovered that the dinosaurs had died off long ago. Upon discovering his old video logs, Grimlock's robot mode was able to reassert himself and he welcomed his friends to his old base. King of the Dinosaurs
After showing his friends around while explaining his history on Earth, Grimlock's base detected Shockwave bringing two magnetic disruptors to Earth, intending to use them to deactivate Earth's geomagnetic field. Though Grimlock was willing to attack the ship at the South Pole, Teletraan-X revealed they needed only to stop one ship to save the Earth and headed for the North Pole aboard a commandeered cargo plane. Upon arrival, Grimlock left Bumblebee and Windblade to distract the Decepticons while he and Teletraan boarded the ship. Though the two defeated all opposition aboard, the disruptor had already gone off; undeterred, Grimlock simply smashed the ship's bridge into scrap metal, which halted the disruptor and saved the Earth. The Extinction Event

Back at his base, Grimlock revealed a map of Pangaea explained his theory that the Ark had been buried in swamplands—a theory that Teletraan-X quickly disproved using its own geological data. The little drone tracked the Ark to Mount St. Hilary, and the three Autobots set off on their plane to find the ship and reawaken their comrades. As they neared the mountain, however, the Seekers struck and downed their craft. Grimlock launched a Fastball Special with Teletraan and Bumblebee, dropping both Thundercracker Nova Storm, taking both out of the fight. Now in a race against the full might of the oncoming Decepticon fleet, the quarter ventured into the volcano's lava tubes, and an accidental encounter with some lava resulted in Grimlock using his newfound fire-breath to melt through a wall and reveal the Ark. Awaken Sleeping Giants
Unfortunately, the Decepticons caught up with them again, and Grimlock battled the Seekers and Shadow Striker until Shockwave used the remaining distuptor to ignite Mount St. Hilary with the intent of destroying the Ark. Fortunately, Teletraan-X had already been uploaded into the starship, and took control of its weapons to scare away the Decepticons and raise the shields before the volcano erupted. The threat vanquished for the moment, Grimlock happily reunited with his old crew until Teletraan detected that the Decepticon fleet had arrived over the Ark as their first target. Eruption

Over the next few years, the Great War reignited on Earth as both Autobots and Decepticons searched for the location of the Allspark while attempting to eliminate the other faction. During one battle on Earth's Moon to stop the Decepticon from turning on their Planet Smasher superweapon, Grimlock charged the device, but was prevented from destroying the superweapon thanks to the last-minute activation of a force field. Sea of Tranquility The Moon hurtled out of position, knocking over Grimlock and the other Autobots before Wheeljack's team reversed the engines and restored the Moon to its proper orbit. Bad Moon Rising
While arguing with Wheeljack over using one of the inventor's drones to butler his latest after-battle soiree, Wheeljack left his workshop unattended while helping Bumblebee search for information about a mysterious "moon cheetah". Mistaking a can of Wheeljack's latest super-fuel for energon, Grimlock succumbed to his dinosaur mode instincts, downed an entire barrel, and caused chaos throughout the ship—nearly getting sucked into a black hole—until Optimus Prime used one of Wheeljack's inventions to trap the overenergized Autobot in a force bubble until the fuel wore off. The Visitor When the Allspark created a network of GroundBridge portals, Grimlock watched as Optimus Prime entered one portal near the Ark, and later voiced his approval when Cheetor, guardian of the Allspark, returned through the GroundBridge to join the Autobots. Trials Grimlock was among the Autobots present when Cheetor explained his history on Earth, and joined his fellow Autobots during a subsequent attack on the Nemesis in order to reclaim the stolen Allspark—only for Cheetor to tell both sides that Megatron's forces didn't have the Allspark; rather, it had been stolen by Starscream and his renegade Seekers. Dark Birth

Realizing the existential threat that a rogue Starscream posed to both Autobots and Decepticons, Optimus organized a formal parley in the hopes of negotiating a truce between the Autobots and Megatron's forces. Windblade and Grimlock attended the initial talks between Optimus and Megatron, but as tensions flared Optimus ordered the pair out. As tensions relaxed between the two sides, it seemed as though an agreement might be reached, but a misunderstanding caused negotiatons to break down and Grimlock used his fire-breath to defend Wheeljack from Shockwave. Parley Grimlock was one of the bots who later turned down Cheetor's request to help with their efforts to find Starscream. Spotted Grimlock was aboard the Ark when the ship was attacked by Sky-Byte, who Grimlock remembered as his least favorite Decepticon. Infinite Vendetta
After finally tracking down Starscream, Grimlock was one of the Autobots sent to take down the Seeker, who had since absorbed the Allspark and sought to extract the sparks of every other Cybertronian on Earth. Like the other Autobots, Grimlock was paralyzed and nearly destroyed before Optimus used the Matrix of Leadership to blast the Allspark out of Starscream's body, and the Autobots made a hasty retreat with both the Allspark, their unconscious leader, and a defeated Starscream in tow. I Am The Allspark With the Allspark now firmly in Autobot hands, the crew of the Ark prepared for liftoff under the command of acting-captain Hot Rod, with Grimlock helping to coordinate a staged evacuation using remotely piloted shuttles designed to distract the crew of the Nemesis. When the Ark itself took off, Grimlock used his dinosaur mode to knock Sky-Byte out of the ship's bridge while the ship tried to outmaneuver the Nemesis to get to Earth's local space bridge portal. Although the Ark survived thanks to the intervention of Optimus and the Allspark, the space bridge was destroyed and the Autobots had no choice but to take the long way home. Escape From Earth

To keep up morale on the voyage home, Grimlock helped throw a surprise party, but, due to Starscream tampering with Wheeljack's Allspark emitter badges, Grimlock and the other partygoers went berserk and had to be subdued by Optimus. Party Down When Windblade began acting erratically, Grimlock was on the bridge of the Ark as Teletraan-X tracked her to a nearby organic world. Ghost Town
During another long stretch of the trek to Cybertron, Grimlock and Arcee went to sightsee at a nearby nebula, but returned to find that the ship's power had died and the rest of the crew had been knocked offline by a sudden electromagnetic storm. The only two 'bots left on the ship, the pair were able to ward off a swarm of oncoming Air Hammers and defend the ship from a hail of deadly comets. Both of these issues, however, had been caused by the energy wave from a nearby supernova, and as the supernova bore down on the ship it became clear that one of them would have to sacrifice themselves by jumpstarting the ship's shield generators with their own spark. Each willing to do it for the other, the argument escalated into a full battle between them until Teletraan-X,who had been ejected from the ship by the storm, uploaded himself back into the ship's systems and brought the rest of the crew—and the Ark— back online. Perfect Storm
After stumbling on a nearby space bridge, the Autobots tried to restore the gate to working condition as a shortcut to Cybertron, spurred on by a recent transmission from Chromia. The malfunctioning space bridge instead sent them to a strange interdimensional realm, where they encountered a derelict copy of their own vessel. Another copy of the Ark showed up, crewed by identical copies of their crew, and after harnessing the power of multiple parallel Allsparks the various Arks and their occupants were all able to return back to their home realities, with the main Ark materializing above their native Cybertron. The Crossroads
As the Ark entered Cybertron's atmosphere, Hot Rod asked other Autobots what they planned doing once they got home. Grimlock revealed he was planning on throwing a soiree in celebration of their victory, of which the others were invited to. Battle For Cybertron I Along with the rest of the crew, Grimlock bailed out of the ship when Optimus suspected a Decepticon trap. He took part in the fight with the amassed Decepticon forces, during which he let Arcee ride on his back until they were blasted by Alpha Strike. An undeterred Grimlock retaliated by blasting Alpha Strike with his fire breath, and later successfully defended Ratchet and an injured Autobot soldier from Soundwave. Battle For Cybertron II
As the battle began to stalemate, gigantic versions of Shockwave's drones, surrounding the Autobots. Battle For Cybertron III Despite the drones' intimidating appearance, the Autobots soon overcame their shock and leapt back into battle, their nimbler frames allowing them to fell the war beasts before Bumblebee and Cheetor returned the Allspark to the Well, revitalizing the planet and ending the war. Battle For Cybertron IV
After the Great War was won in the Autobots' favor, Grimlock was among the Transformers imprisoned by the Quintessons in the Loop, which made him relive the same five minutes of a parade over and over, during which he welcomed Bumblebee to the parade and pointed him towards Windblade. The Loop The Sleeper Grimlock was eventually freed from the simulation alongside the other Autobots thanks to the Cybertronian resistance, who got them to transform when they unleashed Air Hammers into the Loop. Scout Class

- Cyberverse Scout Class Grimlock transforms from a robot to
an awkwardly proportioned dinosaura "transformational" mode and features a "Chomp Jaw" spring gimmick.
- The CGI stock photos depicted Grimlock with silver paint details on his shoulders and lower legs that were omitted from the final product, and the maskless mouthpiece was replaced with a masked head. Grimlock was re-released under the Power of the Spark and Battle for Cybertron monikers.
Ultra Class

- Grimlock (Ultra Class, 2018)
- Action Attack: "Rocket Roar"
- Japanese Name: Burning Flame Grimlock
- Japanese Release Date: ???, 2019
- Japanese ID Number: TCV-10
- Cyberverse Ultra Class Grimlock is a roughly Voyager-sized toy that transforms from robot to impishly smiling T. rex and back. Unlike the other Ultra Class toys in his wave, he has articulation in his legs in addition to elbow joints. His "Rocket Roar" Action Attack deploys a solid yellow plastic 'fire blast' effect with red painted detailing from his dinosaur mode jaw. The effect is joined by flames from his upper back. His head is based off the battle mask and visor used in the very end of "Eruption".
- This toy was one of the items released as part of Hasbro's Transformers 35th Anniversary promotional mailer box.[1]
Ultimate Class

- Grimlock (Ultimate Class, 2019)
- Action Attack: Seismic Stomp
- Cyberverse Ultimate Class Grimlock is a roughly Leader-sized mold that converts from a fully poseable robot into a T. rex. He also features the " Seismic Stomp" Action Attack gimmick consisting of flip-out impact effect pieces on his pair of lower legs. The Action Attack also works on his T. rex form, and due to the placement of the effect pieces, the gimmick ends up looking like an energy-powered scissors attack.
- His head is once again the battle mask used in "Eruption". This Grimlock is also the most show-accurate figure of the character color-wise.

- Volcanicus (Ultimate Class, 2021)
- Accessories: Sword
- Cyberverse Ultimate Class Volcanicus is a big and simple toy that transforms from robot mode to a dragon-esque beast mode and features an Energon Armor gimmick. Grimlock is represented as the torso of the combiner, but the toy can not be disassembled into its individual components.
Tiny Turbo Changers

- Grimlock (Tiny Turbo Changer, 2019)
- Series: 1, 2, 3, 5
- Bag code: C (Series 1-3), ? (Series 5)
- Part of the first Series of Cyberverse Tiny Turbo Changers, Grimlock is a soft-plastic robot who transforms into a tiny dino. His transformation is incredibly similar to the movie-series Grimlock Tiny Turbo Changer, because why not use a good scheme?
- Grimlock was also released without changes in Series 2, 3 and 5.
Spark Armor
- Grimlock (Elite Class, 2019)
- Spark Armor: Trash Crash
- Japanese Name: Dump Dino Grimlock
- Japanese Release Date: November 9, 2019
- Japanese ID Number: TCV-22
- Cyberverse Elite Class Grimlock is a smaller, Warrior-sized, less Action Attack-laden mold that transforms from robot to a T. rex. He also comes with a "Trash Crash" Spark Armor accessory that is modeled after a garbage truck, which can form his battle armor in robot mode. Like all Elite Class toys, the accessory also comes with a unique built-in helmet. Unlike the rest of the Elite Class, the armor does not lock into place or clip onto the chest of the robot, meaning that it is prone to popping back into garbage truck mode.
- In November 2019, Grimlock was released as one of TakaraTomy Mall's Cyberverse "Christmas Set" offers along with Megatron.
Deluxe Class

- Grimlock (Deluxe Class, 2020)
- Build-a-Figure part: Maccadam's right forearm
- Accessories: Crown, Effect part
- Action Attack: "Chomp Jaw"
- Released as part of the Cyberverse Deluxe Class lineup, this Grimlock is a show-accurate mold that is more poseable than most of his previous releases. He comes with a fire-breath effect and the crown he wore in "King of the Dinosaurs". This Grimlock also holds the distinction of using his in-show head sculpt. While the instructions only show the fire-breath effect being used in dinosaur mode, it can also be held in his hand as a flame weapon. Otherwise, Grimlock would hold the odd distinction of being the only Cyberverse Deluxe class figure to have no weapon or attack effect of any kind in robot mode.
- Some copies of this figure appear to suffer from poor hip joints, causing the socket to pop off of the ball joint while swiveling the thigh. However, the actual cause tends not to be incorrect molding, but flash from the mold near the bumps that lock the socket around the ball. This can be cleaned up with very careful use of a small knife or screwdriver, resulting in a much tighter and more reliable fit.
- Grimlock's robot forearms/T. rex legs and the panels surrounding his lower legs are prone to photodegradation over time.
Roll & Combine

- Wheeljack / Grimlock (Roll & Combine, 2021)
- Roll & Combine Grimlock transforms from robot mode to Tyrannosaurus rex mode and forms the upper half of Wheelgrim when combined with Wheeljack.

- Grimlock (Happy Meal Toy, 2019)
- Released as part of the Happy Meal promotion for Cyberverse, Grimlock is a 4-inch-tall non-transforming robot figure with articulation at the neck, hips and arms. As an Action Masters-esque play feature, he includes a small dump truck (reminiscent of his Spark Armor toy) that can be separated into two parts and reattached into various pins around his body as weapons or pieces of armor.

- Grimlock (Happy Meal Toy, 2021)
- Released only in Singapore in January 2021, Grimlock is a non-transforming figure with limited articulation. The chest of the figure has a panel with a lenticular image sticker on it which changes angle when the left arm is moved. Moving the panel causes the image on his chest to change.
Nezha: Transformers
- Grimlock (Onebot set, 2020)
- Set number: ???
- Pieces: ???
- Released by Xiaomi as part of the Chinese-centric Nezha: Transformers toyline and under their MITU brand, this Grimlock is a "Lego Technic"-style building kit that can be assembled into either a very large poseable robot mode or a dino mode. Similar to how most Kre-O figures work, Grimlock must be disassembled and reassembled in order to change from one mode to the next. There is also some phone app involvement that we're still not certain what the deal is.
Notes

- As with much of the Cyberverse main cast, Grimlock uses an evergreen design inspired by his Generation 1 counterpart but with some minor stylistic tweaks. For example, the visor and faceplate are swapped with a more traditional eyes and mouth.
- Grimlock's promotional Hasbro artwork (at right) uses a different face design than the one used on the in-show Boulder model (at the top of this page). Both of these differ when compared to the toys, which feature the visor and faceplate seen in the base evergreen design. Grimlock occasionally deploys these as a sort of "battle mode" in the show, first appearing in the episode "Eruption".
- In the cartoon, Grimlock originally used a blaster resembling his Generation 1 counterpart's original handgun, but changed to a more generic variation in the final season.
- Grimlock's character bio on the Hasbro Cyberverse site lists his function as "legendary Dinobot king".
