Fan polls

Starting in 2013, nearly-annual polls have been run by Hasbro or TakaraTomy for the fandom to decide on future toy production. Thus far, 10 polls have been held. The first, Hasbro-initiated two were Fan Built Bot polls resulting in the creation of a new fan-influenced character and toy, while later polls are more "Which character do you want the most?"

2013 (1)

For the first Fan Built Bot, polls were conducted on transformers.com over the course of a week each. The first round was held between April 18th and May 5th, and included the following questions:<ref>http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-fan-built-bot-poll/27089/</ref>

The result, Windblade, was revealed first in art form at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, with her toy subsequently revealed at Toy Fair 2014. Windblade obtained a toy in the 10th wave of Deluxe Class Generations: Thrilling 30 toys; she also starred in a 4-issue miniseries from IDW Publishing, which was later revived as an ongoing series.

Due to the character's popularity, different incarnations of Windblade were also featured in the Transformers: Robots in Disguise, and the Transformers: Cyberverse cartoons.

2013 (2)

To commemorate the Tranformers 30th anniversary, TakaraTomy held a poll from June 18th <ref>TF 2013 (2) Fan Poll Source 1</ref> to September 8th <ref>TF 2013 (2) Fan Poll Source 2</ref> to determine which Autobot or Maximal leader would get a new toy in the prestigious Masterpiece toyline.

2015 (1)

The second set of polls was announced on January 15, 2015, this time to create a whole new Combiner. The polling was done via the Transformers mobile app. The first set of polls began on January 25. Each limb was voted on individually. This poll infamously revealed the alternate modes for what would become Combiner Wars Voyager Class Protectobot Hot Spot and Legends Class Protectobot Groove before those figures would be officially unveiled at Toy Fair 2015.

Round 2 began on February 11 and including picking more specific modes for the limbs, two of which had been selected as aerial vehicles, and two as cars.

A round also took place via the Toys"R"Us Twitter between February 17 and 28 to select which power the Combiner would have.

Victorion, the resulting female Combiner, received a toy, then made her fictional debut in IDW Publishing's Combiner Hunters one-shot comic before joining the main cast of The Transformers vol. 2 ongoing.

2017

The next set of fan polls was announced on December 1, 2016 for Power of the Primes, and it regarded the next Matrix of Leadership bearer,<ref>https://www.allspark.com/2016/12/power-of-the-primes-fan-vote-announced/</ref> which would reflect across the toyline and accompanying fiction.

On February 19, Hasbro announced that Optimus Primal ultimately placed first,<ref>https://www.allspark.com/2017/02/power-of-the-primes-optimus-primal-new-prime/</ref> which led to him receiving a new toy in mid-2018 and a prominent role in the Power of the Primes web series.

2018 (1)

The next fan poll was for a new rivalry that would earn a pair of new toys in the first chapter of the War for Cybertron Trilogy.

Hasbro Pulse put out a free poll which anybody who signed up could participate in. As stated by Hasbro Pulse, "For the first time fans can vote on a pair of characters who will become part of the Generations lineup as Deluxe Class figures."

On February 27, 2018, Hasbro announced that Mirage vs Impactor had won,<ref>https://www.allspark.com/2018/02/war-for-cybertron-fan-poll-winner-announced/</ref> leading to the duo receiving new toys in the Siege toyline in 2019, both as regular retail figures and as exclusive multi-pack new-head retools.

Oddly, despite losing the fan poll, Spinister still received a toy in Siege, and Wheeljack and Tracks got new Earth-mode figures in Earthrise and Kingdom, respectively.

2018 (2)

The next poll was announced via Hasbro Pulse and Hasbro's social media accounts on December 10, 2018 to decide a future toy out of two pairs for release in the Vintage G1 toyline in Spring of 2020.<ref>https://www.allspark.com/2018/12/g1-reissue-vote-announced/</ref><ref>https://www.allspark.com/2018/12/g1-reissue-poll-open-on-instagram/</ref>

2019 (1)

On May 17, 2019, the Transformers Facebook page held a poll to determine another 2020 release in the Vintage G1 line.<ref>Hasbro Launches 2020 G1 Reissue Poll!</ref>

Blaster Skywarp

The poll was only open for 24 hours, and the following day it was announced that Blaster had won, receiving 56% of the vote.<ref>Blaster Wins The Walmart Exclusive G1 Reissue 2020 Fan Vote</ref>

2019 (2)

Starting June 13, 2019, the same Facebook page held a poll to decide which of four Decepticons would appear in the second chapter of the War for Cybertron Trilogy.<ref>2020 WFC Trilogy poll</ref>

Gnaw Runamok [sic] Needlenose Shrapnel

The voting was open for 48 hours,<ref>The four bots are #GNAW, #RUNAMUCK, #NEEDLENOSE & #SHRAPNEL</ref> and on July 18 a Facebook announcement fixed Runamuck's name proclaimed Runamuck the winner.<ref>The fans have spoken and #RUNAMUCK will become a Fall 2020 War for Cybertron figure!</ref> Perhaps unsurprisingly, Earthrise Runabout and Studio Series Gnaw soon followed.

• Many times, options that did not win their respective poll have received acknowledgement later down the road:
  • After 2013's first poll, the name "Centuritron" was used for a new character and Generations toy, while "Eclipse" and "Charon" were later used for new Generations toys of classic characters.
  • After 2013's second poll, Beast Convoy and Lio Convoy<ref>Star Saber wins the Takara-Tomy Masterpiece Fan’s Choice Poll at TFW2005</ref> later received their Masterpiece toys in 2016 and 2020, respectively.
  • After 2015's first poll, the name "Slammoth" was later used for the Beast Wars: Uprising incarnation of Big Convoy while "Quakebreak" was used for the post-Shroud version of Breakaway.
  • After 2015's second poll, Omega Supreme and Scorponok received their Generations Titan Class figures later on in Siege and Earthrise, respectively.
  • After 2017's poll, Ultra Magnus and Shockwave received their "Evolution"-style Leader Class toys later on in Siege, with the former receiving a redeco and retool for Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy and Kingdom, respectively.
  • After 2018's first poll, Spinister received their War for Cybertron Trilogy toy in Siege anyway.<ref>On June 26, 2019, Hasbro announced they were going to make Spinister @ Screenrant.com</ref> Wheeljack received their toy later on in Earthrise and a redeco for Netflix War for Cybertron Trilogy. Tracks later received their toy in Kingdom.
  • After both of 2018's polls, Skywarp and Needlenose were eligible again in the 2019 Vintage G1 and War for Cybertron Trilogy polls, respectively, though both once again lost.
  • After 2019's second poll, Gnaw received their War for Cybertron Trilogy-style toy later on in Studio Series.
