The Great War between the Autobots and Decepticons consumed the city, in common with the rest of Cybertron over the millions of years of the conflict. Vast numbers of dead bodies seem to have been left untended in the city, and the city itself was more or less a ruin. However, two things ensured the location's significance:
The first was that the city was positioned directly above a massive fusion reactor and propulsion engines that were the first stage of Megatron's plan to rework Cybertron into a travelling battlestation and thus conquer the universe. The reactor's engines, if ever activated, would have destroyed Kalis.
The second was that the Autobot resistance on Cybertron, led by Emirate Xaaron, chose Kalis as the site for Autobase in the year 1987, after the failure of Operation: Volcano and the death of Impactor.
These two aspects intertwined when the rogue Autobot scientist Flame attempted to rebuild and restart the reactor and the engines, using reanimated robot corpses as his guards. Only the combined efforts of the Wreckers, Ultra Magnus, and the undead Impactor prevented the catastrophe. City of Fear! Legion of the Lost! Meltdown!
Kalis bordered the Decepticon region of Tyrest and also contained a large-scale radio transmitter called the Baird Beaming Transmitter.

The Functionist Universe
[edit]In the Functionist Universe, Kalis was designated one of the "five sacred cities" by the Functionist Council and renamed Adaptica in honor of the god Adaptus, a giant statue of whom rose above the city. Growing disillusioned with the Council, Nine-of-Twelve left them and took up residence in Adaptica, which he turned into a safe haven for Cybertronians targeted for "recalling" by the Council. After ending up in this universe, a group of former Lost Light crew members were brought to Adaptica by the Anti-Vocationist League, who were headquartered out of the city and had nicknamed it "Cyberutopia". After Team Rodimus had found themselves in this reality and gotten caught up, Luna 2 suddenly reappeared over the city. A World Misplaced
Understanding that he'd been duped, Nine-of-Twelve explained that the moon was now an automated harvester unit that turned its powerful tractor beams on Adaptica. As Rodimus led a group to rescue the native Rung and prevent the Council from controlling Vector Sigma, Megatron coordinated a simultaneous evacuation and defence of Adaptica. Bad Moon Rising
As Megatron's defence lost ground, Rodimus's group had seized the Cog and used it to return to Adaptica with the native Rung intending to use it as a battering ram against Luna 2 to save the city, Modes of Production only for Terminus to shoot the vessel down in his attempt to save Megatron. With no other options, Rung tampered with the mass displacement generator that the Council installed within him to grow to giant size and physically attack the moon only to perish in the attempt. Instead, salvation came for Adaptica when Team Rodimus managed to teleport Luna 2 inside Necroworld, halting its attack. Damaged as it was, Adaptica was abandoned by the AVL, now led by Megatron, who began an underground movement. This Machine Kills Fascists

Three hundred years later, conditions on Cybertron had deteriorated to the point where Kalis was regularly swept by acid rainstorms. Burning Bridges During the Grand Uprising, Kalis was one of the cities that was conquered by the Tripredacus Alliance, becoming part of the Independent Predacus States. [edit]The city of Kalis was notable for its subsurface fusion reactor, which was responsible for powering the sector grid that included the city of Iacon. Rumors of possible Energon reserves persisted into the dying days of the war for Cybertron, so the Autobot Sideswipe was deployed to investigate. Signs of sabotage by the Decepticon Apeface had also been detected at that location. Siege Teletraan-1 Data Files

Balancing Act, Part 3 Vector Prime had to reactivate the autoguns while Safeguard and Sentinel Maximus fought Scorponok. An unseen force successfully reactivated the autoguns, but then Sentinel Maximus received an emergency transmission from Downshift. The attack on Reserves Control was a distraction so that Ramjet and Nemesis Prime could enter the Spark Core Access Tunnels with the intention of killing Primus and resurrecting Unicron. [edit]Bordering Iacon, Kalis was the site of the first Autobot victory in the war, which was all the more a relief, as the city's subsurface fusion reactor would power the city throughout the Decepticon siege. This was due in part to the Seekers' absence and the defeat of Bruticus Maximus by Optimus Prime, Jazz, and Sideswipe. Autobots continued to patrol the area throughout the war, but the Decepticons were able to use a tunnel to access Teletraan-1. Exodus
