Black Jaguar is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
No, no. It's that OTHER guy who married Storm.

One of Alligatron's most fearsome warriors, Black Jaguar (ブラックジャガー Burakkujagā) is a martial arts master who can go toe-to-toe with even the venerable Platinum Tiger... and boy, does he want to. An excellent tactician and weaponsmith, he's a single-minded sort who runs incredibly hot when focused on a goal, and often, that goal is beating Platinum. This burning, brutal focus is reflected in his MVP Weapon, the Hyper Beam (ハイパービーム Haipā Bīmu), which can fire a heat beam that burns at one million degrees.

Following the Great War, he returned to his home country of Nupal to rule as its King. This hasn't mellowed his ambitions much, but he does take setbacks in stride now. His subordinate Emperor Crowmax serves as his advisor, and the crafty corvid's business acumen helps Jaguar run the country smoothly.

Transformers: Beastformers

  • Burstsun Special Set (Multi-pack, 1987)
  • ID number: 57
  • Accessories: Spear
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Black Jaguar is an anthopomorphic... well, black jaguar, in blue robotic armor. The rubsign on his chest reveals one of three symbols; Fire, Water or Wood.
During this line, Black Panther was only available in the Burstsun Special Set (バーストサンスペシャルセット Bāsutosan Supesharu Setto) multipack. This blindpacked set contains 10 figures out of a potential 14. Thankfully, these were not randomly-packed, and came in two distinct lineups.
The first version has White Leo with an exclusive "Burstsun" Battle Emblem, Black Jaguar, Būpink, Dog Hunter, Dream Eater, Muskhorn, Pangol, Slo, White Cow, and Udan.
The second version has Ghost Alligatron, Black Jaguar, Būpink, Crowmax, Earthhog, Mingo Kid, Pangol, Slo, White Cow, and Udan.

Beastformers

  • Black Jaguar (Beastformer, 1988)
  • ID number: 57
  • Accessories: "Hyper Beam" MVP Weapon
Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Black Jaguar was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Hyper Beam". He was sold in the second assortment of single figures, in an individual box with a name sticker on the front.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

  • Black Jaguar's 1987 poster-art bizarrely gives him a samurai-esque helmet, which is certainly a unique error among the many, many errors in this batch of character art. His 1988 RPG-era art corrects this mistake, giving him an unadorned head. It also repositions his grip on his spear to allow the art to better fill out the space on the card.
  • His 1988 bio card gives him the nickname Jaggy (ジャギー Jagī).
