The name or term "Blurr" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Blurr (disambiguation).
Blurr is one or several Autobots from the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
So fast he's everyone at once.

Blurr is either a high-strung Autobot scout, a cranky Velocitronian race coach, Armada Blurr, or one of several Cybertron-born Autobot civilians in hiding on Earth, depending on who one asks.

Confused yet?

Cybertron Blurr's identity is pretty damn muddled. See "Who is Blurr?" below.

Fiction

Animated continuity

Blurr was seen a few times, and only in vehicle mode, riding the raceways on Velocitron, when the planets began to self-destruct due to the black hole.

I want to tell you about the Transformers!

Blurr, a veteran racing champion from Velocitron, had turned into an instructor for younger 'bots in his later years. He heard about the threat of the Unicron Singularity, and made contact with the Autobots to join their search for the Cyber Planet Keys. This was shortly after the discovery of Jungle Planet. He was assigned to the scout ship Spanner by Ultra Magnus, working under the captain Longrack alongside Armorhide and Checkpoint. Their mission began in Delta Draconis, checking out spatial anomalies. They found a distant world, covering in Cybertronian corpses after what appeared to be an endless series of conflicts.

Longrack sent Blurr out on recon patrol, and the Velocitronian quickly came under heavy fire from one of the few surviving residents. Switching to robot mode, he summon his Cyber Key Power(!!!!!) to dramatically boost his foot speed. Blurr ran rings around the attacking helicopter, and managed to trap it in a whirlwind until a small shrapnel charge upset his footing, sending him flying and ultimately into stasis lock.

By the time Blurr revived, Longrack had made peace with their Combatron attacker, Whirl. Unfortunately, they were back out into battle before he had much time to rest, as a contingent of Decepticons had also found this "Apocalypse Planet", and its vault filled with doomsday arsenals. As Whirl and the Spanner's crew confronted the Decepticons, they had to fight their way through pilfered Mini-Cons, Decepticlones, and nucleon shock gauntlets, among other surprises. Blurr got into a race with the Decepticon driver known as Runamuck, but his dwindling power levels finally failed completely, and the racing champion went down.

The Autobots were taken prisoner but, luckily, the Decepticon squad leader Brushguard had studied under Megatron in the art of endless gloating, and he held then alive and captive long enough to rant about his greater glory. Armorhide, the last Autobot free, managed to return to the Spanner and pilot it straight into the Decepticon-held bunker. Blurr and the others broke free and stole Brushguard's ship, the Upstart, leaving the Decepticons behind on the Apocalypse Planet and continuing on for their rendez-vous with Ultra Magnus and the Iron Hope. Force of Habit

Following the war with Galvatron, Blurr joined Override on board the Star Arrow. During a space mission when they were transporting a valuable Force Chip, the Star Arrow was shot down above the planet Sandokan. While searching for the means of repairing their ship, Blurr and the Autobots were attacked by Synthos, the deranged creature who had brought their ship down. They managed to retreat to a cave where they set up camp to repair their injuries and signal for rescue. Unfortunately, things were never that simple. The Decepticon mercenary known as Astrotrain arrived on Synthos, searching for their Force Chip and the Dark Heart that powered Synthos. Blurr was ambushed outside the cave by Astrotrain, and knocked off-line during the battle. Astrotrain's Mini-Con partners managed to steal the Force Chip from the Autobots, and fled the scene.

The Autobots raced after Astrotrain, and caught up with the Decepticon during a skirmish between him and Synthos. Astrotrain attempted to overpower the creature by using the Force Chip, but was fighting a losing battle. Synthos got possession of the Force Chip and nearly became unstoppable as he tried to add its power to his own Dark Heart. Luckily, Excellion and Blurr managed to fend off the creature and reclaim the Force Chip before any of their enemies could. In an ironic twist, the Autobots were then saved by the arrival of the space pirate Cannonball, Astrotrain's employer. As the Decepticons occupied themselves with the threat of Synthos, Blurr and the Autobots snuck aboard Cannonball's shuttle and assumed control of the vessel. With the Force Chip safely tucked away, they began their journey back to Cybertron. The Dark Heart of Sandokan

He'd be a lot faster if his legs moved. Having his entire alt-mode on his back doesn't help either.
  • Blurr vs Buzzsaw (Multi-pack, 2005)
    • Japanese ID number: GS-01
    • Accessories: 2 launchers, 2 missiles, Speed Planet Key
A retool of Armada Blurr, Cybertron Blurr transforms into a sleek Cybertronic race car. As he comes with no Mini-Con, inserting his Cyber Planet Key into the space under Blurr's spoiler causes the rear side panels of Blurr's car mode to flip down into a "flight mode". This mode also makes his twin spring-loaded missile launchers available, which become hand-held weapons in robot mode. These missile launchers have been similarly retooled to remove the Powerlinx gimmick, replaced with traditional firing tabs. Blurr also features a new head, based heavily upon Generation 1 Blurr. In Japan, he was only available in a "vs set" with Buzzsaw.
This mold was later retooled to make the BotCon 2008-exclusive Shattered Glass Blurr.

  • Blurr (Deluxe, 2005)
    • Accessories: 2 launchers, 2 missiles, Speed Planet Key
For his Hasbro release, Blurr was available as an individual Deluxe. He is unchanged from the Japanese releases.

Who is Blurr?

In the Japanese Galaxy Force line, Blurr is described as being a high-strung, super-fast scout from Cybertron, effectively an alternate-universe incarnation of Generation 1 Blurr. He was sent as an advance scout to the Speed Planet. This, of course, was never part of the show's events; in fact, this depiction of Blurr only appeared on his Japanese bio card and nowhere else.

But in the Hasbro Cybertron line, Blurr has two separate profiles, both of which also contradict his appearance on the show. The first one [1] was published on his packaging and appears on his Hasbro product page. It can easily be interpreted as calling him a native Velocitronian, describing him as a retired race champion and extremely demanding, seemingly short-tempered coach (with a spark of gold, of course) for new racers.

The second bio [2], which appeared online after the toy had been released stateside, explicitly characterized him as the character from Armada, staying on Cybertron during the Unicron Singularity crisis to keep the Decepticons remaining there from making things even worse.

Finally, the later text story "The Dark Heart of Sandokan" follows the lead of the Hasbro packaging bio, explicitly stating that Blurr is an elder Velocitronian, giving him a somewhat Lou-Gosset-Jr.-y temperament with his newest student, Excellion.

All this is on top of the use of Blurr's vehicle mode model (never the robot mode!) in various colors —including the toy's— as generic Transformers from both Cybertron and Velocitron, and never as a named character. Amusingly enough, his vs-pack-mate Buzzsaw appears as a native, unnamed (and neutral) Velocitronian as well.

As such... exactly who the Cybertron Blurr toy represents is pretty damn up in the air. Take your pick, you have a lot of canon choices.

Trivia

  • The gang-molded Mini-Con partner for Blurr's mold was omitted from both the Takara and Hasbro releases of the toy. In Japan, it saw release in the fourth Micron Booster assortment as Wrench. Hasbro, however, never released any version of the Mini-Con whatsoever.
