MechTech is a subsection of the Transformers: Dark of the Moon toyline.

It includes the Deluxe, Voyager, Leader and Ultimate class, and some of the Human Alliance toys. Its main gimmick revolves around huge transformable weapons that attach to both vehicle and robot mode and other MechTech weapons via 5mm posts. Unlike previous attachable weapons, the MechTech system often utilizes retractable pegs to fill in the holes when not in use.

The working name for this line was "CyberTech" (with the Cyberverse line being dubbed Megaverse), and it could be seen on receipts for toys purchased at retailers, in the name of some exclusive products on retailer web sites, and on the shipping cases for the products themselves. The reason for the change is unknown.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon - The Game

MechTech is revealed to be highly advanced Cybertronian technology created for use by Humans during the alliance between the Autobots and NEST. A large cache of such weaponry was destroyed by Soundwave who had infiltrated a former Sector Seven facility used by NEST that was located inside a volcano that served as a testing lab for Wheeljack. Remaining samples of MechTech were later placed in transit to Human armies situated in the Middle East. Learning of this, Megatron dispatched Starscream to intercept the shipment as he could not allow the Humans to be armed with such technology. Starscream in turn managed to intercept Stratosphere where he destroyed the Autobot and the MechTech located within him though had taken a sample back to Megatron's headquarters with the intention of creating a countermeasure. However, an angered Megatron destroyed the sample and attacked Starscream for this act as he knew the MechTech had a tracking beacon which allowed a strike force of Autobots to assault the Decepticon lair. Notes

  • According to Josh Nizzi's designs, the MechTech gear was supposed to appear on film: Sentinel Prime's "cosmic rust gun" was apparently another form for his shield (and no, it's not the same blaster as the Leader toy). <ref>Josh Nizzi's Dark of the Moon concept art</ref>
