Rich was on a field trip to Dinobot Island with Randall and Ed, and ended up excavating at the southern end of the island with another student, Harcourt, under the supervision of "Dim Tim". His team discovered an oversized jukebox underneath the sand, and Rich and his partner hurried to extract it before Randall and Ed could finish digging out the strange metal dinosaur they'd found. Unknown to any of them, the jukebox was a Decepticon named Raze, and once he had been dug up and reactivated, he attacked the students. Paddles
