The Functionaries are the enforcers of the Functionist Council's laws.

A moderate Functionary gave Whirl permission to quit the Aerial Corps and become a watchmaker. When the Council found out, they dispatched the Heavies to destroy Whirl's workshop. Stet

The Functionist Universe

In an alternate timeline, the Functionist Council were the sole rulers of Cybertron. Upon his return to the planet after two million years of service in the Primal Vanguard, Minimus Ambus was questioned by a Functionary who demanded to see his alt mode and who forcibly examined his transformation cog. This inspection was interrupted by a Lunabot trying to escape the latest mass recall and so the Functionary joined one of his colleagues in gunning down the rogue Transformer, rendering him obsolescent the old-fashioned way.

Later, Ambus and Rewind watched a broadcast of Functionaries brutally suppressing a protest and killing a female protester who tore out her own transformation cog. The Custom-Made Now

When the dimensionaly displaced Team Rodimus arrived on Functionst Universe Cybertron, they were almost immediately greeted by a group of Functionaries who were accompanyed by Twelve-of-Twelve as they transported a group of Anti-Vocationist prisoners to The Cog. Some Other Cybertron Having assumed Rodimus' crew were in league with the Anti-Vocationists, Twelve-of-Twelve had the Functionaries place them under arrest. Assuming it was alive, one of the Functionaries demanded that the teleporter that brought them there transform but blew it away without a second thought when Ratchet informed him it was just a machine. As they paraded the prisoners through a crowd, two of the Functionaries were taken out by a grenade exploding at their feet, Clicker and his group of Anti-Vocationists having arrived to free their captive comrades. The grenade proved to be a lucky shot, as the Anti-Vocationists were no match for the Functionaries one-on-one. However, once Megatron freed himself and his allies, the tides of battle began to turn against the Functionaries, those among them who weren't killed making their retreat after Twelve-of-Twelve teleported away from the battle. Slag the police!

Several Functionaries helped supervise the deployment of Rung's drill form to display to the public on the "Day of Revelation." A World Misplaced Several Functionaries attempted to stop the Autobots from capturing a matter transporter that led to Vector Sigma; as it turned out, the cop-bots weren't able to put up much of a fight against a crew of hardened warriors, and the Functionary platoon assigned to guard the transporter quickly fell to their combined onslaught. Bad Moon Rising Another fifty guards were assigned to guard the Cog; when Rodimus' team decided to hijack the floating building, the Functionary detachment aboard didn't fare much better than their compatriots. Modes of Production

When the Council began their purge against alien lifeforms, the Functionaries boarded a fleet of battle-ready starships to act as forward scouts. When the Grand Architect's God Gun opened a portal to the next universe over, the Functionist ships surged through, Farsickness emerging ahead of their masters. When the Architect's fleets attacked, the Functionaries responded in kind, their ships proving superior to the Infinites, the Phantom Fleet, and the warships of the Black Block Consortia, ruthlessly totalling the enemy crafts. The Unrembering After Team Rodimus had forced the Council's avatar of Primus back to planet mode, they landed at each of the twelve hot spots to try and destroy the Functionists. The Functionaries docked their crafts to engage their foes, but failed to save their masters in spite of their numerical advantage. A Spark Among Embers

  • The Functionaries are designed after the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Judge (2000 AD)|{{#if:Judges|Judges|Judge (2000 AD)}}]] from long-running British sci-fi comic [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}2000 AD (comics)|{{#if:2000 AD|2000 AD|2000 AD (comics)}}]].
  • They wear their own variant of the Functionist Council insignia.
  • A pair of police 'bots sporting Functionary body-types appear in the 2017 Transformers annual; as this storyline takes place in the "main" timeline—following the dissolution of the Functionist Council—this is probably an error and not an actual appearance.
