Long ago, Croaton departed Cybertron carrying with him a crew to found a colony. Croaton eventually touched down on a red planet near the Sharkticon homeworld, where he founded a thriving settlement. One day, the planet came under attack from alien invaders who abducted the colonists and subjected Croaton to an orbital bombardment that left him on the brink of death.
After untold years, Croaton detected the Ark passing through his solar system, carrying the life giving AllSpark aboard. Making psychic contact with the cityspeaker Windblade, Croaton had her bring the artifact to his spark chamber, even as his autonomic systems held off her friends. When the AllSpark revitalized him, Croaton told his story to the Autobots through Windblade before he transformed to robot mode to try and find his missing colonists. After returning the Autobots their shuttle, Croaton blasted off, unknowingly taking on the escaped Starscream as a passenger. Ghost Town
Croaton's flight path took him dangerously near a star, much to the distress of his passenger. After passing it, Croaton stumbled into a Quintesson cruiser being taken captive by its tractor beams. The End Of The Universe I The Quintessons subsequently upgraded Croaton as well as using their technology to subjugate his free will, turning him into an enforcer.
After Windblade had awoken Iaconus, she directed the War Titan to Starscream, now transformed into a Quintesson Judge, before the Scientist summoned Croaton to dispatch Iaconus. Despite Croaton's upgrades, Iaconus' fighting experience proved the deciding factor in the battle. Before the War Titan could free his fellow however, Starscream used a fragment of unspace to kill him. The End Of The Universe III
Now freed from his fight with his counterpart, the still-enslaved Croaton began attacking the Autobot and Decepticon forces. In desperation, Windblade tried to use her cityspeaker powers to reach Croaton's mind. With tremendous effort, she managed to severe the Quintessons' control over the Titan, at the cost of scattering her own mind. Noticing what had been done, Croaton departed the battlefield, much to Judge Starscream's aggravation. The End Of The Universe IV
After the Quintessons had been driven off Cybertron, and a tentative truce had been reached between Autobots and Decepticons, Croaton's city form became the capital of the Decepticon's side of the planet. Enemy Line
Trivia
- Croaton's name is likely derived from Croatoan Island, the Croatan tribe of Native Americans, or most probably, the word "Croatoan" that was found carved in a tree at the Lost Colony (in?)famous for the "unexplained" disappearance of its citizens.
- Croaton's design strongly resembles that of Fortress Maximus.
