Growl (G1)

Growl is a Decepticon Micromaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

In challenging a Kzin, a simple scream of rage is sufficient. You scream and you leap.

Growl is a sadistic bully who finds that his desire to maim and kill suits him perfectly for the Military Patrol. He occasionally makes noises about replacing Bombshock as team leader, but that's mostly just because everyone else says that, and he doesn't want to look weak. He'll actually go on happily following orders forever, so long as they involve killing things.

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Growl was one of the Micromasters who sided with the Decepticons after the Meltdown Riots. He initially fought back against Venom and his cannibalistc highwaymen when they invaded Little Iacon, but once the Decepticons offered a free pass for any 'Con-aligned Micros, he took it. Recipe for Hate Growl was seen working with Skystalker after the Interstellar Assault Commander temporarily deactivated Shockwave and overthrew his command. The Transformers Growl transforms into a brown FMC XR311 combat support vehicle. Unusually for a Micromaster figure, he has a separate gun that can be attached to the roof of this vehicle mode or to either of his arms in robot mode. He was only available in the Military Patrol four-pack with his teammates Bombshock, Dropshot, and Tracer.

This toy was released in the Japanese Return of Convoy line without changes. Like the Hasbro toy, he was only available in a complete set with his teammates, as well as Micro Trailer #3. Like all Return of Convoy characters, he was marketed as an Autobot instead of a Decepticon.

Part of the first wave of Earthrise Micromaster two-packs, Growl transforms from robot into a vehicle based on his original G1 toy. He reuses both the upper torso and 5 mm post of Flak and the thighs of Top Shot. He is packaged with his partner Bombshock as the Military Patrol, and the two of them can be combined together to create a cannon type weapon that larger figures can wield.

In robot mode, Growl has an extensive amount of vehicle mode kibble hanging off his back and no real heelspurs, making the figure extremely prone to tipping over backwards. Like his original G1 figure, Growl's cannon is a separate accessory that can attach to his roof in vehicle mode or to either of his arms in robot mode. Said cannon also forms the barrel of his combined weapon mode with Bombshock.
