In 1888, Tobias Muldoon came to Edison to ask about a way to generate one million watts of electricity in an instant, but was kicked out for requesting something so impossible. Having overheard them, Tesla was intrigued and privately offered Muldoon his assistance. They traveled to Canada on a train which Tesla was surprised to learn needed neither crew nor water to run. He was even more surprised when it turned out to be three intelligent transforming robots from space. Said Autobots took Tesla and Muldoon to the Mare Rurek Glacier, where they revealed that they needed the electricity to reactivate their dormant leader, Optimus Prime. Infestation 2: The Transformers #1

Tesla's plan was to build a tower to draw electricity from the ionosphere, though the poor conditions forced him to improvise with a balloon instead. The ground wire needed to be electrified for it to work, so the Autobots gave up their personal energy supplies one by one, leaving Tesla and Muldoon alone and freezing to death. Thankfully Tesla's invention worked and Optimus Prime was awakened in time to save them and travel to Port Cenotaph, where he defeated an Elder God. After bearing witness the battle and saying goodbye to the Autobots, Tesla felt the adventure had inspired him to invent even greater things. Infestation 2: The Transformers #2

"Strange Visitors" establishes that events identical to those of Hearts of Steel and Infestation 2 occur in the 2005 IDW continuity; however, they happened to Maximal explorers brainwashed by Shockwave into believing they were the Autobots and Decepticons of the Great War. {{#if:|'s identity was taken by {{#if:|the Maximal named }}{{#if:|[[|a Maximal]]}}.}}
