Wings Universe

Powerflash began his military career as an infantry mech in the Autobot Guard. He served under Big Bang in the Advanced Observation Unit alongside Sentinel Major, Halonix Maximus, and Ranger. After the Battle of Beta 9, the AOU were incorporated into Magnum's experimental Autobot Elite Guard. Powerflash and his comrades were each given command positions in the Elite Guard, either overseeing field teams or as part of the upper brass. Sentinel Major's Wings of Honor profile

Powerflash was placed in charge of the 45th division, the Stealth Team. His detachment included Rumbler, a mechanic, his brother Sprocket, a pilot, and Tap-Out, a covert specialist. Instead of Elite Guard headquarters, they maintained a base of operations at a hangar in Detrona, presumably to assist them in keeping their missions covert. During a raid on the Decepticon fortress of Gygax, they caused setbacks in several of Deathsaurus's projects, including his research into combination technology. Bruticus's Wings of Honor profile

On one of his first missions, Sprocket wound up getting his processor scrambled. Powerflash and the rest of the Stealth Team wound up breaking him out of an Iacon mental institution so that he could rejoin them on their missions. Sprocket's Wings of Honor profile

Powerflash enjoyed a friendly relationship with his squad, despite being a stickler for timing and protocol. Their next mission came after Delta Seeker of the Recon Team overheard Take-Off boasting in a tavern about his boss, the Warlord Gutcruncher, needing a ship to pursue an asteroid of infinite power. Powerflash orchestrated an undercover mission to make contact with Gutcruncher's crew and prevent them from succeeding. He was more than willing to bend a few rules to do it, too, as he forged Sentinel Major's authorization for the credits to buy a used ship and requested Rumbler get ahold of some electronic paint, which had been banned by the High Council.

After painting up himself and Tap-Out, Powerflash arranged to deal with the Decepticons as "Bad Boy", with his trusty associate Dealbreaker. They hornswoggled the incompetent Take-Off into accepting their ship, the Darklon, without any thorough checking. After Gutcruncher, Take-Off, and their two comrades were on board, "Bad Boy" got the drop on Gutcruncher and slapped some stasis cuffs on his wrists to incapacitate him. Taking down the remaining three required some gunplay, but after Rumbler and Sprocket were released from their hiding spot in the cargo bay, the full Decepticon squad landed in the detention bay.

Powerflash and the Stealth Team continued on to the asteroid to secure it before any more Decepticons got the bright idea to go after its power source. Gutcruncher's crew managed to escape and capture the Stealth Team, however, before continuing on to harvest the energy source. Locating a magnificent set of glowing crystals, Gutcruncher had Powerflash and the others brought before them to witness his triumph. A power surge suddenly raced through the crystals, blasting all Autobots and Decepticons present with amber energy. Powerflash and the others quickly learned they had gained super-mechanical strength and power, but at the loss of their transforming ability. The Stealth Team managed to retake the Darklon and fled the asteroid before the volatile crystals caused any more damage.

The team reported for medical clearance to Rest-Q and Crosscut, and were informed that the radiation from the crystal was lingering in their systems, but they should regain their trans-modes if and when the radiation subsided. With another Decepticon Warlord in custody, the Elite Guard chalked up another win on their record. A Team Effort

When the Special Ops Team went rogue and became Deathsaurus's Combaticons, Powerflash and the Stealth Team were present to defend Elite Guard headquarters from the Decepticon attack. The Coming Storm: Part 5 Powerflash apparently fell with the rest of the defenders under Bruticus's mighty onslaught. The Coming Storm: Part 6

Pursuing Cyclonus and Tailgate from the scene, they opened fire when Cyclonus reached for his Great Sword, taking him down and causing Tailgate to flare up with panic. The Lopsided Triangle Although he didn't realize it at the time, Powerflash temporarily became an outlier as a result of his exposure to Tailgate's flare. He complained of sudden burnout to Velocity when his system finally crashed from the high. At Close of Day

When Getaway made his move, Powerflash duly sided with him in helping exile Megatron, Rodimus and everyone who'd been against a mutiny. How Bright Their Frail Deeds Three weeks later, Powerflash's memories were remotely altered by Sunder to make him believe Team Rodimus left of their own free will, that Getaway was awesome and, as a member of ship's security, that any newcomers were undercover Decepticons and they were all intently loyal to Getaway. Filling in the Blanks In this altered status quo, it was believed that the loyalty Powerflash and his team presented to the escapologist was what had prevented Hound from assuming command.

When the Protectobots and Mirage returned to the Lost Light after months away, Powerflash greeted them at gunpoint and Getaway had to smooth the cracks over; even as Getaway tried to con the returnees, Powerflash and his posse watched First Aid with visible hostility. When Riptide informed the returnees of the truth, Powerflash was there to help his boss capture all involved, taking a blow from Riptide in the process. Full Circle Powerflash fought against the Protectobots again when they attempted to flee with Thunderclash. Journey's End

His loyalty (even forced as it was) wasn't rewarded by Getaway. Once they arrived at Cyberutopia and discovered it was a sham, Getaway sold his crew out to the Grand Architect in order to save his own skin. Powerflash and the others were subjected to a Sparkeater virus by Scorponok and turned on Rodimus's crew when they arrived at Cyberutopia as well. A Dance Before Dying First Aid was able to apply concussive medicine to the problem, transmitting a kinetic program code to the afflicted Sparkeaters and restoring them to their true forms. Lūstrāre

Powerflash captured Toxitron in the wake of a devastating battle, but as he was bringing the prisoner before his superior officer, Spin-Out, his hand melted because of Toxitron's acidic secretions. He only had time to scream in pain before Toxitron first melted his stasis cuffs, then Powerflash's head. The Toxic Transformer

FLASH!!!! AHHHH-AHHHH!!!!
  • Powerflash with Road Rocket (Action Master, 1991)
Released in the seventh year of the European-market Transformers toyline (the first year following the end of the US line), Action Master Powerflash is a non-transforming action figure with a swivel neck, shoulders and knees, and steel-ball-jointed hips. His body design has details of a fighter-jet mode, though what model is difficult to determine (possibly an F-4 Phantom like Blitzwing (BB)).
He came with his partner-unit Road Rocket, who can become a backpack and battle-helmet for Powerflash.
Powerflash was part of the final wave of "standard" Action Masters, which was only available in European markets. As such, he's pretty dang rare, and even loose samples can command triple-digit pricetags from dealers.

Notes

  • Powerflash's conspicuous lack of face in his IDW appearances is likely due to artists referencing online pictures of the toy at the time. The figure's particular shade of gloss red paint is very hard to photograph in a way that doesn't drown out all the sculpt detail like, say, his nose and mouth.
