The new C.O.M.B.A.T. Bots arrive!

Synopsis

"The Saga's Latest" (Part 1)

The Earthforce notice that the Dinobots have to come to a halt. Blaster detects a priority pulse-wave requesting the aid of a C.O.M.B.A.T. Bot. With this new information, Hoist figures out what he thinks is the Constructicons' plan: go rogue, then gear up with a new weapon.

Not too far away, Grimlock spots the Constructicons and decides it's time for them to send their fake SOS to Cybertron, which will result in a C.O.M.B.A.T. Bot being sent to help them. Swoop sends the pulse-wave. Sludge is uneasy and feels like something will go wrong; Grimlock, by contrast, likes their chances. Their new C.O.M.B.A.T., Tyrannitron then arrives, and his quiet "grr" leaves the Dinobot leader underwhelmed. Swoop sees that the Constructicons have just received a C.O.M.B.A.T. of their own and tells Grimlock.

"The Saga's Latest" (Part 2)

Scrapper introduces his fellow Constructicons to their new friend Scorpulator. Mixmaster is underwhelmed, whereas Bonecrusher is reserving his judgement for after they see how he does in battle. Long Haul warns them about the incoming Dinobots, and Scorpulator directs their attention towards Tyrannitron, who is being wielded by Snarl. Hook has him transform into gun mode so he can test him out, and they learn of his acid-firing capabilities. Bonecrusher notices that the Dinobots have stopped moving, which Mixmaster realizes is so they can combine into Volcanicus. In response, the Constructicons merge to form Devastator. After arming themselves with their C.O.M.B.A.T. Bots, the two combiners square up for a battle.

Elsewhere, Megatronus Prime and Bomb-Burst plot to ignite a much more destructive conflict and resolve to watch and wait for the right moment to do so.

Gameplay

This event was an individual totaliser on the Mayhem gamemode, meaning players unlocked points on their own as opposed to with their Alliance. As a Mayhem event, each battle was still won by destroying the HQ, but instead of the rest of the buildings and defenses being destroyed upon them doing so, they could continuing destroying the remaining structures until the 3-minute timer is up to gain additional points. The one caveat is that these bases cost a whopping 15 fuel cells to raid, compared to alternative, easier (but lower-rewarding) 5-fuel-cell-worth bases in the same zones.

Although the top prize was technically a single Binary Bonding Element item, the more important (and more advertised) one was a 5-star Tyrannitron or Scorpulator Chip.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • The Constructicons sent out their priority pulse-wave for Scorpulator in the last event dialogue.
  • The Dinobots initially got the idea to summon a C.O.M.B.A.T. Bot in "Faction Free", while Scrapper alluded to the Constructicons soon getting one of their own in the following event.
  • Megatronus Prime and Bomb-Burst were previously seen in "Questionable Comrades", while Megatronus' words about watching from the sidelines harken back to a discussion they had in "Guardian Devil" (the preceding event).

Transformers references

  • Slug, Snarl, and Grimlock all make reference to munching metal.
  • Swoop namedrops infra-space.
  • As with his original toy, Tyrannitron is wielded by Snarl. While not possible in-game, Devastator also picks up Scorpulator at the end.

Errors

  • The "Bots" in "C.O.M.B.A.T. Bot" is inconsistently rendered as either "'Bot" or "'bot".

Trivia

  • Scorpulator is still referred to in-story as an acid spray gun in keeping with his original toy's description, but due to the need for Earth Wars counterparts to have the same ability, he functions as a shrapnel rifle (that also inflicts the Glass Gas effect) like Tyrannitron in-game.
