Lio Convoy goes deep into Nemesis. There, he confronts Galvatron and the two set the stage for the final battle.
Synopsis
[edit]
Approaching Nemesis in their spaceship, the Maximals swear to do whatever it takes to protect Gaia and its Angolmois Energy. Their approach hasn't gone unnoticed, as the watching Galvatron on board the Galvaburg II uses his Galva-Matrix to command Nemesis to ready its weapons. After a direct shot, the Maximal ship crashes onto the surface of the artificial planet and Gigastorm drops from the Galvaburg II with the Cyborg Beasts to act as a welcoming committee. The Archduke of Destruction shouts out to the Maximals to surrender and leave the ship, but is befuddled when they give no reaction. The Predacons storm the ship, only to find it empty and the self-destruct has been set! They flee the ship, which explodes with poor Gigastorm in its range.
The sneaky Maximals watch the explosion from afar, recognizing that with their ship destroyed, there's truly no turning back. They find a large exhaust port NAVI presumes to be connected to the energy section of Nemesis's core, and Lio Convoy proposes they follow the port to destroy the core and ultimately the planet. They will escape into space before the explosion and hopefully be rescued by Maximal Headquarters. Of course, there's little breathing room for the one going deep into the planet... The Maximals each volunteer to be sent to Nemesis's core, but Lio Convoy has already decided on himself and Scuba with the Tako Tank as support. Lio Junior protests, thinking that Lio Convoy is still treating him as a child, but the commander states that it's vital he remain behind, as Magnaboss is the only other person besides him who can bring the other Maximals back into space, along with preventing the Predacons from giving pursuit.

No sooner than Lio Convoy is done giving his order do Gigastorm and his comrades appear. Magnaboss is formed, and he and the other Maximals confront the Predacons while Lio Convoy and Scuba dive into the pit. They walk through a corridor before reaching a chamber where they're met by Galvatron. Lio Convoy begs the Emperor of Destruction to stop, as converting Angolmois Energy to evil threatens to destroy the universe. Galvatron mocks the claim and gets right to attacking, but Lio Convoy is able to stop the Predacon's axe with his Lion Claw. Galvatron again epouses his philosophy that the mighty power of Angolmois Energy is necessary for him to rule the universe "perfectly"—what he considers to be "perfect justice". Lio Convoy disagrees, as justice cannot be realized through the use of force. Galvatron asks what he thinks is justice then, and Lio Convoy isn't able to convey an answer before Scuba has the Tako Tank squirt its Octopus Ink to blind the Predacon Emperor. Taking the opportunity, Lio Convoy orders Scuba to press on ahead to the core, and the squid complies, despite a reluctance to leave his commander behind. Now alone with Galvatron, Lio Convoy gives his answer: Justice is within one's spirit and, no matter how much power is under his possession, justice without spirit can never be true justice. True to character, Galvatron dismisses it as nonsense.

The Tako Tank crawls deeper into Nemesis and finds the core, which Scuba ponders how to destroy. Lio Convoy and Galvatron's battle continues, and Galvatron points out the hypocrisy of Lio Convoy preaching about nonviolence, but using force against his enemy. Galvatron transforms into his drill tank and dragon modes, giving him the upper hand in battle, and mocks the idea of power without spirit and power without justice—the power he will soon demonstrate is justice and he commands Nemesis to absorb all of Gaia's Angolmois Energy. The Maximals and the Predacons still battling on the surface witness streams of energy emerging from Gaia and traveling to Nemesis, as do Artemis and Moon from within the Moon. NAVI realizes the pit that Lio Convoy transverse was an intake for Angolmois Energy all along!
The surging Angolmois Energy floods Nemesis's corridors and chambers, separating Lio Convoy and Galvatron as the latter mocks the former. Scuba catches wind of the torrent and flees into the core's tube. On the surface, Lio Junior feels the danger his father is in, forces Magnaboss to separate, and rushes into the energy intake, despite Santon and Skywarp's protestations.
