Transformers: Prime is an upcoming computer-animated television series that will air on The Hub in late 2010. It will be "rightfully huge."

Confirmed news

  • Susan Blu is the casting director (and likely voice director) for the series. Michael Bell and David Sobolov have auditioned for parts. Bell auditioned for Ratchet and "General Fowler."[1]
  • According to his official fansite, Jeffrey Combs will be voicing the role of Ratchet and there are 26 episodes scheduled for the first season.[2]
  • The series will have Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci as executive producers, and the cartoon is described as "cg-animated". [3] Alongside Kurtzman and Orci, one of the "show runners" is Jeff Kline.[4]
  • Digitalscape has announced on their website that they would be responsible for the CG production. [5] Jose Lopez later revealed that the animation would be a "groundbreaking mix of 2D animation and CGI". [6]
  • It is not yet known which continuity family the series will take place in, but it has been revealed that it will follow on from the back-story set up by the upcoming War for Cybertron video game and its tie-in book, Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron.[citation needed]
  • On May 17, 2010, it was revealed that Peter Cullen (the voice actor for Generation 1 Optimus Prime as well as the live-action movie Optimus Prime), would be lending his voice to Transformers: Prime.[7]
  • Producer Roberto Orci revealed on Don Murphy's forum that Frank Welker (voice of Generation 1 Megatron and live-action movie Megatron in the video games) had been cast in Transformers: Prime in some capacity and had in fact worked alongside Peter Cullen.[8]
  • At BotCon 2010, it was announced the show would focus on what it means to be a Prime. The main Autobots live on Earth as a pre-emptive measure against a Decepticon invasion, and there are recurring humans but the focus is on the Transformers. Optimus's robot design is reminiscent of the films and WFC, while Megatron's takes after WFC (including the "bucket head") and his Cybertronian Animated form. Optimus converts into a long nose truck while Megatron—who sees Earth forms as beneath him—and Starscream turn into alien jets. It was also revealed the producers have created a 350-page show bible to reference continuities and the show's CG models will also be subject to battle damage during episodes.[9]
  • Additional production staff include principal character designer Jose Lopez and supervising director Dave Hartman.[10]
  • A graphic novel tie-in by IDW Publishing, written by Mike Johnson with art by E.J. Su, Allan Jefferson, David Daza and Joe St. Pierre, will be be out October 10, 2010.[11]
