Altman and his colleague Greco were sent to Forbes's Garage to find anything that would lead to the Mechanic, whose criminal activities of recent had made him a priority arrest. The garage was abandoned, but the detectives did find two youngsters in panic about a supposedly haunted car. Altman and Greco took them to the station house, where their captain interpreted the story as further evidence that the Mechanic was receiving aid from the strange robots. As such, Altman and Greco received adjusted orders for tomorrow's operation to capture the Mechanic: If robots show up, take them out first.

As fate would have it, the robots did show up. While the police units focussed on them, the Mechanic and his accomplice got away. When the robots also left, they tried pursuing them but found the road too slippery to continue. Mechanical Difficulties!
