With the top of the crystal satellite serving as a lens for the Sun's rays, Megatron wanted to melt the Rocky Mountains to obtain the oil held within. He succeeded in the first part, creating an growing sea of oil and lava that threatened Los Angeles and the rest of the West Coast. However, he never got the oil because the Autobots destroyed the satellite before more damage could be done with it. Satellite of Doom
