Talk:Jazz (G1)/toys
Two things that I think we need:
- A category for character toy pages
- A small header template for the same, essentially identifying the page as subsidiary to the main character page. This would also be useful if we do things like split Optimus Prime's cartoon and comic appearances off onto their own page. -- Repowers 11:54, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
Given that name (disambig) toys looks awkward, why not move to name (disambig)/toys and turn on the subpages functionality? That would clearly establish this (and other cases, like the looming split of Optimus Prime (G1)'s fiction section) as subordinate, and look less awkward. - SanityOrMadness 11:58, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
- I like this plan. I'm proud to be a part of it. Let's do it! -- Repowers 12:02, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
- Just checked - the subpage functionality (Which can be seen at the top of User:SanityOrMadness/test - it's just a little note pointing back to the root page) is definitely not turned on in the main namespace. Even if everyone else is fine with it, we'll need Suzi Brits or someone with equivalent access to turn it on.
- [and, uh, could a passing sysop please delete Optimus Prime (G1)/test, which I used to check that?] - SanityOrMadness 20:10, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, you have to add $wgNamespacesWithSubpages['0'] = true; to the LocalSettings file, as the Main namespace has subpages turned off by default. --Jeysie 20:48, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
- We could just do it the same way we do the various galleries (example: Cybertron (planet)). - Magnus Maximus 01:31, 23 May 2009 (EDT)
- factions gets in the way. - SanityOrMadness 05:33, 23 May 2009 (EDT)
- Balls. - Magnus Maximus 08:27, 23 May 2009 (EDT)
- You know, even before we get the functionality turned on, moving the pages is probably a good idea anyway, since the toy pages aren't really separate articles. (There's some things like the year pages that'd probably benefit from the same.) --Jeysie 08:39, 23 May 2009 (EDT)
- Wait a day or two though - if we get any sort of visits-spike from the Animated finale, the site will probably go down, and there will probably be a few redirects, etc to fix from the moves. Best wait on any structural work until we've got a decent chance of finishing it in one go. - SanityOrMadness 09:23, 23 May 2009 (EDT)

'Tis done
Moved all the NAME toys pages I could find with the search function to NAME/toys since the subpages function has been set up to accommodate it. Now to whack Deceptitran's requests page :) - SanityOrMadness 12:54, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- Should we do something similar for things like the year subsection pages as well? --Jeysie 14:14, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- It might be an idea, but I'd like to hear other thoughts on it first. - SanityOrMadness 14:53, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- Does the subpages function do anything cool? - Starfield 14:40, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- Not especially - it just adds a little link back to the root page under the title. You can see it on this page now. - SanityOrMadness 14:53, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah. Mainly makes navigation easier.--RosicrucianTalk 14:55, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- Speaking of which, I should probably also ask what we should do about the now-redundant back-navigation on pages like Cybertron (planet)/gallery, if anything at all. --Jeysie 15:30, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- I personally like the other style of back-links. It looks a bit less stupid than...
- Jazz (G1)/toys
- < Jazz (G1)
- Jazz has appeared as many toys.
- ...which is how it is now. I reckon turn the subpage function back off, and just have the gallery-style links. We're not going to be putting factions on the toy pages anyway, are we? - Magnus Maximus 18:06, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- I would have no problem delinking the "Jazz has..." bit. Indeed, we probably should - and we really should put factions on the toy pages (specifically for insignia used on the toys) while we're at it. - SanityOrMadness 18:22, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- I still think it looks a bit silly written underneath itself on three lines like that whether it's linked or not. And as long as the factions are on the character page, and there's a clear link back to it (wherever it may be in regards to the layout), then I don't think they really need to be on the toys' page as well. - Magnus Maximus 18:34, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- FWIW, the subpages auto-link can be CSS-styled quite easily, if it's the look that's the problem. --Jeysie 20:08, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
- It's not the look, so much as the placing. I just think it looks a bit silly to have the article's subject stacked three-high like that right at the top of the page. We might as well put another line underneath them saying "This page is about Jazz, by the way, in case you didn't catch that." - Magnus Maximus 02:21, 2 June 2009 (EDT)
- But the article it's pointing back to is "Jazz (G1)". And I like the placing, and it's consistent across this and other wikis in this way. - SanityOrMadness 20:10, 2 June 2009 (EDT)

- Side effect found. Articles that already had a slash in them now have an automatic unintended point back on them. Example: Transformers/G.I. Joe: Divided Front. I don't know if it is a problem, it could be ignored. But is there a template like lowercase that can disable it? - Starfield 22:12, 3 June 2009 (EDT)
- I think this may need to be tweaked at the global CSS level - the wiki software prevents a <style> being hard-coded or transcluded into the page. - SanityOrMadness 13:48, 6 June 2009 (EDT)
Reissues
Should reissues be lumped under the entry for the original toy, or should they be given their own entries under Transformers Collection, Commemorative Series and Encore?--Nevermore 09:49, 6 July 2009 (EDT)
- They should get their own entry like you listed them there. Dead Metal 11:50, 6 July 2009 (EDT)
Reveal the Shield
Not trying to start an argument, just trying to make my case for the Fairlady comparison: Uni Prowl is based on the 350Z, which has a significantly different rear end from the 370Z, which looks like this http://www.nissan-insight.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/2012-Nissan-370Z.jpg whereas the Solstice has a dipped rear end that looks completely different from SO Jazz'
- The dipped rear-end, I would imagine, is taken from a Porsche, not any Nissan Z. It makes more sense that RtS Jazz would be a hybrid of his two most celebrated altmodes, rather than part Porsche and part something else entirely. --ItsWalky 22:51, 7 December 2010 (EST)
Scar on RTS Jazz's face.
It took me a bit to notice, but RTS Jazz has a molded "scar" on the right side of his face. Is this notable enough to include in his toy description?
