Dueling Transformers Beast Wars: Strongest Beast Warrior Finals is a fighting game for the Game Boy Color system.

It has a ridiculously long title and some adorably short combatants from Beast Wars, Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo.

Story

A super-powerful energon crystal is discovered on Earth, and various Maximals and Predacons fight amongst themselves and against one another to get to it. After the player defeats Megatron (who is always the final enemy, even if you're playing as him) in the cave of the crystal, they are shown a unique ending depending on whom they are playing as.

Endings

  • Lio Convoy: Determined to keep the crystal out of the wrong hands, Lio Convoy seals it away forever.
  • Galvatron: After absorbing the crystal, Galvatron grows mad with power and ends up destroying his own base.
  • Scuba: Scuba uses the crystal's power to repair the environmental damage caused by the Predacons.
  • Megastorm: Megastorm gloats to himself that with the power of the crystal, he will finally overcome Galvatron...only for his brother to steal the crystal right from under his nose.
  • Cheetor: Having used the crystal to become the most powerful of all Maximals, Cheetor is promoted to Supreme Commander. However, he can't handle the responsibility required for the post, and he runs away after only three days.
  • Guiledart: Guiledart decides not to use the crystal right away. Believing that there is still a long time until the war ends, he keeps it around as a future trump card.
  • Optimus Primal: Primal uses the crystal's power to defeat the Predacons once and for all, saving the universe!
  • Megatron: Megatron takes the crystal and sets out to defeat his eternal nemesis, Optimus Primal.
  • Star Upper: As Star Upper wants to become strong under his own power, he doesn't use the crystal for anything.
  • Artemis: Blissfully ignorant of the crystal's power, Artemis finds it really pretty and takes it home to decorate her room with it.

Gameplay

Domestic violence!

The game plays like your average fighting game, with two opponents battling it out on a small arena. The fighting controls are simple: one button for punches, one for kicks, and various button combinations for character-specific special moves. What makes the game unique is, naturally, the characters' ability to transform, which is done with the "select" button. The characters have different attacks in both modes.

During combat, the player can charge their "BP" gauge, which can be used for two different things when fully charged: activating "Hyper Mode" to increase attack strength temporarily, or using an extra-powerful special move known as a "Super Certain Kill Technique". When low on health, doing the Super Certain Kill Technique button combination backwards lets the player use an even stronger "Desperation" attack, but only in robot mode.

Mini-games

  • Punch de Go!: Destroy a rock in the quickest time possible.
  • Guard de Go!/Guard de Go! 2: Defend against as many projectiles as possible.
  • Run! Beast: A vertical scrolling game, where the player (permanently in their alternate mode) has to reach the goal while avoiding numerous pits.
  • Fight! Beast: Like "Run! Beast", except with action. The player is under constant attack from bacteria and has to shoot them down. Each characters' projectiles act differently.

Bonus characters Starscream, BB, DJ and Scylla are only available in the "Run! Beast" and "Fight! Beast" games. The first three have the distinct advantage of using flying alternate modes, so pits have no effect on them.

Playable characters

Gotta punch 'em all!

Maximals

In mini-games only

Predacons

In mini-games only

Other

  • Artemis & Moon (listed in-game as Predacons for balance reasons)

Notes

  • As they possess vehicle modes, Megastorm and Galvatron take less damage in their alternate modes than characters with beast modes, but these modes are also slow and lack the ability to jump.
  • Several other characters and concepts are also included in this game during the playable characters' Super Certain Kill Technique animations:
    • Megatron can summon Waspinator, Terrorsaur, Tarantulas, Inferno and Scorponok to attack his foe.
    • Scuba pilots the Tako Tank during his robot-mode super move.
    • While Galvatron can only be controlled in his robot and drill-tank modes, his third dragon mode appears during one of his super moves.
