Starscream is a Predacon Combatron from the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Maximillion Pegasus}}]].

Confident, clever and sort of effeminate, Starscream (スタースクリーム Sutāsukurīmu) is Galvatron's second-in-command in all but name, something that drives the actual second-in-command, Megastorm, up the wall. Easily the most reliable Predacon on Gaia, Starscream is usually perfectly content with his position within the ranks, but he's not above betraying his comrades if the situation calls for it.

Starscream is something of a snob and a narcissist (including listening to Wagner) who doesn't suffer fools or low-class fashion rejects lightly. He prefers to hide behind his partner, the hulking bruiser BB, not so much because he can't fight but because he'd rather not get his hands dirty or his paint job scuffed. When left with no alternative but to throw down, Starscream and BB can combine to create the Combination Stealth Mode, which is more than a match for most Maximals.

He was later upgraded via Angolmois Energy into the Cyborg Beast Hellscream (ヘルスクリーム Herusukurīmu). It didn't do much for his looks, but it certainly made him a tougher foe on the battlefield.

I look like Thundercracker!

Starscream was the brains of a Combatron jet duo with his partner, BB. They served Galvatron aboard the Galvaburg II when he brought his Predacons to the planet Gaia, in search of the amazing powers of Angolmois Energy. The New Forces Arrive! When Galvatron fell into a coma shortly after arriving on the planet, Starscream began conspiring with BB to ingratiate themselves with the new self-appointed Emperor of Destruction, Galvatron's younger brother Megastorm. They planned to be the first to capture the mysterious white lion that had caught the interest of both Galvatron and Megastorm. Starscream chastised BB when he launched a missile payload at the white lion during their capture mission, and was humiliated when the comedy duo Dirge and Thrust saw their near-fatal mistake. He had BB block their competition out in a smokescreen missile, leading Dirge and Thrust to crash into a cliffside. Starscream and BB then captured the lion in a net missile and presented the net humbly to Megastorm back at base. Unfortunately, the lion was actually the Maximal commander Lio Convoy, who unleashed his rage and arsenal on the Predacons for the damage they had done to the creatures and natural order of Gaia. Starscream, BB, and Megastorm were quickly driven into retreat. White Lion, Run!

Tee hee!

After the last debacle, Megastorm wanted the chance to redeem himself against Lio Convoy and take credit for dispatching him. He ordered his subordinates to find Lio Convoy but not engage, merely report the Maximal commander's position to him. Starscream saw through Megastorm's plan immediately, but went along with it to stay in the acting emperor's good graces. He and BB went so far as to avoid conflict with other, less-important Maximals while on their search, and dispatching Dirge and Thrust in a rockslide to prevent any competition. The Maximal Bighorn would not be denied, however, and his thirst for combat finally forced Megastorm, Starscream and BB to fight with him, where he proved surprisingly effective. Bighorn's Rage

Starscream next orchestrated a plot to catch the Maximals in a lakeside trap. First, he had the Autorollers build the exterior of a fortress by the lake as a lure. When Tasmania Kid arrived and destroyed the fake base, Starscream trapped him in a cage controlled by the real, underwater base. He then pulled Kid into a series of deathtraps in their lake base, while using the danger to Kid to lure the other Maximals in. Starscream succeeded in snaring Lio Convoy, Bighorn and Apache just as he trapped Kid by the lakeside. Unfortunately, a chain is only as strong as its dumbest link. When Dirge and Thrust went topside in a mini-sub to retrieve the Maximals, their sub was boarded by a real Tasmanian devil. Thinking Tasmania Kid had somehow escaped (and shrank), Dirge and Thrust returned to the base without the captive Maximals and left a hatch open so that Diver and Scuba could enter as well. As Starscream was left wondering how his partners could be so stupid as to mistake the Tasmanian devil for a Maximal, Diver shut down the cage holding Lio Convoy's crew and Scuba freed the Kid. Then BB started firing missiles in the tight hallways of the pressurized, underwater base, and Megastorm decided to cut his losses and remotely blow up the base with his men still inside, and...look, it WAS a good plan, alright? The Lake Trap

Starscream watched closely as Megastorm became rankled at the idea of giving up his power once Galvatron awakened. Starscream kept an eye on Megastorm as his attempt to quietly dispose of his sleeping brother only turned Galvatron into a revived Angolmois Energy-powered dragon. As Galvatron engaged the Maximals in battle, Megastorm dislodged his brother's footing and sent him tumbling into a volcano, unaware he was being monitored by Starscream. Galvatron Revived Without Megastorm's consent, Starscream retrieved Galvatron from the volcano and brought his inert body back to the Galvaburg II for recuperation, leaving Megastorm off-balance on whether Starscream was conspiring against him. Mystery of the Ancient Ruins

When Dirge and Thrust were trounced thoroughly by Insectrons native to the Southern Continent, Starscream confidently told Megastorm he could devise a plan to eliminate the threat. Starscream and BB set up a series of hard energy nets in the Insectrons' territory, planning to capture the bugs and then free them, claiming the traps had been set by the Maximals. They successfully made contact with Bigmos and Tonbot this way, and left the Insectrons with a falsified data disc containing information on the Maximals. This sent Bigmos and Tonbot into a battle with Lio Convoy's crew, which Starscream and BB secretly intervened on by trying to collapse an entire ravine on the two factions with their missiles. The Maximals and Insectrons survived, but Starscream's involvement in the rockslide was left undiscovered. The Insect Corps Arrive

For his next trick, Starscream and BB fired upon the Maximals Diver, Bighorn and Tasmania Kid, luring them into the nest of another group of Insectrons, Scissor Boy, Powerhug, and Drill Nuts. He begged his Insectron "friends" to save them from the pursuing Maximals, leading to another fight between the two groups. When the Maximals dropped low on power from fighting the Insectrons, Starscream and the Combatrons emerged to finish them off. Unfortunately for Starscream, Lio Convoy and the other Maximals arrived to reinforce their ailing friends. Friend or Foe? The Insect Robos

Starscream's final plot involved creating an adorable cartoon hologram of himself to invite the Insectrons to an oil party. He had secretly spike the oil to make it extra-intoxicating, hoping the Insectrons would get so drunk they would begin brawling and wipe each other out. Surprisingly, that's exactly what happened at first until the Maximals arrived and hosed them down. When Galvatron also got into Starscream's special stash of oil, he ran amok and served as the impetus for the Maximals and Insectrons to join forces and make a lasting peace. The Strongest Tag Team?

Disgraced, Starscream was unable to stop Megastorm from giving the job of removing the Insectrons to the Autorollers. Fearing what would happen if the Autorollers eclipsed his accomplishments, Starscream and BB shadowed the Autorollers and discovered their leader, Autostinger, was owed a debt from the Insectrons' leader Bigmos from long ago. Stinger tried to get Bigmos to return the debt by stepping aside so the Autorollers could eliminate the Maximals, but Bigmos escaped the debt another way and challenged Autostinger to a duel. As the Maximals, Insectrons, and Autorollers present entered a cave system for the bout, Starscream saw an opportunity. He had BB blast the mountain with missiles, hoping to eliminate his competition and enemies in one act. Unfortunately for Starscream, all the combatants survived his sneak attack. Autorollers Roll Out!

Starscream and BB were out on patrol when the Autorollers brought their captives Tasmania Kid and Scissor Boy back to the Galvaburg II. Megastorm tried to call the Combatrons back to help him when the Maximals and Insectrons arrived to protect their friends, but they arrived too late and Megastorm had to move the ship to escape their enemies' onslaught. Danger! Scissor Boy

Starscream was spying on the Autorollers' fortress operation after their failures led to the unit being removed from Insectron duty. Rejected, the Autorollers planned to undermine Starscream's standing in the Predacons and eliminate the Insectrons in one swoop by causing explosions of Angolmois Energy around the continent using their underground pipelines. To preserve his status, Starscream had BB shut down the main pipeline, causing a build up back at the Autorollers' fortress that would destroy the would-be-usurpers permanently. Starscream's dazzling victory dance was interrupted when simple BB asked if Starscream would be doing the Autorollers' heavy-lifting assignments once they were destroyed. As Starscream stopped short to consider the indignity of *ugh*manual labor, the rampaging Galvatron pierced the pipelines and began guzzling Angolmois Energy, growing to gigantic size. As his former leader-turned-kaiju started stomping through the countryside, Starscream motioned to BB and they exited, stage left, before anyone realized what they had done. Galvatron Rampages

As Megastorm ordered a massive attack on the South Continent, Starscream, BB and the Combatrons fought against the Maximals and Insectrons once more. Predacon General Offensive!

Soon, Galvatron was back on his feet and in control of his own mind. Starscream's boot-licking immediately shifted back to Galvatron instead of Megastorm, much to the Duke of Destruction's chagrin. Starscream and BB were dispatched to locate a mysterious ship making a forced landing on Gaia, and got into a battle with the Maximals over the wreck. They were soon confronted with the pilots, however, a trio called the Jointrons in their combination form as Tripledacus. Tripledacus humbled Starscream and BB, sending them fleeing back to the Galvaburg II. Galvatron wanted this mighty warrior dealt with, and sent the duo back out to find him. However, they had no idea Tripledacus was a combiner, and ignored the Jointrons when they first spotted them. The Combined Giant, Tripledacus

Starscream continued to seek Galvatron's favor, subtly undermining Megastorm and putting him down while advancing his own position. The Festive Jointrons Starscream readied a plan to eliminate the Jointrons using a bacteria bomb he concocted that would drain their energy away. He and BB coated two of the three Jointrons with the sludge, leaving them incapable of forming Tripledacus and on the run. Unfortunately, Lio Convoy and the other Maximals arrived to teach the Jointrons a lesson in teamwork, and the trio shared energy to eradicate the bacteria bomb's effects, driving off Starscream and BB once more. A Fearsome Combination Plan?

Galvatron modified his orders, dictating that the Jointrons be captured so that their transformation sequence could be analyzed for the creation of a Predacon combiner. Starscream and BB rigged some net missiles and staked out one of the Autorollers' fortress sites to catch their prey. The Jointrons were squabbling with each other, making the Predacons' job that much easier. The problem was, Starscream left the mission of transporting the individually-snared Jointrons to BB, Dirge, and Thrust. He stayed behind to...monitor the Autorollers' fight with the remaining Maximals, only for the other Combatrons to return and admit they all lost their catches. The Jointrons reunited, formed Tripledacus, and Starscream's men were forced to flee. Who Is the Leader!?

Later on, the Autorollers uncovered an unknown device in the ancient ruins. Starscream evaluated the device and determined it was a Copy Machine. At Galvatron's command, Starscream tested the device on BB, creating a Copy BB. The clone proved to be inherently opposite of the original, prompting an idea by Galvatron to deposit the Copy Machine where the Maximals could find it. Sure enough, Tasmania Kid soon used the device to create Copy Convoy, an evil copy of Lio Convoy who broke free on his own. Starscream and BB found Copy Convoy running through the forest, and Starscream found the evil Convoy respectably diabolical and a little bit snuggly. When Copy Convoy fired on Starscream and BB they left, but Starscream privately told BB the Copy did that because the Maximals were watching, and respected his deviousness. The Black Lio Convoy

When Artemis and Moon compared the strength of the Maximals and Predacons, Starscream was measured against Scuba. He also defended BB when his partner was compared to Bighorn, stating BB's firepower and strength were far greater than mere strength alone. He was called back for the final bout, mostly just because Artemis found him so dreamy. Who Is the Strongest Warrior!?

Starscream's efforts to undermine Megastorm finally provoked a reaction. When Galvatron needed a recon team to determine the threat posed by the Space Pirate Seacons, Starscream naturally volunteered. Megastorm shot down Starscream's request, however, and gave the assignment to Dirge and Thrust instead. Galvatron still allowed Starscream and BB to carry out the next Seacon mission, over Megastorm's objections. The Tentacular Scuba When Megastorm made contact with the Seacons on Galvatron's behalf, he negotiated a bounty on the Maximals' heads. Starscream was quick to point out, however, that Megastorm's math meant the Predacons would lose their entire supply of Angolmois Energy to the Seacons if the pirates were successful. A flustered Megastorm was left trying to defend his negotiations to Galvatron while Starscream watched on. Megastorm's Reckoning

After performing a scan on the Seacons' Photon sailer, Starscream determined they were in need of some particular parts for repairs. With Galvatron's approval, he approached the Seacons for another negotiation to eliminate the Maximals. Unlike Megastorm, Starscream retained the upper hand during the negotiations with Halfshell, and managed to draft a fair deal with the Seacon captain. Starscream and BB later joined the Seacons in battle with the Maximals and Tripledacus, but were driven off. Face the Setting Sun

Still more realistic than U571.

While eavesdropping on the Seacons, Starscream and BB learned of a duel between Lio Convoy and Halfshell. He proposed to Galvatron that the Predacons secretly observe the fight, hoping Lio Convoy lost and being ready to strike down the surely weakened Maximal commander even if he won. Unfortunately for Starscream's plan, Megastorm insisted on coming along and jumped the gun by firing off his Mega-Cannon. Not only did he fail to kill Lio Convoy with his sneak attack, he set off a deposit of Angolmois Energy and ended the bout prematurely. The Final Battle

As Galvatron's artificial planet Nemesis approached Gaia, its influence began to corrupt the Angolmois Energy on the planet, making it volatile. Starscream and BB were present to observe Galvatron enter a geyser of Angolmois Energy and seemingly get consumed by the eruption. They looked on knowingly as Megastorm cheered his brother's apparent demise and showed disappointment when Galvatron emerged more powerful than ever. Enter Lio Junior Galvatron was not powerful enough to defeat a new Maximal combiner called Magnaboss, however, whose center component Lio Junior, the "son" of Lio Convoy, had been born from Angolmois Energy. Starscream and BB performed extensive surgery to repair Galvatron's wound, but their commander was once again lost in a comatose state.

As Megastorm once again began to seize control of the Predacons, Starscream saw an opening when the Duke of Destruction groused about how powerful the Angolmois Energy made his brother. Thinking quickly, Starscream claimed to have performed scientific experiments that proved Megastorm would be able to power up from exposure to Angolmois Energy just as his brother did, and wouldn't die horribly like he thought. Megastorm hesitantly accepted Starscream's conclusions, and agreed to be dropped in a chasm filled with Angolmois Energy to reformat himself. As Starscream prepared to drop the Duke, Megastorm started having second thoughts, but Starscream sent him screaming into the pit of Angolmois Energy anyway. Unfortunately for Starscream's plotting, Megastorm DID emerge more powerful than ever, transformed into the titanic Gigastorm. Still, Starscream was safe for the moment because Gigastorm believed Starscream intended that result, and was unaware it was actually an assassination attempt. Megastorm Reborn

Starscream was infuriated as Gigastorm began throwing his weight around again as the "new Emperor of Destruction". He and BB actually ignored a call for assistance from their leader out of sheer petulance. In the meantime, they investigated a mysterious falling capsule that turned out to be new weaponry from the Maximals. The capsule eventually led them to the site of Gigastorm's battle, relieving them of any explanation for why they weren't showing up when called. The New Weapon, Tako Tank

Next, Starscream and BB caught Gigastorm in the act of genuine fratricide, as he attempted to dismember the sleeping Galvatron with a chainsaw. He then tried to flood Galvatron's system with Angolmois Energy until he overloaded, a foolish notion that only sped Galvatron's healing process, bringing him back on line. Starscream quickly welcomed his emperor back into the fold and warned him of Gigastorm's assassination attempts. Safe behind Galvatron's protection, he once again began openly taunting Gigastorm about his poor leadership qualities as well. Gigastorm's Treachery

Starscream's attempt at killing Megastorm was finally uncovered by Dirge and Thrust, who secretly recorded Starscream's admission and showed the video to Gigastorm. Furious, Gigastorm arranged a trap for Starscream and BB away from base where Galvatron couldn't stay his hand. Starscream and BB were sent hunting for Maximals in a certain area that was rich in Angolmois Energy, where Gigastorm intended to set off explosives and destroy them. Ironically, the Maximals actually did arrive, dissuading Starscream's suspicion that Gigastorm was setting them up. Attempting to prove their valor and worth to the Predacons, Starscream ordered BB to perform their Formation Scream, unleashing their entire missile payload and energy reserves in one massive strafing run. The Maximals were nearly taken out by this enormous display of firepower, but timely found shelter behind a rock formation. Left powerless in the aftermath, Starscream and BB abandoned their pride and waved the white flag, even offering to join the Maximals to save themselves.

Jawesome!

Disappointed with the outcome, Gigastorm finally set off his explosives, sending Starscream and BB into the pits of Angolmois Energy below them. As Galvatron and Gigastorm did before, Starscream and BB emerged as incredibly powerful new warriors, Cyborg Beasts known as Hellscream and Max-B. They were now powerful enough to battle all the Maximals, even Magnaboss, before being temporarily disposed of by the Tako Tank. When they broke free from the rubble, Hellscream and Max-B confronted Gigastorm and recognized his role in their upgrade. Before the rivals could begin fighting, however, Galvatron arrived and forced all his subordinates back in line. The End of Starscream

Artemis has low standards when it comes to men.

Later, when a strange ship landed on Gaia, Hellscream took part in stealing the control unit for it. However, a few minutes later, Lio Junior charged at him and almost killed him, but he was saved by Max-B. Hellscream pinned Lio Junior to a wall using his Terror Storm attack, and nearly struck down the helpless cub with a Sharkwinder missile. Instead, Tasmania Kid jumped in the way, taking the missile meant for Lio Junior. Hellscream was present for the summoning of Majin Zarak, and took part in the climactic battle only to be beaten up by Diver and Bighorn, and forced into retreat along with the others. Galvatron stated that he and the others were morons and continued the attack on the Maximals. Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!

As the artificial planet Nemesis zeroed in on Gaia, the Maximals stepped up their counter-attacks, and the Predacon response increased as well. Hellscream and Max-B were sent to stop the Maximals from freezing the volatile corrupted Angolmois Energy drawn out by Nemesis's presence. They encounter Tripledacus trying to stop the flow of Angolmois Energy with one massive iceberg. The Great Angolmois Freezing Tactic Later, they targeted the Niagara Cannon the Maximals intended to use to obliterate Nemesis before it reached Gaia. Hellscream was suspicious by how obvious the Maximals were in transporting the cannon, and so he had Max-B scan the area, locating Scuba and the Tako Tank transporting a second cannon. Unfortunately for the Predacons, that cannon was also a decoy. Knock Out Nemesis

Lio Junior increased his attacks on Autoroller fortress operations, forcing Hellscream and Max-B to step up when Dirgegun and Thrustor once again proved inadequate. When Galvatron emerged on the battlefield to run a con on Lio Junior, however, Hellscream and Max-B wisely stepped back and allowed their Emperor to carry on his scheme. Lio Junior's Revolt!?

Hellscream's "peeping head" uncovered news of a robot from Mars found by the Maximals which could allegedly retake control of the Angolmois Energy. Galvatron ordered him and Max-B to prevent the Maximals from doing so, but Lio Junior and the combined Magnaboss held off Hellscream and Max-B so that Lio Convoy and the emissary robot could continue. Emissary of the Fourth Planet Once it was clear the emissary robot intended to "control" the Angolmois Energy by destroying the planet, Galvatron ordered his Cyborg Beasts to withdraw so the Maximals could deal with the situation for them uncontested. The Crisis of Planet Gaia

Hellscream discovered some Insectron activity in the Rock Mountains, but Gigastorm told him to just ignore the bugs. The Cyborg Beasts were called to battle when Dirgegun and Thrustor miraculously discovered the Maximals' hidden base all of a sudden, and Gigastorm wanted to stage an all-out raid. Hellscream was incredulous at the idea of the comedy duo suddenly becoming lucky, competent, or both, but his concerns were dismissed as jealousy. Hellscream and Max-B finally abandoned the Niagara battle altogether to recheck his suspicions, and they uncovered a missile catapult in the Rock Mountains, showing Galvatron that the Maximals planned to launch into space to confront the Nemesis. The Predacons rediverted troops to stop the launch, but they ultimately failed. Fly Out! Planet Gaia

The sycophantic Hellscream praised Galvatron for his foresight when he dispatched the Seacons to delay the Maximals so that the Galvaburg II could reach Nemesis ahead of them. Revenge of the Space Pirates

On Nemesis, the Predacons shot down the Maximal ship and boarded the wreckage, only to find the Maximals weren't present. They barely escaped the pre-rigged self-destruct mechanism. Hellscream and the Cyborg Beasts confronted the Maximals as Lio Convoy tried to shut down Nemesis at its Angolmois Energy core. Breaking into Nemesis When Galvatron emerged from the core, he told the assembled Maximals and Predacons that Lio Convoy and Lio Junior had been consumed by the Angolmois Energy he unleashed. Hellscream and the Predacons cheered the death of Lio Convoy, but Galvatron bid them to be silent, mourning the loss of a valiant foe. Legend! The Green Warrior To everyone's surprise, Lio Convoy and Lio Junior emerged as the legendary Green Lion, powerful enough to drain all of Gigastorm's Angolmois Energy from him. When Galvatron left to reignite the sabotaged core, Hellscream and the Beasts continued the fight against the remaining Maximals, despite the threat of Nemesis exploding at any moment. Hellscream had prepared a speech to inspire loyalty and comradery for the greater good in his fellow Cyborg Beasts, but Gigastorm had to wake up in the middle and ruin it. The moment had passed, so the Cyborg Beasts got together and lugged the lumbering Gigastorm off of Nemesis before it exploded. Farewell! Lio Convoy

The Maximal Brainwashing Operation

[edit]

Starscream hatched a scheme to capture a couple of Maximals and brainwash them into Predacons. Amused by this plan, Galvatron granted Starscream permission to put it into motion. Soon, BB brought him Tasmania Kid and Diver, and Starscream went to work on the pair.

Starscream then oversaw the altered Maximals' initial ambush on their former allies. After the initial surprise strike, the rest of the Predacons joined in on the attack. But as the Predacons pressed on, Dirge and Thrust turned up on the battlefield as allies of the Maximals! Annoyed that Lio Convoy had "stolen his idea" to brainwash enemy combatants, Starscream ordered BB to shoot the "traitors" out of the sky. The Predacons were on the verge of victory when a stray shot from Megastorm rocked the battlefield, badly injuring the Predacon forces. Starscream and the rest of the Predacons retreated, with the unconscious Dirge and Thrust in tow. The Maximal Brainwashing Operation

Beast Wars II comic

[edit]

Starscream joined Galvatron and his Predacons on Gaia in their quest for Angolmois Energy. After Galvatron absorbed some Angolmois Energy and fell into a deep sleep, Megastorm hooked up the Predacon leader to the machinery of the Galvatron Dekazura Tank to power it, and enlisted Starscream and his other fellow Predacons into piloting the vehicle against the Maximals. Their enemies soon came rushing towards them in a counter-offensive, and Starscream and BB manned the tank's turrets to blast them. Though they managed to shoot down Lio Convoy as he and Bigmos approached them from the air, they weren't as successful in stopping Tasmania Kid, who had tried a similar tactic with Tonbot. A secondary offensive from the Maximals led to the tank sinking into a nearby river, and finally Lio Convoy managed to battle Megastorm within it, resulting in the tank's self-destruct mechanism being activated. The Predacons were all blown away in the resulting explosion. Demolish the Superdreadnought Tank!

"Let's get this rave started! ACEEEEEED!"

Starscream spent time in a Maximal prison facility, where he developed grandiose plans for the future. Beast Wars Sourcebook #4 There, Starscream also met and befriended the traumatized giant BB. During an escape from the prison, Starscream took BB with him, solidifying BB's loyalty to Starscream. Beast Wars Sourcebook #1 After their escape, Starscream and BB joined Galvatron's Destrons. Beast Wars Sourcebook 4 Starscream was later exposed to Angolmois Energy by Gigastorm, which altered the jet into the vicious Hellscream. Hellscream hated his new form and preferred to have his jet form back. Beast Wars Sourcebook #2

At some point, Hellscream became one of Unicron's heralds and subsequently one of Shokaract's Heralds. When Shokaract faced Big Convoy in battle, Hellscream and the other Heralds returned to Cybertron with, as Hellscream put it, more than enough Angolmois for Shokaract's eternal glory. The Ascending # 3 He went on to help spread Angolmois across Cybertron, causing widespread chaos and violence. When Shokaract suddenly disappeared from the battlefield, he and his fellow Heralds temporarily retreated to think up what to do next. Duel Fight Transformers Beast Wars

[edit]

When the super-powerful Energon Quartz was discovered on Gaia, Starscream was one of the several Predacons involved in the ensuing conflicts. He was not, however, directly involved in combat. Instead, he was sent on missions to traverse pit-riddled fields while fending off enormous bacteria opponents. He also explained the basic mechanics of gameplay to watching players, to whom he complained about not being able to fight, until he couldn't think of anything else to say and left, with Artemis taking his place for later tutorials. Beast Wars

[edit]
  • Starscream & BB (Ultra, 1998)
  • ID number: D-13
  • Release date: March ??, 1998
  • Accessories: 2 missile launchers, 2 "Screamwinder" missiles
  • Known designers: Takio Ejima (TakaraTomy), Masakatsu Saito (concept artist){{#if: |, {{{2}}}}}
Part of the first wave of Beast Wars II products in the Japanese Beast Wars toyline, packaged in a set with BB, Starscream is a redeco of Generation 2 Smokescreen, transforming into a fighter jet of undetermined and possibly-made-up model. He has two side-mounted spring-loaded rocket launchers that fire his "Screamwinder" missiles, which can be used as hand-held weapons in robot mode. Despite the difference in name between Starscream and BB's missiles, they are all the exact same and can be fired or dropped from any of the designated launchers. They are however slightly shorter than the Generation 2 version, and as such are incompatible with Smokescreen and Dreadwing's launchers (and also incompatible with future versions of this mold set due to new tooling done for those releases).
Starscream can also combine with BB's vehicle mode to form the large Combination Stealth Mode stealth bomber jet.
Starscream's color scheme is based on the unreleased Megatron ATB & Starscream iteration of the mold. Importantly, Beast Wars II Starscream has silver plastic rather than the ATB Starscream's light gray, and a black-painted helmet with a silver mask where ATB Starscream has an unpainted gray helmet with a blue mask. And of course, different stickers; an unfortunate case of bad transliteration results in the stickers on his tailfins and on BB's arms calling him "Starscrem". And finally, he's also been slightly retooled to add an indent for a rubsign under the toy's right wing.
Sonokong also released this figure in their Beast-War toyline as Starscream (actually meant to be "Starscrem" [sic]).<ref>The original Korean text "스타스크램" translates more or less into English as "Starscrem"/"Starscram", however; the packaging still has "Starscream" written in full English. Ironically, the poor transliteration used on the stickers makes the English translation for this release of the toy somewhat accurate.</ref> Aside from the difference in packaging, the Korean release of the figure is identical to the Takara releases. In place of the bio cards of the Takara releases, Starscream comes with two "rock paper scissors" cards.

Part of the tenth wave of Beast Wars II toys, Hellscream is an extensive retooling of the American Beast Wars Deluxe Class Cybershark mold, transforming into a cyborg shark. This toy features a new mechanically styled beast mode head, fins and tail, a new robot mode head, arm, and leg.
In beast mode, his shark head can be launched as his "Peeping Head" drone, and can also be used as his hand-held "Gale Dagger" in robot mode. In robot mode his Gale Dagger or any of his "Sharkwinder" missiles (which store in his back) can fire from his chest via a spring-loaded missile launcher. His tail turbine is removed for transformation and is reconnected to form his left forearm in robot mode. The tail turbine also features a spring-loaded mechanism, which is where the Sharkwinder missiles are intended to be used. The blade portion of his Gale Dagger can also be removed if one chooses to use just the blade without the rest of the head attached.
This mold was slightly redecoed to make Universe Overbite. A retool of the original mold was also used to make Sharp Edge.

Notes

[edit]
  • Starscream's name is repeatedly misspelled as "Starscrem" in Japanese material, including the stickers on the toy. This mistake also carried over to the Korean-market rendering of the name.
  • Much like the rest of the new cast introduced from "Enter Lio Junior" onwards, Hellscream received a completely original character model by Takashi Yamamoto for "Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!", whereas his cartoon character model was designed by one of three other model artists. In Hellscream's case, he features a simplified head design, clawed fingers, and a more teal deco.
  • Transformers Cloud Hellwarp is both a roundabout and direct homage to Hellscream.

Foreign names
