As he himself was forbidden from flying the rocket he'd built, Zamojin scientist Niko Don built Nijika to pilot it in his stead. The launch of the rocket was aborted when the planet came under attack by the Quintessons, who feared what the Zamojin might become if they had the technology to travel to the stars. Nijika was knocked from the side of the rocket, the impact damaging her and destroying her face. Nijika remained in a damaged state, being passed down to Niko Don's descendants for approximately the next five thousand years.

Eventually Nijika ended up in the hands of Katsu Don, a blacksmith. The quadrant lock the Quintessons had used to seal the planet away was breached by a group of Autobots, including Perceptor, who was recovered by Katsu. Katsu removed the Autobot's insignia and used it to replace Nijika's lost face. Unbeknownst to him, Perceptor's personality became implanted in Nijika courtesy of the universal emulator hidden behind the insignia.

However, the Quintessons also needed the universal emulator, so they had Cyclonus grab Nijika while Perceptor was persuading the Zamojin that Blurr was friendly. Once the Quintessons had the emulator, Nijika was thrown from their ship and (presumably) landed safely, though once again in a non-operative state. Thanks to Perceptor's work, the Zamojin's telepathic network was restored, and Katsu Don promised he would finish Niko Don's work, repair Nijika and presumably build a new rocket.
