Skywarp and the Seekers go head to head with Jetfire, as Predacon works towards perfecting his experiments...

Synopsis

For millions of years, the war between the Autobots, the Decepticons, and more recently the Mini-Cons has raged, until Cybertron was attacked by the evil creator of the Mini-Cons, Unicron! During the Unicron Battles, all sides worked together to stop the monster planet, and succeeded. With the loss of Galvatron, however, the Decepticons have scattered, while the Autobots work together with both the Mini-Cons and their human allies to rebuild their home. Jetfire leads the Mini-Cons Cliffjumper and Refute along with human ally Stella Holley, welding the planet back together. Suddenly, the four are alerted when a group of Seekers fly on by; Cliffjumper wonders if they should report to Optimus, but Jetfire holds her back, not believing the Decepticons are a cause for concern...for now.

The Seekers—Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker—arrive at their base in the Wastelands, the most desolate area of Cybertron. Entering their compound, the trio is greeted by the mad scientist Predacon, who asks if they've found any more Mini-Cons for his experiments. Skywarp and Thundercracker both report negative, noting that no one really wants to go through Predacon's experiments. Macabre as ever, Starscream figures they could "persuade" some Mini-Cons, and Skywarp, disgusted by his cousin, pushes Starscream back, with Thundercracker remembering all too well what happened to Swindle. Unfazed, Starscream pushes Skywarp even further, asking him about what happened to Thunderclash. Predacon tries to break up the fight, worried that an Autobot might find them...and one does, as Jetfire blasts through the wall! Skywarp, all business, tells Thundercracker and Starscream to help Predacon gather up his work as he takes on Jetfire. Skywarp's missiles don't impress the Autobot, who throws up his shield just in time, and promises to show him how a quick draw is done, powering up his gun to fire off a massive blast. At the last second, Skywarp uses his ability to teleport, warping in right behind Jetfire and disarming him. However, with the others making their escape, Skywarp lets him go, promising that they'll meet again.

Soon after, Cliffjumper, Refute, and Stella arrive to investigate what Predacon left behind. Cliffjumper is surprised that Skywarp let Jetfire go, but the Autobot can't complain too much. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the Seekers are far the only threat they'll have to deal with. Observing the strange chambers Predacon built to experiment on Mini-Cons, Stella finds one that's been ripped open from the inside...with strange, animalistic claw marks covering it. Soon, the Autobots will have to face the wrath of a new enemy: the Terrorcons!

Continuity notes

This comic takes place in the same, vaguely Dreamwave Productions-based world as the pack-in mini-comics for both the Transformers: Armada and Transformers: Energon toylines. Notably, this story incorporates elements of both the Dreamwave Armada comics, including the Mini-Cons ability to speak, and the Armada cartoon, with the Mini-Cons said to have been creations of Unicron.
The story serves as a bridge between the Armada and Energon mini-comics. The final Armada mini-comic ended with Cybertron under attack by Unicron, and featured Galvatron as the Decepticon leader. In the first volume of the Energon mini-comic, Unicron had apparently been defeated, with the Autobots contending with the threat of the Terrorcons, and with Megatron reborn deep within Unicron's form, with this comic making the implication of Galvatron's death in the Unicron Battles explicit.

Transformers references

The introductory caption refers to the fight against Unicron as "the Unicron Battles", the subline imprint of the Armada franchise which saw Unicron appear as the main threat.
Jetfire appears in his Powerlinx toy colors, accompanied by Cliffjumper and Refute, who enjoy some of their first appearances in fiction beyond appearing in crowd scenes and guidebook profiles. Stella Holley, meanwhile, comes from the Linkage manga, packed-in with the DVD release of Legend of the Microns (the Japanese version of Armada). Her inclusion is a result of the author, Randy Para, being a huge fan of her creator, Hirofumi Ichikawa. The spacesuit she wears, meanwhile, is a black and purple version of the suit worn by the Energon character, Misha Miramond.
Being packed-in with his new Timelines toy, Skywarp is of course depicted in that form. Starscream is drawn to the specifications of his Legends toy, while Thundercracker is repurposed from the Legends Armada Starscream Super Mode toy (his original Armada toy was depicted in the Japanese release of the toyline and its fiction as a powered-up version of Starscream).
The Wastelands previously appeared in Thundercracker's profile in the Dreamwave Productions More than Meets the Eye: Transformers: Armada guidebook; Thundercracker even refers to it as "home, sweet home!"
Predacon's depiction as a mad scientist comes from his More than Meets the Eye profile, which showed how he was attempting to graft organic tissue to mechanical Cybertronians. Notably, only one of his Mini-Con partners, Skid-Z, appears in this comic, with his own profile indicating that though he was eager to undergo Predacon's experiments, he was incompatible with the process. Predacon's other partner, the Autobot spy Side Burn, is missing; he was noted to be compatible, but unwilling to undergo experimentation. With his profile noting that he was always worried about Predacon finding out about him, this comic hints that he was eventually found out, and presumably, was one of the Mini-Cons experimented on by his former partner.
Skywarp's depiction as a ninja-like Decepticon with a serious, professional attitude comes from his More than Meets the Eye profile, which also noted that he was the cousin of Starscream. His teleportation abilities were, surprisingly, not mentioned in that profile; instead, the Cybertron toy bio for Skywarp gave him his classical powers.
This comic implies that the Energon Terrorcons were created via the experiments of Predacon upon Mini-Cons, turning them into animalistic, larger (but not quite full-sized) Transformers. Early production materials for Energon gave the origin of both the Terrorcons and the Omnicons as being evolved form of Mini-Cons, but the cartoon ultimately ignored this, giving their own separate origin for each subfaction. The Energon comic vaguely implied that the Omnicons were evolved Mini-Cons, but once again, the Terrorcons were unconnected to the small robots. And so the Terrorcons are finally given the origin they were originally meant to have!

Errors

Mini-Con is consistently spelt as "Minicon".

Other trivia

This comic replicates the pack-in mini-comics to the full degree, featuring a fairly simple story advertising then-current toys (specifically, the Timelines Skywarp toy). It also features a catalog in the back, showcasing all the Club-exclusive Timelines toys and the BotCon 2016 "Dawn of the Predacus" boxset, along with various comics, lithographs, and other items still available in the Club's store, replicating the graphics used by the catalogs of the orignal Armada mini-comics.
Notably, this is the first time in any fiction that the "Unicron Trilogy" versions of the original Decepticon jets are explicitly referred to as "Seekers".
According to the author, Thunderclash's absence is intended to give an origin to the Thunderclash that was slightly redecoed and packaged with the Universe Ramjet toy, the idea being Skywarp left him behind during the Unicron Battles, and Thunderclash was later abducted by Unicron and given to Ramjet.
