The Combatrons are a Predacon subgroup from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
"Hey, I am the leader, not you!"

The Combatrons (コンバットロン Konbattoron) are a group of Predacons who transform into military jet fighters and that's about all they have in common. Rather than act as a team of four who work together, they prefer to operate as two pairs who work separately. Starscream and BB are elitists with exacting standards and ambitious schemes, who can also combine, while Dirge and Thrust are unreliable slackers who can't take anything seriously. Each duo competes to outshine the other in the eyes of their Emperor of Destruction, and as a result, they tend to exert a greater effort in sabotaging each other than in engaging the enemy. As for the Maximals, they're perfectly happy to let the Combatrons cancel each other out in battle.

Exposure to Angolmois Energy reformatted the Combatrons into the Cyborg Beasts, freakish fusions of animal and machine that are more powerful than their former incarnations.

The Combatrons were under the command of Galvatron and Megastorm as they went to Gaia in order to drain the planet of its energy. The New Forces Arrive! The Predacons soon located a massive Gaian computer, and used its data to scan themselves alternate modes based on weapons from Gaia's past. The Combatrons took the forms of various jet fighters (or in BB's case, a stealth bomber). White Lion, Run!

Eventually, the Combatrons were all upgraded into Cyborg Beasts.

The Predacons built the Galvatron Dekazura Tank to attack the Lio Convoy Unit and their base. Dirge drove the tank, Thrust kept track of the radar, Starscream and BB provided defense by means of the mounted guns in the tank's eyes, and Megastorm held the role of captain. Poor communication between Dirge and Thrust allowed the Maximals to get the drop on them and although the tank was well-fortified, Starscream and BB failed to keep Tasmania Kid out. The Maximals got the upper hand soon after that and the operation officially came to an end when Megastorm hit the tank's self-destruct button. Demolish the Superdreadnought Tank! Shortly after, the Combatrons assisted the Autorollers in building a frontline base. Infiltrate the Mystery Island! Dirge and Thrust learned about Scylla's and Bighorn's wedding and reported this to Galvatron. On his orders, the Combatrons and other Predacons attacked the ceremony in hopes of getting all Maximals at once. Scuba, Bighorn, and Scylla jointly forced them to retreat. Realize the Forbidden Love! Trying deceit for a change, the Predacons built what looked like an Angolmois Energy-powered missile base but was in truth a facility of no use but to lure the Maximals into a trap. When they arrived, the Combatrons and other Predacons were waiting and made short work of the Maximals until Star Upper turned the tide. Make a Surprise Attack on the Super Weapon Base!

On a day like any other, Gigastorm had the Combatrons running to bring him cups of oil as big as their bodies. While the oil was of the finest grade, the Combatrons had not infused it with Angolmois Energy as Gigastorm had ordered because they didn't have any. This enraged Gigastorm and he pushed them into a nearby hole with the instruction to fetch him Angolmois Energy from down below. The Combatrons landed in what they thought was a hot spring but was actually an Angolmois Energy Processing Site. Believing they deserved a break, they stayed and were consequently changed into the Cyborg Beasts. Recover the Bonds Lost!

The Combatrons are redecos of Generation 2 and Machine Wars toys. Starscream and BB were sold together as an Ultra Class package, whilst Dirge and Thrust were sold separately as Basics Class toys. The four Combatrons did not share any specific gimmicks, although Starscream and BB could combine while Dirge and Thrust were flipchangers.
Starscream and BB were also released as a two-pack in Korea by Sonokong in their Beast-War line and later re-released in new packaging as Stealth Saber and Victory Bomber, respectively in their Car Bot line.
