When the burden of leadership grows too great to bear, Black Rodimus Convoy is born!

Synopsis

[edit]

Within an abandoned Decepticon base, as a mysterious voice speaks inside his mind, Rodimus Prime approaches a device that the disembodied voice calls a clone synthesizer. A black version of Hot Rod bursts from within the machine and tackles Rodimus, mockingly calling himself the answer to the Autobot leader's prayers: someone who can take the weight of leadership off his shoulders and bear it for him. The clone tears the Matrix of Leadership from Rodimus, and is transformed through its power into Black Rodimus Convoy, daring Rodimus—now Hot Rod once again—to take it back from him if he changes his mind...

Notes

[edit]
  • This bilingual two-page comic was printed in a booklet packaged with the Black Rodimus Convoy toy, which also included a bio for the character. The booklet drops the numbering system the three previous eHobby exclusives that came with exclusive comics were using. It also drops the hilarious mangling of English the three previous comics subjected their dialogue to, featuring a properly vetted translation.
  • The expanded bio for Black Rodimus Convoy published on the eHobby website details the events that lead up to the beginning of this story. It establishes that Black Rodimus Convoy began life as Rodimus Prime's own dark thoughts, borne of his doubts at being chosen as Autobot leader, which eventually took on a life of their own. The transplantation of this formless entity into a clone body was the work of Starscream's ghost; the bio describes Rodimus as being lured to the Decepticon base by a voice in his head, blanketed in a white light, and returning to his senses to find the clone synthesizer had been activated, strongly suggesting that Starscream briefly possessed the Autobot leader and used his body to turn the machine on.
  • The Decepticon base and the clone synthesizer were previously seen in the Generation 1 cartoon episode "A Prime Problem".
  • It is noted that Rodimus has seen the clone synthesizer before; as he was not around yet when "A Prime Problem" happened, this must be an allusion to his other evil clone, Dark Hot Rod, who was created by Megatron at some point before Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime. The precise method for Megatron's creation of Dark Hot Rod was never detailed, with this story retroactively indicating that the clone synthesizer was used.
