You are one your way to visit your Uncle Jack and Aunt Sue, adventurous globe-trotting astronomers, at the secluded Los Palmos observatory. Uncle Jack picks you up from the airport, but appears distracted by some calculation or problem. While he stops for gas on his way to the observatory, you notice a brilliant red light in the sky.
You tell Uncle Jack about the red light you've spotted.
Uncle Jack becomes very much alarmed by what you've seen and tells you he will go check on the observatory alone. He is quite clearly worried that your aunt might be in danger. He leaves you under the supervision of Olaf, the owner of the petrol station, for the next hour or so. Once Uncle Jack has taken off, Olaf tells you not to worry, and busies himself with repairing his trucks after giving you a Coke.

You wait for hours with no sign of Uncle Jack returning. While Olaf is taking a nap, you are surprised to see a driverless white Porsche draw into the station.
Your amazement grows as you hear a voice coming from the car. The voice tells you to get in, as trouble is coming this way. You accuse someone of hiding in the car at first, pulling a prank on you, but the empty car assures you it is being serious. Sure enough, there is no one inside the vehicle.page 7
You realize the Porsche itself is alive, as you notice a microphone set into the dashboard from which the voice has been coming from. The car presses you into climbing in, and you do so, noting the urgency in the voice. Once you're inside, the car begins driving towards the mountain observatory your Uncle headed towards. The car introduces itself as Jazz, an Autobot on a special mission for Optimus Prime. Jazz tells you that, in a way, you are now on the mission as well. Before you can being asking questions, the observatory comes into view. Uncle Jack's car is idle in the middle of the road, the door ajar. There is no sign of Uncle Jack anywhere.
Jazz agrees that the abandoned vehicle bears investigating. Stopping short a few feet from it, Jazz begins to scan the area with his sensors. Jazz then thanks you for stopping him when you did, as he has detected a null-field nearby, probably what caused your uncle's car to go dead. Jazz then tells you he needs you to step outside, as he needs to change to shield himself from the null-field. Moments later, Jazz stands next to you in his robot form. page 9
Jazz tells you his newly assumed shape is his true form, and that the evil Decepticons, just like Autobots like himself, can assume such disguises to blend in on Earth. You both come to the conclusion that Uncle Jack must have headed for the observatory on foot once his car shut down due to the null-field. Jazz suggest it might be safer for you to wait here while he investigates the observatory.
Jazz vanishes out of sight for a few moments, then reappears accompanied by Uncle Jack. The two of them appear to be getting along well. Your uncle addresses you, and says he hopes you weren’t too scared by his disappearance. Jazz informs the both of you that it would be best to head to the observatory immediately. page 22
As the three of you near the observatory, you spot your aunt hurrying towards you. Uncle Jack introduces Jazz, and Aunt Sue admits her relief to see you and your Uncle unharmed. The lot of you head into the observatory, and Jazz tells you he is going to explain his mission.page 26
Once next to the massive telescope inside the observatory, Jazz turns to your uncle and asks him if he has witnessed anything strange recently. Uncle Jack tells Jazz that while he was observing the Farouki cluster last night, he saw a bright red light flash in the sky, and the instruments in the observatory went haywire shortly thereafter. A similar incident happened this morning. Jazz comes to the conclusion that this means the deadliest Decepticon of them all, Starscream is involved.page 28
Jazz briefly recounts the history of the Transformers, and the two warring factions, Autobots and Decepticons. He then explains that millions of years ago, a space pod containing many powerful weapons was launched from Cybertron when it passed closely to Earth. The space pod had been drifting around the Sun's orbit since then, but both Jazz and Starscream learned of its existence recently. Obviously, Starscream hopes to acquire the weapons for himself.

Jazz tells you that Starscream is the most powerful and cruelest Decepticon, armed with cluster bombs and disruptive null-rays. He then explains that Starscream has most likely set up the null-field around the observatory, to prevent anyone interfering with his plans, whatever they may be. Jazz then takes a moment to ponder on what might be Starscream's next move. page 32
Jazz suddenly asks if you would like to listen to some Earth music, and loudly blares a tune from his built-in speakers. Both you and your Uncle Jack must cover your ears to block out the sudden cacophony, but Aunt Sue appears to not mind. Jazz then turns down the music, apologizing that he constantly forgets that humans cannot tolerate the same level of decibels as Transformers can. With everything quiet, you hear the sound of a jet engine approaching in the distance. page 33
Jazz also hears the distant sound, and informs you that it is Starscream. Jazz wonders why, however, Starscream is approaching at sub-sonic speed. You hear another engine approaching, and suggest that Starscream might be going slower so the second Decepticon can keep up pace. Jazz agrees with your theory. Jazz then adds that he has noticed that your Aunt Sue is acting very strangely for an Earth person… You turn to see her pointing a gun towards you. Both you and your uncle are shocked by this development, and Jazz informs you she must be under the mind-control of Bombshell, another Decepticon, who is beaming commands into a Cerebro-shell implanted earlier into Aunt Sue's head. Aunt Sue orders Jazz to surrender, or else she will open fire on Uncle Jack.
Have you deactivated the null-field device? If so, go topage 35
Your aunt is almost like a sleepwalker while under mind control, and does not notice you take out the null-field generator from your pocket and reconnect the aerial. Directing the device's rays towards Aunt Sue's head, she exits her trance and lowers her weapon. Jazz then quickly moves to destroy the cerebro-shell, calibrating his photon rifle to fry the device without causing harm to Aunt Sue. Jazz then notices that the sound of Starscream's engine has stopped… page 37
Jazz realizes that this signifies that Starscream has gone to super-sonic speed, and tells everyone to get down. The side of the observatory explodes in Starscream's wake, and the Decepticon transforms to robot mode and lands inside the observatory. Bombshell then appears over the hole created by Starscream, and lingers in the air in his insect mode, knowing that it frightens you. page 38
While Bombshell guards the four of you, Starscream marches over to the telescopes. He tells Jazz, as he's sure the Autobot has guessed, he is after the weapons pod. He quickly spots the pod, drifting near the asteroid belt. Starscream then takes out a homing beacon that will call the pod down to Earth, causing it to crash down with al the destructive power of a meteor. Starscream and Bombshell intend to watch it come down from a safe distance when it impacts the observatory. Starscream then orders Bombshell to enslave you, your aunt and your uncle, and destroy Jazz!

As Bombshell begins to transform into his robot mode, he takes little notice of the humans, focusing instead on Jazz. Taking advantage of this, you throw the Cerebro-shell towards Bombshell, and it lands on the back of his neck. Starscream has noticed that you threw something, and tells Bombshell as much. Turning towards you, he threatens to turn you into one of his puppets and activates his controlling signal. page 42
The Cerebro-shell that you've thrown onto Bombshell has activated, and begins to send off confusing messages. The effect is like feedback on a stereo system, and Bombshell loses control over his limbs. Jazz then blasts the Insecticon with a burst of high frequency noise. Bombshell is terrified by this turn of events, and reverts back to his insect mode to scuttle away. page 43
Starscream glances upwards, and spots the tiny speck of light that signifies the weapons pod has entered Earth's atmosphere. Jazz prepares to unleash his flamethrower onto the two Decepticons, but is stunned by a concussive blast, courtesy of Starscream. Starscream then transforms and begins to take off, saying he does not wish to be around when the weapons pod reduces this place to rubble. You spot the homing beacon on the floor.

Luck is with you today as the device drops into one of Starscream's air intakes and catches there. Starscream fails to notice you doing this and takes to the air. The weapons pod streaks downwards, and swerves in the air to follow Starscream. page 45
The weapons beacon crashes into the wing of the astonished Starscream. Any normal plane would crash as a result of this, but Starscream manages to stay aloft thanks to his mastery of flight, and glides away. page 47
Jazz steps towards Bombshell. The newly recovered Insecticon does not wish to take on Jazz alone, takes off at the sight of Jazz's flamethrower, and follows Starscream into the air. page 68
The Decepticons' plot has been thwarted, and you uncle and aunt are unharmed. Even though the observatory's dome was shattered by Starscream, the priceless telescope within is undamaged. The rest of the equipment can easily be replaced or repaired. Your uncle, your aunt and yourself spend the whole night talking with Jazz, who nearly overcomes you with all the fantastic tales he has about his race, his home world and all of the marvellous adventures they go on. When dawn comes, you say goodbye to your new friend, happy to have helped him in his struggled against the evil Decepticons.
Jazz tells you to give him the device, and he crushes it in the palm of his hand. Without the beacon telling it where to go, the weapons pod spins out of control and screeches overhead. Jazz calculates that it will land somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, where Starscream will never be able to find it. page 68
You keep quiet about having the homing beacon in your pocket.
Which is unfortunate, since that is exactly what Jazz is looking through the debris for. The weapons pod streaks downwards, about to destroy the observatory, to say nothing of the humans inside it. For you, it looks like this is…
Jazz aims his photon rifle towards Bombshell when the Insecticon steps forward, prompting Bombshell to ask Starscream for assistance. Starscream belittles Bombshell for being afraid of Jazz, who he says is hardly the strongest amongst the Autobots. Nonetheless, Starscream moves to help out his lackey. Jazz then suddenly jumps back and presses a button behind him. This triggers the telescope's mechanisms, and drop the large apparatus onto Bombshell, pining him to the floor. page 43
Jazz unleashes a blinding pulse of light, causing everyone to shield their eyes. Taking advantage of the confusion, Jazz grabs your aunt before she can fire her weapon. Though she struggles, she can't escape Jazz's grip. Jazz then locates the Cerebro-shell controlling her, and deftly removes it with the help of a laser beam from his rifle. Jazz then crushes the Cerebro-shell underfoot.Your aunt is relieved to be freed of Bombshell's mind control. Outside, the sound of Starscream's jet engines build before cutting out, leaving only the hum of Bombshell's engines approaching. page 37
You ask Jazz what all of this has to do with the observatory.
Jazz informs you that Starscream is in the need of a powerful telescope to locate the weapons pod in space. He dares not use the telescopes located at Decepticon headquarters, as it would alert his fellow Decepticons to his plans. With the help of the weapons within the pod, Starscream hopes to take over leadership of the Decepticons from the current leader, Megatron. Jazz then says he must take a moment to calculate Starscream's probable course of action. page 32
Jazz doesn't argue, though he advises you to steer near him for safety. Jazz then pulls out a strange rifle and begins to stride forwards. You ask Jazz what might be generating the null-field. Jazz does not know for sure, but he suspects that it may have something to do with a particularly powerful enemy of his. Then, you catch movement out of the corner of your eye. Someone is hiding behind a nearby boulder, but Jazz is too busy keeping his sensors shielded from the null-field to notice it.

The narrow beam of light that streams forth from Jazz's weapons shatters the boulder to pieces, knocking back the man hiding behind the boulder. Approaching the unconscious man, you notice that he was armed. Jazz turns him so he faces up, and you recognize the man as Uncle Jack! page 17
Jazz lifts Uncle Jack up in his mighty arms, and you set off towards the observatory. As you near the building, your Aunt Sue runs out, asking what happened to Jack breathlessly. Jazz informs her that Jack is not badly damaged, and they should let him rest in the shade. Jazz then brings your uncle into the observatory. You and your aunt follow. page 19
Jazz gently lays down Uncle Jack onto a couch. Your aunt then proceeds to dress Uncle Jack's minor wounds before addressing you and Jazz. She expresses over the overall situation, prompting Jazz to introduce himself. Jazz then says he will explain things further once Uncle Jack has regained consciousness, and goes outside to have a look around.
You ask Jazz to wait for you as you follow him outside.
You tell Jazz that you don't know what he's looking for, but he’ll have better luck finding it if two people are looking for it. Jazz admits that your argument is logical, and explains he is looking for the device that powers the null-field, or one of them at least. There are probably many of such devices in the nearby vicinity. You conclude that the device is what caused your Uncle Jack's car to falter, and ask Jazz why anyone might want to set up such a field. Jazz explains that someone is trying to make sure their evil plan carries itself out without interference, and he suspects he knows who is behind it all… He then points out a small metal box to you; a null-field generator. But Jazz cannot approach it further without risking damaging his circuitry.
With the null-field generator now out of commission, Jazz congratulates you on a job well done, and proceeds to completely obliterate the device's remains with his foot. page 25
Jazz then picks you up and carries you back to the observatory as night begins to fall. Jazz then thinks aloud how strange it is that your aunt was not surprised upon seeing him. Surely, she can't be used to the sight of giant alien robots? You simply assumed she was too worried about your Uncle Jack to think about anything else. Once you get back to the observatory, you are happy to see that Uncle Jack has regained consciousness, and looks none worse for wear aside from a bandage around his head. Uncle Jack apologies to Jazz, explaining that things around here have been strange, and upon seeing him assumed that he was an enemy. Jazz suggests they all go up to the observatory's dome, where he will explain who the true enemy is. page 26
You explain this might be a better idea than simply blowing it up to Jazz, and he lowers his photon rifle. The device is simple enough to disarm, and once it has been rendered harmless, you carry it back to Jazz. Jazz congratulates you for your bright idea, and suggests you keep it on your person, as it might come in handy later. page 25
You stay at the side of your aunt and uncle as Jazz wanders outside.
You observe Jazz searching the grounds from a distance, but he does not seem to be having any luck finding whatever it is he's looking for. Uncle Jack then stirs from his slumber, and asks what's happened. As Jazz walks back into the observatory, you introduce him to your uncle. Jazz comforts Uncle Jack, telling him there is no reason to be alarmed, and suggests that they go up to the observatory's dome, where he will explain in greater detail what is going on. page 26
Just as you near the boulder, Uncle Jack steps out from behind it, and points a revolve towards Jazz. Waving the weapon menacingly, he orders Jazz to let you go free. Jazz informs your uncle that you are not his captive, but his friend. You step towards your uncle, but he still appears confused. He levels the revolver towards Jazz, and you are sure he is about to open fire.
You knock your uncle's hand away to stop him from shooting Jazz.
As you do so, you insist that Jazz is indeed here to help. Uncle Jack’s shot misses its mark and hits a boulder instead. Uncle Jack apologizes to Jazz, admitting that he might be too confused to think clearly. Jazz says that he understands, and that they should head for the observatory, where he will explain in detail what is happening. page 22
You had already assumed that the revolver would not be powerful enough to harm Jazz, and you are right. The bullet ricochets off the robot, not even scratching his paint job. But the rebounding bullet grazes your Uncle’s head, knocking him unconscious. Both you and Jazz are momentarily at his side, where Jazz informs you that he does not appear to be badly hurt. page 17
You tell Jazz to continue towards the observatory.
As Jazz passes your uncle's car, he yelps out in pain, and sparks begin to fly out of his circuitry. Jazz berates himself for having recklessly charged into what turned out to be a null-field. This field had knocked out the ignition in your uncle's car, and now has burned out Jazz's vital circuits, preventing him from transforming into his robot mode. Before you can ask what any of this means, you spot something up ahead that drives all other thoughts from your mind. page 48
Two giant robots stand before the observatory, herding your aunt and uncle inside of it. Judging from everybody's body language, you can tell the robots are up to no good. Jazz informs you that the robots are called Starscream and Bombshell, and since Jazz can't transform into his own robot mode, it will be difficult to fight them off.

Jazz is enthusiastic about this plan. As soon as Starscream has taken your aunt and uncle inside the observatory, Jazz screeches forwards and tackles Bombshell before the later can react. Jazz’s attack buckles one of Bombshell's legs, damaging the wing case for his alternate mode. Before Bombshell can recover from the attack, Jazz shifts gears to reverse, and speeds back along the road. Though Bombshell launches some explosive salvos, Jazz is too fast to be hit by the Insecticon's counter-attack. page 58
Jazz has decided not to push his luck, as he has no hope of beating Starscream while trapped in his vehicle mode. Although you are still confused about the whole situation, at the very least you are now positive that Jazz is one of the good guys, and that Bombshell and Starscream intend to harm your aunt and uncle. You suggest to Jazz that he should return to Olaf's petrol station, where the mechanic might be able to fix Jazz up. When you return at the petrol station, you find Olaf still dozing in the shade. You attempt to wake him up to no avail. Jazz says he will wake Olaf with his own methods, and suggests you cover your ears. page 54
With a piercing wail from his loudspeakers, Jazz manages to rouse Olaf from his slumber. Once that task is accomplished, you and Jazz manage, though with some difficulty, to convince Olaf that Jazz is a robot in disguise. Olaf finds the burnt out circuits that prevent Jazz from transforming, and replaces them. His transformation abilities returned to him, Jazz assumes the form of a mighty robot. page 62
Both you and Olaf are astounded by Jazz's appearance. You remind Jazz that your aunt and uncle are still in peril, and the two of you set off towards the observatory once more. Before you leave, Olaf tells Jazz that he didn't do much more than a patch-up job, and that Jazz should avoid transforming too much before he can be more properly repaired. Jazz tells you that his friends Hoist and Ratchet will be able to repair him properly once he gets back to the Ark, but he has no time to head back there right now. Jazz asks you whether he should transform to his vehicle mode and drive to the observatory, even though it might mean risking being trapped in that mode once more, or should he remain in robot mode, even though it means it will take longer to reach the observatory?

You quickly become exhausted by the hike, so Jazz perches you onto his shoulder. Even though Jazz's large legs allow him to cover a significant distance quickly, night falls before you reach the observatory. Once there, you can hear Starscream's angry voice emanating from inside. page 65
You and Jazz crouch close to the observatory's entrance, and hear Starscream explaining his plan to your Uncle Jack. The Decepticon is after a weapons pod that was launched from the planet Cybertron millions of years ago, and has been orbiting the Sun since then. Thanks to the observatory's telescope, Starscream has managed to locate the long-though lost pod. Now Starscream plans to use it to rule over both Transformers and humans alike! Jazz turns to you and confirms that Starscream's ramblings speak the truth. The two of you must move to stop the evil robot's machinations. page 66
You and Jazz cautiously ascend the steps towards the observatory's dome, but are spotted by Starscream. As soon as Starscream notices your presence, he pulls out a metallic sphere and presses a stud on the side of it. Starscream tells Jazz that he is too late; Starscream has just activated a homing beacon that will cause the weapons pod to leave its orbit and come crashing down towards the Earth. He then orders Bombshell to destroy Jazz. page 67
Bombshell is guarding your aunt and uncle, who seem frightened but unhurt. Bombshell limps forwards due to the damage he sustained earlier. But Jazz is prepared to take him on, and creates a burst of blinding light and a blast of ultrasound that causes Bombshell to stagger in pain and confusion. page 43
You suggest to Jazz he change into his vehicle form, despite the risk, to reach the observatory quickly.
Although he is reluctant at first, you point out that going to the observatory at all will serve little purpose if you arrive too late to stop the Decepticons' plans. Jazz transforms into his Porsche mode, and you hop in. He darts up the road towards the observatory with more skill and speed than any human being could possess. Once he reaches your uncle's car, he resumes his robot form to shield his circuits from the null-field. Night is falling. From inside the observatory's dome, you can hear the voice of Starscream. page 65
You suggest to Jazz that he should drive away, considering the circumstances.
Jazz dislikes the idea of running away, but he must admit that his battle capabilities are compromised at the moment. Jazz attempts to move away as quietly as he can, but Bombshell takes notice and yells out to warn Starscream of your presence. Bombshell then transforms into his robotic beetle mode, and flies towards you at high speed.

Jazz quickly screeches to a halt, but Bombshell is unable to turn on a dime in the air, and overshoots Jazz by quite some distance. Jazz then launches a lance of laser-light from one of his headlights, damaging Bombshell’s wing-case. Bombshell is unable to stay airborne, and drops to the ground. Jazz then speeds off down the hill. page 58
You sneak off and start to walk towards the observatory.
As you walk in the scorching mid-afternoon heat, a white Porsche pulls up beside you. You expect to see a friendly face inside, offering you a welcomed lift, but instead see that the car is empty! page 6
Your Uncle Jack returns to the car, and the two of you start driving towards the observatory. Suddenly, the engine sputters to a halt, to your uncle's confusion. At that moment, a sleek Porsche pulls up besides you… one that seems to be moving on it own accord! page 61
The Porsche informs the both of you that it is in reality an Autobot named Jazz. He explains that your car has been immobilized by a null-field. The car then transforms into a robot armed with a laser rifle. Jazz explains to your uncle the he has to assume his robot form to shield himself from the null-field's effects. He then tells the both of you that you'll have to proceed on foot. page 22
If you choose the ending where you throw the homing beacon at Starscream, there is no mention of the weapons pod after it smashes through his wing though presumably it must have come down nearby; likewise if the pod crashes into the Pacific no mention is made of an attempt to retrieve or secure it.
Starscream appears to be missing a hand in the illustration on page 31.
And an arm in the illustration on page 49.
Despite them being described as such, Bombshell's wing casings are never drawn open when he is flying.
If you throw the homing beacon at Starscream on page 44, you are described as being "too insignificant to matter" and so he fails to notice you. However on page 39, when you throw a cerebro-shell at Bombshell, Starscream sees you immediately and warns the Insecticon.
On page 28, Jazz describes Starscream as being the most powerful and cruellest Decepticon. While the latter might be debatable, it seems unlikely that Starscream would be considered more powerful than Megatron.
