Sex and Gender and Giant Robots

D'OOOH!!
[edit]Surprise surprise, another Arcee toy cancelled. I'm beginning think Hasbro's designers might have some horrid sexuality issues. --86.87.28.191 17:11, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- All you've shown is that preorders are canceled. This is often done when the release date changes.--RosicrucianTalk 17:12, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- It is also done when a cartoon and toyline are canceled. ;) -Derik 17:45, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

- Because it's not just a river in Egypt. -Derik 17:52, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- And now we have confirmation that the toy will be produced. Don't we feel silly now?--RosicrucianTalk 18:36, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
- Because it's not just a river in Egypt. -Derik 17:52, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- Which the link provided does not indicate. Hasbro has made the investment in the tooling of this figure and at present we only know that it will not make its existing release date. I mean come on, we don't go crazy over scoops otherwise, why should the wiki compromise its principles here?--RosicrucianTalk 17:53, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

We need an "Unproduced Arcee toys" article. -Derik 18:07, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- 1: They are long past their release date. 2: Not even a leaked sample yet (which i know, we wouldn't acknowldge anyway, but that's beside the point), and 3: The preceding wave's cancellation also turned out to be not just about pre-orders.--86.87.28.191 18:18, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- 4: Hasbro promotional photos and an official press release/solicit for the figure. Which in this case is the only thing that matters. We are not great internet detectives piecing together some sort of conspiracy, and we are generally much more conservative than most of the news sites regarding what we consider an admissible source.--RosicrucianTalk 19:28, 21 May 2009 (EDT)
- How did we ever source all the other cancelled toys on the wiki, then? Does Hasbro ever come out and outright say that toys have been cancelled? Or is it sort of a, "Well, it's been n years since the toy was supposed to come out, safe to call it cancelled now" sort of thing?
- Plus... if people are receiving e-mails from the TFCC, isn't the fanclub usually considered an official source? --Jeysie 08:25, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
- Little of Column A, little of Column B. Word from Hasbro that a toy is canceled is usually sufficient. In older cases, enough time has elapsed that the leaked info is no longer considered damaging -- say, after a franchise completes its run. -- Repowers 18:40, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
- Of course, in this particular case the news was premature.--RosicrucianTalk 18:42, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

Thumb Issue
[edit]I've heard reports that the thumbs on the Arcee toy break pretty easily. I haven't seen any wear on mine, but I been treating it very delicately. I guess it should be held from the page until more solid verifcation is seen, but I do think people should be warned to be careful with the toy anyway. Riddlerj 22:08, 20 March 2010 (EDT)
I didn't have a chance to pick one up but the reviews I saw of it made a point that the swords seem to have to slide in a certain way... and if you don't then they risk breaking. Were the reviews I saw wrong?
- This was discussed earlier- check the comments in the "Knee/Calf Problems" below. - Ayellowbirds 10:36, 19 July 2010 (EDT)
Knee/Calf Problems
[edit]Just opened and transformed mine for the first time, and I notice that the peg on the back of her right knee joint- where it's supposed to slot to the larger portion of the lower leg -doesn't seem to fit into its intended hole. The tightness of the remaining joints means that this isn't much of an issue for display/play, so I'm cool with it, but I'm wondering: is this is a common enough problem to mention in the article? -- Ayellowbirds 15:23, 8 April 2010 (EDT)
- It's there because the tabs on her knees are offset from each other so they interlock in vehicle mode. The resulting slight tilt to the back of her right leg is annoying, and might have been fixed by elongating the corresponding slot on that half of the car hood a bit, but it's a minor design flaw at best, not a quality control issue.--Apcog 10:57, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- I kind of get the feeling that this figure would have benefited from a slightly longer development. Aside from this problem with the knee, her swords don't fit in their storage slots very tightly and her spoiler fins don't stay on very well. None of which are major problems, but all of which should have been better thought out. --Khajidha 16:13, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- I'd say 24 years was long enough, thank you, lol. - Semysane 16:46, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- Yeah, that's the reason I'm not more upset with the figure. Now I just need some sort of mass release Kup homage figure. I've got the Classics Rodimus and Magnus, Cybertron and Animated Blurrs to chose from, and the Universe Springer. Come on Hasbro.--Khajidha 17:13, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- The swords store quite firmly on the one I have, though it takes a bit of effort to work them into the slots. The fins do pop off easily, true. Big problem I've heard of (and which mine shares) is rapidly developing stress marks inside the fists.--Apcog 17:56, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- Mine just rattle around loosely. --Khajidha 18:03, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- You really have to push them in there hard to get them to click, at least the first few times. They actually fit TOO tightly, in my opinion. The amount of force I needed to use to get them to fit made me worry that they'd break. As to stress marks, there's a lot of forum postings out there of people tossing back and forth solutions like filing the handles to be thinner, and using blow dryers or other heat sources to undo the stress marks on the hands. Nothing I've experimented with myself, mind. -- Ayellowbirds 02:02, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
- Wow! FINALLY got the swords to click into place. That is just TOO tight. Khajidha 14:51, 11 April 2010 (EDT)

Scalping
[edit]Okay, before a revert war gets on in earnest, are we sure the scarcity is due to scalping and not just legitimate demand outstripping supply? I mean, people have basically been waiting for this for 24 years, lots of people who wouldn't ordinarily buy an Animated figure will be looking for this one. --Khajidha 03:27, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
- I've not heard anything that would relate Arcee's scarcity directly to scalping. --Detour 04:12, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
- I don't want to pull that "I know a guy who knows a guy" crap, but the friend who got me an employee's discount on the Arcee I'm holding right now says that the store is just reluctant to put out new figures like the TRU exclusives when there's still so much other stuff sitting unsold on the pegs.
- Can someone pull up a link that can be put in for a footnote on this? Maybe the wording should be changed to emphasize that people believe it's due to scalping. Scarcity of a store exclusive from a canceled line doesn't seem all that odd to me, but if people are widely asserting this, then I suppose we should at least recognize the belief. -- Ayellowbirds 11:42, 11 April 2010 (EDT)
- Has anyone seen a factory-new case of these? Are Arcee and Ratchet evenly packed, or is she shorted?--Buttbutt 01:22, 12 April 2010 (EDT)
- They are evenly packed. --ItsWalky 01:37, 12 April 2010 (EDT)
- So then it really is a faster sell-through that's creating this notion of rampant scalperism. Good to know. But still, just saying that people point to scalpers as a reason for her scarcity seems a bit too anecdotal for the article - after all, don't we say that about EVERY new toy? "Oh, I can't find Bludgeon because of scalpers." "I can't find Mindwipe because of scalpers." "I can't find (whatever) because of scalpers." It's never attributed to "wow, there are so many real fans around me!" Would every similar article deserve the same note until the subject reaches saturation? --Buttbutt 04:04, 12 April 2010 (EDT)

Japanese Arcee
[edit]So...does she has the same issues with her thumbs?ACIDSTORM92 18:34, 12 May 2010 (EDT)

Knee tab
[edit]Okay, MCRG reverted my earlier edit about the tab on the matte-finish Arcee. Looking at the two figures side by side, there does appear to be a change in the shape of the tab. The original is fully rectangular while the newer version has a corner cut off. It doesn't appear to be due to the flexibility of the plastic at all. Before I re-add the note I wanted to see if anyone else had examined the figures. Was there perhaps a multi-step change, plastic first and tab shape later? --Khajidha 00:38, 20 June 2010 (EDT)

- Okay, here's a good shot of the two tabs. Does anyone else's show this remolding? --Khajidha 20:34, 20 July 2010 (EDT)
Scarcity
[edit]Arcee (as well as Ratchet) are not only no longer a rare sight at TRU in my area, but they're actually shelfwarming. Even with regular sales, they're sticking on the pegs in relatively large numbers. Is this widespread enough to make it worth revising the article? - Ayellowbirds 10:36, 19 July 2010 (EDT)
- Ratchet's been shelfwarming (well, pegwarming) at my TRU (in Hickory, NC) since the beginning, Arcee's are still disappearing immediately. Multiple sales have not helped thin out the herd of Ratchets. --Khajidha 10:45, 19 July 2010 (EDT)
Japanese version different?
[edit]Can anyone amend the article to comment on whether the Japanese release of the figure has any differences in colour, leg-tabs, etc? Is it the same as the darker earlier or pinker later U.S. version, or is it a third colour entirely? An update would be much appreciated.
Comparison photo?
[edit]Can anyone please provide a comparison photo for the running change in the two U.S. versions, and preferably the Japanese version as well?
