Talk:Design flaw
What was the cause for Binaltech Prowl's side mirrors being prone to beaking off again? Clear plastic? Bad glue?--Nevermore 10:58, 16 September 2010 (EDT)
Eventually, if more people confirm it (besides LV and myself), PCC Mudslinger's thighs are REALLY flimsy and probably worth mentioning. -hx 11:28, 16 September 2010 (EDT)
Manufacturing error
[edit]There's a dead link in this article. What is a manufacturing error and how is it different from a misassembly (which supposedly is something different), and from a design flaw as well?--Nevermore 09:12, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
- Misassembly is putting things together wrongly, a design flaw is inherent in the mold, and a manufacturing error is an accidental malformation of the product. If an insufficient amount of plastic enters the mold, leaving a shriveled stump of a part, that would be a manufacturing error. Usually such substandard parts would be discarded, but occasionally one sneaks through. Hope this helps. --Khajidha 09:35, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
- So that would be something that's discussed under quality control, right? Just trying to figure out if there's atually a purpose for a separate "manufacturing error" article, or if the links could point to existing articles instead.--Nevermore 09:44, 18 September 2010 (EDT)
BW Drill Bit
[edit]This is a classic. The pegs that are supposed to connect the critter legs to the inside of the critter shell in beast mode were designed backwards. So they don't peg into anything. -hx 21:25, 19 September 2010 (EDT)
- Is that a misassembly or a design flaw?--Nevermore 16:23, 14 October 2010 (EDT)
- Design flaw; the pegs don't point backward so much as in the completely wrong direction. It's a big flaw, too, as the misdirected pegs interfere with transformation. --Salt-Man Z 16:56, 25 July 2011 (EDT)
- Also that lying Hasbro liar at BC97 totally lied and said there was nothing wrong with him and I was transforming him wrong! I'm pretty sure being told "you can't figure out Drill Bit" is one of the most insulting things you can say to a man. -LV 18:55, 25 July 2011 (EDT)
ROTF Leader Prime?
[edit]"Parts have to be moved out of the way to move other parts as intended" isn't quite the problem the other toys have. The problem is "parts cannot possibly be moved as intended due to other parts being permanently in the way".--Nevermore 14:39, 1 October 2011 (EDT)
Pics needed
[edit]Should we put "pics needed" for some examples to show readers? --TX55TALK 02:11, 22 February 2012 (EST)
- I know this is an old comment, but... except in very egregious cases (which ought to have been caught by anyone remotely competent at the prototype stage), you can't really tell a lot of these from a picture. If you're not familiar with a toy, it's far from obvious that one part is fragile or blocked.--Waverod ✈️ (talk) 22:20, 2 September 2018 (EDT)
Transmetal 2 Megatron
[edit]Has anyone else had the swivel joints in TM2 Megs' legs break apart? It seems like the joint is too tight and the plastic too thin. I could include a pic later. --King Starscream 15:04, 31 January 2013 (EST)
can't sit
[edit]i can't pose my BW Cheetor, Armada Super-Con Optimus, or Generations: Thrilling 30 Legends Class Megatron so they're sitting down. The front of Cheetor's robot mode thighs are too bulgy, and Optimus and Megatron look like they might be able to sit down if not for the greeble-like ornamentation on the front of their thighs. Anyone else have this problem? ("Anyone else" referring to TransFans or Transformers.) Is this problem considered a design flaw? Should this type of design flaw be noted in this article? --Rhymus (talk) 01:03, 19 April 2015 (EDT)
Too Much Pressure
[edit]Thinking here about toys where the design or the conversion process puts too much stress on parts which then fail - TF07 Beater Bumblebee has that geared transformation in the chest that breaks, Studio Series Optimus has that flimsy little tab holding the altmode’s grille together, etc. The tabs are too thin for the stresses they’re expected to manage. -hx (talk) 07:03, 23 February 2023 (EST)
