Isn't Soundwave a microcassette player, not a tape recorder? Also, the Cybertron version is in a separate universe. It may or may not be worth noting the Machine Wars and Universe versions. Monzo 10:28, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

He is a microcassette player -- his cassettes are clearly labeled as MC60, for example. However, the animated series shows him at a transformed scale that is consistent with a regular cassette player. I'm not sure where to make mention of this. --Infinata 23:34, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, Soundwave's character model shows up in Armada (and Beast Machines, for that matter). And while neither are clearly the actual dude, I think they're worth mentioning, long as "they're clearly not the actual dude" is stated. As for MW and TFU... well, the MW toy is blatabtly G1 Soundwave, and Starscream's e-hobby bio DOES pplace the Machine Wars in G1. TFU... worth NOTING, I think, making sure to state that there really is no fictional evidence that TFU Sounwave is G1 Soundy or even an alt-universe doppelganger, but that "alt-universe dollepganger" is the sfaest bet. - M "I Find That Holds True For Most TFU uys Who Never Got Fiction" Sipher

Cybertron Soundwave is awesome, nontheless. But the section was my bad, I added it before I realised this article was strictly meant for G1 Soundwave. Though I notice in Galaxy Force, there's a hint that it's "post G1". There's a brief shadowy shot of the Transformers taking the planet-keys for the Space Bridge in one of the episodes, and one of the Transformers taking a key is (or appears to be) G1 Optimus Prime!

So the UT possibly had it's own "G1 continuity" at some point. The only thing is, I haven't seen the equivalent episode in Cybertron yet, so this may only apply to Galaxy Force. - ttk

I'm fairly sure the Audio casette VA is John Braden. (Same guy seems to have written and produced them, it's probably safe to assuem he was the sole VA/narrator too.)

I feel as though people will think I'm just making UK-stuff italics all by myself without cause. For those who don't know, there was a discussion on this. For precedent, see the Roadhandler (G1) entry, and its accompanying discussion.--G.B. Blackrock 18:27, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Ummm I noticed in an episode of Galaxy Force, just before GF Soundwave makes his appearance, there is a scene where Noisemaze is listening to a G1 Soundwave. As in a Tape/Microtape player. That's alright to include in this profile, right? Since it is a G1 Soundwave.

Re: Soundwave's tape door

[edit]

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the VS-Y Soundwave used the Hasbro/Microchange style door rather than Takara's remold, but I don't remember where; can anybody back this up? (and if so, is it noteworthy enough to mention in the article?) - Ducktimus 08:18, 28 February 2007 (UTC) (I forgot to sign in)

So uh, is there a ANY evidence ANYWHERE that states just what the hell Soundwave turns into on Cybertron? A script, maybe? 'cause while I enjoy Lamp post, I'm hearing some pretty out there things from people. Not that I believe them. --Terrocon Blot 03:12, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Multi-linking to cassette articles

[edit]

In this edit SFH reverted a change I made earlier, such that the phrase "a legion of cassette troops" now multi-links to several cassette character articles. I disagree with this edit, but, rather than just revert it I figured I should post a comment to see if anybody has an opinion. I think that these multi-linked phrases are a bad idea in general because they obfuscate what is being linked to, as well as the fact that there is more than one link. I think they serve some practical use in snark articles, but should be avoided in general. In this particular case, I personally think it is more important that there be a link to Mini-Cassette than to any individual cassette's page, especially since the cassette article itself links to all of them. A "list of Soundwave's cassettes" could be added to this article, but, that would be redundant with the cassette article and I would prefer to avoid that. --Steve-o 21:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I just felt that it was a good way to get some of them linked into the article. If you feel that strongly about it, I wont revert it back. -- SFH 21:47, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Okey-doke. --Steve-o 22:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm with Steve. It's more important that we link to the Mini-cassette artical because that covers ALL of them, rather than the confusing and peacemeal way it is now. Change it.

Big Brother?

[edit]

While bored at work and idly poking around the wiki, I spotted that Trivia comment at the bottom about Soundwave's cassettes calling him "Big Brother." Out of idle curiosity, I'm wondering, did they call him "onii-san," or "aniki"? Just cause the latter can mean brother, but is also used in gang slang, where it means "boss," and that would make a lot more sense here... (Cancer, for example, called Wilder "aniki.") - Chris McFeely (not signed in)

Re: Various changes about what a good guy Soundwave and the Decepticons are

[edit]

Did we just get Raksha'ed? --FFN 16:09, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

More likely some impressionable soul who stumbled upon her site and took it as gospel. I doubt Raksha cares about our little wiki. -- Repowers 16:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Still, the link was... interesting.--RosicrucianTalk 16:36, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
I think even the most ardent G1 fans of the anti-movie variety would know that Decepticons = evil while Autobot = good. --FFN 16:38, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, and even the anti-hero presentation of the Decepticon movement in Megatron Origin still shows that Megatron and crew aren't exactly "good".--RosicrucianTalk 18:16, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Which is why I think we got Raksha'ed (or an elaborate prank to make us think so). I don't think anybody else holds such views, do they? --FFN 19:07, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
There are others. --ItsWalky 19:32, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Wow. --FFN 19:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Since the edits were from an Australian IP address it probably wasn't Raksha. --FortMax 21:05, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Cartoon section

[edit]

I think this needs a significant rewrite. It seems to be more about what he's like rather than what he did. Also, I want to add in the Madman comic story which is set firmly in the cartoon continuity, in the year 2001, so it's after Season 2, but before the movie. Derik suggested splitting the cartoon section up into season 1 & 2, put the Madman comic below that, then continue the movie and later seasons below Madman. Opinions? --FFN 15:30, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Anybody? --FFN 17:16, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I think Derik is full of sage advice, and should be followed at all times. -Derik 17:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but people here have a tendancy to spaz-out when you do something without their 2 cents, even if they never bothered to discuss it with you in the first place. So I want to get people's opinions before I make a significant change to the cartoon sections of several major characters, so I don't waste a bunch of time if somebody reverts my changes. --FFN 17:53, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Historically, we don't do "inquels" as actually interrupting the flow of a specific continuity. For example, to apply your suggestion to the Beast Wars, it'd look like this:
  • Marvel comic continuity, issue 1, up through page 6 or so
  • Beast Wars
  • Marvel comic continuity, issue 1, page 7, through issue 80
It might be a bad precedent, particularly if we get a lot of inquels in the future. Something I might get behind is putting in a note, which says, "The events of the Madman comic, below, take place at this point." JW 18:02, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
That sounds suspiciously like Derik's other proposed solution.
Again- filled with sage advice. (The sage covers the scent of bullshit.) -Derik 18:41, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
[raised eyebrow] Since I apparently didn't read the page on which this other proposed solution was mentioned, I was unaware our minds were following similar (brilliant) paths. JW 19:02, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I should point out that G1 Prime's article is already split up into several sections in his cartoon continuity - Season 1,2, Japanese off-screen crap, Movie, Season 3/4 (for some reason also called 2010. If this is not a good trend, then I suggest somebody do a MAJOR cleanup operation. --FFN 18:15, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm not big into that setup on Prime's page, to be honest. Since American and Japanese continuities have recently become very different animals courtesy of all the extra stuff that has been jammed into the five-year gap that doesn't exist in America, I'm inclined towards separate headers for "american animated continuity" and "Japanese animated continuity," and to go from there. I did this recently with... uh, something, but I forget what article it was... - Chris McFeely 20:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to point out that Beast Wars is set in its own G1 continuity that takes elements from both the comic and the cartoon. —Interrobang 19:17, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Yah, it was just an example. JW 19:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Dreamwave G1

[edit]

In the trivia section, it says Soundwave never said a word in Dreamwave outside The War Within, however, in the Prime Directive miniseries, he warns Megatron of an incoming nuclear missile. I can't remember exactly, but he may have said 'affirmative' or something like it earlier in the miniseries.--IWantTheirHeads 20:11, 29 November 2009 (EST)

Break Dancing Video

[edit]

I'm wondering if it would be a good bit of trivia to add the (surely at least infamous) video a fan made of Soundwave break dancing? The video is here and what I've thrown together as an idea for the trivia entry is here. I cobbled some from the mention of it in Soundwave's Wikipedia article, though I reworded it a little (like the robot really isn't "purely" white, for one thing).

Sound-Byte 01:17, 29 March 2010 (EDT)

Sorry, we don't cover fan-made stuff on the Wiki. --abates 01:18, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
Any mention of that video will be nuked from orbit, just to be sure. --ItsWalky 01:57, 29 March 2010 (EDT)
Could'a just left it at "no fan stuff on the Wiki". :) Sound-Byte 04:09, 29 March 2010 (EDT)

Emotions Deleted, Where?

[edit]

So Hasbro's hall of fame bio adds the bit about Soundwave deleting his emotional programing to process info clearer and faster. Would that go in the opening bio since it seems to be a blanket statement about him from Hasbro, or should it go in its own section under fiction? --76.28.76.206 14:19, 3 May 2010 (EDT)

That bio is pretty bizarre. They may have a picture of G1 Soundwave, but that bio isn't describing G1 Soundwave. It is like a mixture of all Soundwaves ever or something. The sonic attack thing is like ROTF Soundwave. The mysterious origin is like Cybertron Soundwave. There is also a little G1 Shockwave thrown in with having no emotions and stuff. I don't think that bio applies to G1 Soundwave. Maybe War for Cybertron Soundwave or something. - Starfield 14:36, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
It's more complicated than that. Hasbro views all Soundwaves as Soundwave, so this is Hasbro's view of every character that's ever been called Soundwave, if we want to get real about it. Via Hasbro's thinking, Animated and Cybertron Soundwave are the same "guy" as G1 Soundwave. They don't think along continuity family lines as the wiki does. This bio could also be influenced by Soundwave as he appears in Transformers: Prime. So I don't think we should start altering individual character pages yet. --ItsWalky 14:38, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
The bio card from HOC Soundwave says he views his minicassettes with "an almost paternal pride." Pride is totally an emotion. So it's a case of one Hasbro blurb contradicting another. Given how weird, poorly-written, and frankly uninformative this new one is, I see no reason to make it his new default, from-the-start description. --Thylacine 2000 14:45, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
I would suggest a new "Hall of Fame bio" fiction section. --KilMichaelMcC 16:07, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
On which page? All Soundwaves? --ItsWalky 16:11, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
If we're going to add the bio information anywhere, I vote we might as well put it on the Hall of Fame page itself.
(Since Walky has a point... this isn't really a bio for G1 Soundwave from Hasbro's POV, it's a bio for all Soundwaves as a singular entity.) --Jeysie 16:23, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
Heh, that kinda fits with the all-multiverse Starscream gestalt Tak-Tomy gave us in their fiction recently. In a bizzar and coincidental sorta way.--76.28.76.206 17:57, 3 May 2010 (EDT)

Transformers PS2 game

[edit]

Much as I appreciate someone tackling the Japanese game, isn't that section getting ridiculously wordy? And it's not even done yet? --Xaaron 14:08, 13 December 2010 (EST)

I mentioned this to the editor. Problem is basically arising from the fact he appears to literally be chronicling the implications of every line of dialogue Soundwave speaks. Suggested I'd pare it down after he finished. - Chris McFeely 14:48, 13 December 2010 (EST)

Can someone tell me exactly how his voice was created? Post on my personal talk page please.

New mainpic?

[edit]

The Roche pic is lovely, but it's a little murky and doesn't really accentuate Soundwave's color scheme. It's also already his mainpic for the IDW section and I feel like there has to be plenty of images out there that represent the most common appearance of G1 Soundwave. I didn't want to just up and change it without discussion, so if anyone has any suggestions or just want to tell me I'm crazy... --Nu-Priest (talk) 13:45, 1 February 2019 (EST)

Man, this has become a white whale for me. It's still bothering me that I can't find a worthy official piece of art of G1 Soundwave for a new mainpic. There's some nice, bright blue Dan Khanna-drawn commissions of him, but I'm uncertain of their actual "official-ness", if they were ever made into posters or something like that. Other pictures from various artbooks I've seen are either crowded with all his cassettes or drawn by Pat Lee. There's GOTTA be a good picture of G1 Soundwave out there, preferably Floro Dery-ized style, with maybe one or two of his more famous cassettes at MOST, but I haven't found it yet. What about the Japanese file cards for his various reissues or his Masterpiece? Anyone have any ideas, suggestions? Or again, think I'm crazy for wanting this? --Nu-Priest (talk) 11:30, 14 June 2021 (EDT)
