Why do we need to differentiate live-action Autobots from the rest?--RosicrucianTalk 21:03, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- The template differentiates the live-action Autobot faction symbol from the rest. It still points to Autobot. --FortMax 21:14, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- Yes, but I still don't see the need in re-templating all movie Autobots, and if we're going to do this we may as well for Decepticons as well.--RosicrucianTalk 21:21, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- It's hard to find a good Decepticon symbol. - Starfield 21:26, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- If we were going to do this for both, then logically we'd use the gray symbols... not a simple black one. (The symbol isn't 'actually' black after all, it'r rendered as gray with red or purple/blue highlights. You know-- except the times the autobot symbol is blue and the decepticon symbol purple, which seemed to happen for a lot of the first movie stuff.) Either way, it's not really a "different" symbol like g1/g2 is... it's just a different look for the same symbol.
- OTOH, the Decepticon symbol WAS tweaked, with slantier eyes. :p -Derik 21:43, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- The Autobot symbol was changed, too (slightly). The forehead is slightly larger than the rest of the face, and the eyes are noticeably squintier. - Starfield 21:49, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- And if we get a better Autobot symbol later, it is just a matter of uploading a new image. I think we should go ahead and have different faction icons for the movie. They are different. The toys do have different tampographs, even if they get them mixed up occasionally. Anyone object strongly? - Starfield 22:09, 6 February 2010 (EST)
- Well, if we're going to do it, we may as well do it right. I'll have high-res versions of the symbols in PNG format ready shortly.--RosicrucianTalk 22:26, 6 February 2010 (EST)

With the new toyline having movie characters with traditional symbols, we should probably scrap having different movie faction symbols, to make things a lot easier. If there is no objection, I'll make the change. - Starfield 16:09, 14 August 2010 (EDT)
- Fundamentally the distinction is the symbol the characters have worn. (Prime has G1 and G2 Autobot symbols, for instance.)
- OTOH, while the gray movie symbols have been used, so have the red decepticon symbols/blue autobot symbols, and various and sundry other variants-- with the 'traditional' Autobot/Decepticon symbols mixed in from the beginning-- at least on the toyline side.
- (I suspect no one but the wiki considers the movie's stylistic variant a 'different symbol'.) -Derik 16:34, 14 August 2010 (EDT)
- I was never certain why we started using those minor variant symbols to begin with. --M Sipher 16:55, 14 August 2010 (EDT)
- Throw my vote in for eliminating them. —Interrobang 17:23, 14 August 2010 (EDT)
