Stripes is an Autobot Mini-Cassette from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Saved from the fires of "Category:Things that don't exist".

Stripes is little more than an animal. A nitrotiger native to Cybertron, Stripes was taken in, trained, and given the ability to transform. As part of his "evolution", he was outfitted with a battle harness that contains an AI that carries out offensive and defensive maneuvers... whether Stripes desires it or not.<ref>Encore Stripes pack-in bio</ref>

Legends comic

[edit]

In the late 1980s, Stripes and Tigertrack tried to protect the Transform Super Cog in the Ark from being stolen by the Decepticons, but the Battlechargers were able to snatch it from right under their noses. Slugslinger's Ambition

Controverse

[edit]

In early 2011 at the trial of Primacron by the Galactic Court, Stripes and Tigertrack acted as sentries surveying the delegates and interested parties appearing for the court hearings. When the Decepticons attacked, Primacron took the opportunity to free himself and assume control of the Primitives present. Stripes broke free of his control harness when he responded to Primacron's whistle, and helped Primacron subdue his Quintesson judge. Controverse

Multiversal observer Vector Prime remarked that in many realities, Blaster's cassettes included Stripes, Stinger, Bolts, Cubbie, and Anibots. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/24

Angry Birds Transformers

[edit]

Stripes is an "Accessory" character for the Autobirds. When equipped, he increases the speed of his partner's weapon reloading. This bonus can be increased with level upgrades, won from random-prize Crates or in the "Shockwave's Tower" mini-game.

He can be unlocked by purchasing him with Gems in the Barracks, with Tokens during specific Challenge Events, or won from Crates and Shockwave's Tower. Angry Birds Transformers

Encore

[edit]
Probably a better name for a tiger than Tigatron.
  • Twincast (2012)
  • ID number: 22
  • Accessories: Left & right cannons, cassette case
Encore "Cybertron Stripes" is an orange, silver, and black tiger-based redeco of Ravage, included with Encore Twincast and Nightstalker. He gets Steeljaw's weapons in gold chrome (rather than the orange color featured in promotional photos). As was the case with most of the other cassettes packed with Twincast's other releases, Stripes sports a different sticker in place of his cassette spool image; an image of Scorponok which reveals the city-bot's weak spots when viewed through Twincast's clear-red chest door (in the same way Tech Spec decoders work).
This toy was also used to make Howlback and Glit.

Titans Return

[edit]
Changes from tiger, to Hooligan, to Roy Horn's iPad and back!
  • Autobot Stripes (Legends Class, 2016)
  • Known designers: John Warden (Hasbro){{#if: |, {{{2}}}}}
"Autobot Stripes" is part of the first wave of Titans Return Legends Class toys. He features three modes: "tiger", spy tablet, and jet. His beast mode features a sort of mane on the back of his neck, suggesting that he may have been sculpted as a Steeljaw toy before being given a new identity for Robots in Disguise-related reasons. His spy tablet mode features a non-functioning 3.5mm headphone socket, and can fit inside the chest compartment of Titans Return Autobot Blaster or his retool Soundwave. In jet mode, he features a pair of posts to allow a Titan Master to securely stand on top. Like all Legends Class spy tablets, his stickers are prone to coming off at the edges, particularly in the areas that require transformation such as the wings.
This mold was retooled into Ravage and Bumblebee Howlback. Stripes was a commonly-found shelfwarmer of the Titans Return line alongside fellow Legends Class Autobot Rewind.

Masterpiece

If Ravage were in Generation 2.
  • Cassettbot VS Cassettron (Multi-pack, 2017)
  • ID number: MP-15/16E
  • Release date: December 23, 2017
  • Accessories: Pink tape case
Issued in a limited edition "Encore" Masterpiece set available from TakaraTomy Mall, along with Nightstalker, Wingthing, and Enemy, "Cybertron Stripes" is a retool and redeco of Masterpiece Jaguar. Aside from the color scheme changes to suit the character's tiger theme, the weapon detail on the back legs has been remolded to resemble the gold weapons the Encore version "borrowed" from Steeljaw.
If purchased from a seller supplied by Hasbro Asia, the set includes a collector coin, featuring Enemy's face on one side and the Autobot logo and names of all the included characters on the opposite side. The coin is mounted in a card resembling a cassette, similar to the cards housing the coins for MP-15 and MP-16, but styled like Enemy's cassette mode on the "A" side, while the "B" side resembles Stripes's cassette mode.<ref>Collector Coin for Transformers Masterpiece MP-15 / 16-E Cassettbot vs Cassetron</ref>

The eighth release in the Collaborative line, "Vibras Stripes" is an admittedly slight redeco of his original Encore release; it is largely the same on the "robot" side of the toy, with the same tiger-stipe patterns as before, but the "cassette" side is now mostly blank, with a pair of googly eyes and an offset pair of teeth tampographed on, in line with the cover art for J. Transformers Character Card

[edit]
Released as part of the ninth wave of the e-HOBBY exclusive Transformers Character Card series, this pair of holographic trading cards depict super-deformed art of Twincast (with Rosanna, Nightstalker, and Stripes) and Soundblaster (with Wingthing, Buzzsaw, and Enemy) in their respective Headmasters forms along with character profiles and tech specs.

Notes

[edit]
How long until Cubbie, Stinger and Bolts have toys?
"Nudes" just wasn't considered as marketable.
  • Stripes originated in an early draft for The Transformers: The Movie, where he was released out of Blaster's chest to combat the Decepticon Mini-Cassettes during the Battle of Autobot City. Stripes would have snapped at Ratbat, scaring him. In the finished movie, Ramhorn replaced Stripes in battling Ratbat. Since he was written out of his only intended appearance before publication, he is among the most obscure established characters to ever be given a toy—and that's saying something when he's coming out alongside a one-shot prose-only UK character and a decapitated radio. He held that record until Solarbot came around in 2013.
  • Stripes was originally designed to be a Smilodon, or saber-toothed cat. Ironically, it is generally believed that real-life Smilodon had either plain coats or spots, not stripes.
  • His function is "Battle Beast" (戦闘獣 Sentō Jū).
  • Both Stripes's Encore and Masterpiece bios state his species as a nitrotiger, while his Titans Return bio says he's a cybertiger.

Foreign names

[edit]
  • Japanese: Stripes (ストライプス Sutoraipusu)
