Toys

Beastformers

  • Platinum Tiger (Beastformer, 1987)
    • Beast ID number: 50
    • Accessories: "Platinum Sword"
Part of the second series of Beastformers, Platinum Tiger is an anthropomorphic saber-toothed tiger. He comes with his "Platinum Sword" (プラチナスウォード).
His rubsign reveals one of three symbols; Fire, Water or Wood. The initial release has the symbol as a black outline against "mood ring" style color-changing backdrop. He was re-released in series three, in a new box lacking the Transformers brand marks; this release gives him a rubsign that reveals a full-color symbol on a black backdrop.

  • Tiger Hunter (Beastformer Head Hunter Vehicle, 1987)
    • Beast ID number: 50
    • Accessories: "Platinum Sword"
Platinum Tiger also came packaged with the Tiger Hunter vehicle, seemingly unchanged from his original release.

  • Beast-sei Seidai no Taiketsu Set (Multi-pack, 1988)
    • Beast ID number: 50
    • Accessories: "Platinum Sword", Tiger Hunter
Platinum and the Tiger Hunter vehicle were also available as part of the "Greatest Showdown on Planet Beast" multi-pack. This set contained unchanged versions of Platinum, the Tiger Hunter, Golder, Kingbuster, Salmomancer, Skullgrotes, and Yellow Giraffe, and a gold-chrome version of the Battle Drill Battle Cruiser mini-vehicle.

Notes

  • Platinum Tiger's name would have been better Romanized as "Platina Tiger", but "Platinum Tiger" is the official Romanization provided by Takara via a trading card. "Platina" is the standard word for platinum in Japan, and comes from an older name for the element.
  • Platinum is the only Beastformer from Series 2 to appear in the Headmasters cartoon.
  • The Hasbro release of "Saber Sword Tiger" was similarly (eventually) available with both styles of rubsign.
  • The head and colors of Fengul from Titans Return are based on Platinum Tiger.

Foreign names

  • English: Saber Sword Tiger
