Scavenger is the Decepticon excavator.

Toys

The Transformers

I only serve the purpose of an Arm. Other than that, I'm useless.
  • Hasbro Team ID number: 2
  • Takara ID number: 35
  • Accessories: "Laser pistol", "Target Shooter" launcher/forearm, Devastator's right fist, "Rotor Blade" projectile
  • Known designers: Kōjin Ōno (TakaraTomy), Mark Watts (packaging colorist)
Released in the second year of Hasbro's The Transformers toyline (first year in European markets), Scavenger is a redeco of the Takara Pre-Transformers Diaclone "Construction Vehicle Robot No. 2 Power Shovel", transforming into a bright green and purple Komatsu PC200-1 excavator. He also has an "Attack Shovel" mode, attaching the "Target Shooter" projectile launcher (with the "Rotor Blade" loaded) onto the pegs on the right side of his green vehicle chassis. He can combine with his fellow Constructicons to form Devastator, functioning as the right arm.
On the European continent, Scavenger was initially released individually alongside the other Constructicons by Hasbro's subsidiary Milton Bradley (MB) in 1985.[1][2] In 1986, Scavenger and the other Constructicons were re-released in Europe, albeit this time in "Hasbro"-branded packaging (but manufactured by Joustra). The main difference with all other releases thus far was that the Constructicons' main color was now yellow instead of green.[3][4][5] These are not to be confused with the later, non-combining yellow European Constructicons, nor with the yellow Generation 2 Constructicons (see below for both).
For the GiG Italian relase of Transformers, "Braccio" and the other "Escavators" were sold in boxes very similar to the Takara packaging instead of on Hasbro-style cards. The boxes even sported the Takara ID numbers from "31" to "36", and omitted the "Hasbro" logo on the packaging in favor of a "Takara" logo.

  • Devastator (Giftset, 1985)
  • Takara ID number: 37
  • Accessories: "Laser pistol", "Target Shooter" launcher/forearm, Devastator's right fist, "Rotor Blade" projectile
Scavenger was also available as part of the Devastator gift set that was available in several markets, including the United States and Japan. All of the toys in this set are identical to their individual releases.
The gift set was also released by GiG in Italy, and it would be reissued a handful of years later by Greek company El Greco in 1991. Rumors are that an MB-branded Devastator giftset was also released in continental Europe, but thus far no packaged sample has surfaced.[2]

  • Constructicons (Constructicon, 1992)
  • Accessories: "Laser pistol"
Another yellow European exclusive version of Scavenger, in colors very similar to the previous yellow European release, was released in the penultimate year of the original toyline. Scavenger doesn't come with any Devastator parts, and his chest panel (which folds out to allow him to merge into Devastator) was omitted. But there were no actual tooling changes to the toy, so you could replace this piece with one salvaged from a normal Scavenger release if you chose to.
There were two variants of this Scavenger: The initial production run had his bucket arm cast in gray plastic (a color choice unique to this version), whereas the other one had a yellow bucket arm like the previous European yellow Scavenger.[6]
While all six of these Constructicons share the same blister cards (with the key art being of Scrapper and smaller illustrations of the other five Constructicons showing up next to him), there is a small variant in how they're packaged: whereas some versions came with the vehicle modes placed sideways relative to the blister card, others came with the vehicle wheels / threads oriented towards the blister card, thus showing up as if presented from a top-down view. The blister bubbles are different across the two styles of packaging to accommodate this change.
This toy was also not officially named, as he came on the aforementioned standardized card also used by the other five Constructicons.

Generation 2

Now not only am I yellow, they still haven't gotten rid of this Butt Scoop.......
  • Scavenger (Constructicon, 1992)
  • Team ID number: 2
  • Accessories: "Laser pistol", "bionic power pak"/Devstator forearm, drill, Devastator right fist
Part of the very first assortment of Generation 2 product released just in time for the 1992 holiday season, all six Constructicons were redecoed, once again in primarily yellow and purple. However, these releases have some notable differences from the prior European-market yellow versions, the most blatantly obvious being the addition of a Generation 2-style Decepticon logo and "DECEPTICON" tampograph on each (though Scavenger's is pretty well-hidden due to a general lack of open space to apply it: it's on his main torso, hidden behind his metal tummy/chest-plate). The purple plastic is also brighter in tone, and there are no gray-plastic parts. Most importantly, their ability to combine into Devastator has been restored, with Scavenger's flip-down metal tab intact. On top of that, Scavenger's combiner forearm (now labeled a "bionic power pak") and its fist and drill attachments have been retooled to remove all spring-loaded-launcher functionality from them.
A later and seemingly less common run in 1993 changed the yellow plastics to rich orange. It was long rumored that this release was a KB Toys exclusive, but that has since been debunked; KB just ended up with the lion's share of what was a simple late-run running change to the normal retail release.

Universe (2003)

What's my purpose now?!? I look like That Guy! HOW AM I SIGNIFICANT NOW?!
  • Scavenger (Micromaster, 2004)
    • Accessories: Devastator head & rifle
The Universe Scavenger toy was utilized as the Beast Wars: Uprising incarnation of Skavenger.
A redeco of Digger, Scavenger transforms into a power shovel truck. He can form the right arm to any similar-construction Micromaster combiner robot, but his nominal position is as the arm of Constructicon Devastator. (He can be used as a left arm too, but since only the right fist to the Sixbuilder mold-set will work with him, he'd be backwards.)
A KB Toys exclusive, he and the other Micromaster Constructicons were also ultimately available from Sears during Christmastime, and Kmart's online store.
The toy's connector socket is approximately 5mm wide, making Scavenger compatible with Powerlinx ports.
This mold was also used to make Micromaster Scavenger.

Classics

"Now I'LL be queen of summertime! I mean king! KING!"
  • Constructicon Devastator (Multi-pack, 2007)
Scavenger is one of the toys included in this gift pack, a redeco of Energon Steamhammer. He transforms into a green face shovel, of the super-sized quarry-mining variety. In robot mode, his left arm is made out of the steam shovel arm, and he has a spark crystal within the shovel.
He forms the central body component of Devastator this time, with the combiner's head being located inside his cabin, and the rest of his team plugging into combiner Powerlinx ports located in his arms and legs.
Scary, huh?
Just like his Super Link and Energon predecessors, Scavenger suffers from a slight misassembly: The small tabs on the sides of his treads are supposed to peg into the holes in the black flaps on his hips, thereby stabilizing the robot torso. However, the tabs are located on the sides of his head instead. Fortunately, the treads can be easily swapped using a screwdriver. Hasbro's official stock photography depicts the treads correctly assembled.

Encore

  • Devastor (2011)
    • ID number: 20
    • Accessories: Laser pistol, Devastator's right fist, "target shooter" projectile launcher, "rotor blade" projectile.
Scavenger was reissued in a giftset with his Constructicon teammates as part of TakaraTomy's Encore line. Although apparently cast from a newly created mold, given the presence of a Tomy copyright stamp rather than the original Hasbro/Takara one, Scavenger features no appreciable differences from his original figure, aside from a slightly smaller knob on the rear of his vehicle mode.

  • Devastor (Anime Color Ver.) (2013)
    • ID number: 20A
    • Accessories: Laser pistol, Devastator's right fist, "target shooter" projectile launcher, "rotor blade" projectile.
Scavenger was again reissued in a giftset in 2013 as part of TakaraTomy's Encore line, this time in a more 'anime accurate' color scheme. In addition to the mold changes of the 2011 version, Scavenger is also a slightly different color and features more cartoon-accurate paint applications on his face. His projectile launcher / Devastator's lower arm is colored black, instead of purple.

Scavengers ASSEMBLE!
  • Destruction Site Devastator (2012)
    • Set number: 36914
    • Pieces: 560
One of the four "sub-models" in the Devastator set, Scavenger can be built as either a bulldozer or a robot. His parts can also be used with Drill Bit, Hightower and Scrapper to build the super robot Devastator.
Scavenger has pieces bearing the serial number "G1-1-9-8-5". This is a homage to the original Constructicons' series of origin and year of first toy release.
  • Autobot Assault Devastator (2012)
    • Pieces: 781
The Toys"R"Us-exclusive version of the Devastator set has a Scavenger indistinguishable from the normal version.

They promised Scavenger that the hidden camera they were installing in his head would be discreet.
  • Constructicon Devastator (Micro-Changer Combiner, 2013)
    • Set number: A2224
    • Pieces: 76
    • Accessories: Scoped gun
One of the components of the Devastator Micro-Changer combiner, Scavenger is a Kreon that uses extra parts to transform from a minifigure into something that cannot be conclusively distinguished from an excavator. He also forms part of the super robot Devastator.

Combiner Wars

"What do you mean? This box isn't the same as that other guy's! It's mine!"
  • Devastator (gift set, 2015)
    • Accessories: Missile launchers/hands, two-piece gun, chest plate/gun, 2 swords
Combiner Wars Constructicon Scavenger is a Voyager-sized figure that transforms into an excavator as well as Titan Class Devastator's right arm. His head is based on his character model more than his original toy. He is packaged with the other Constructicons in a massive box.
As a part of a promotion in Hasbro's Asian markets, a free sticker sheet for the Constructicons was given out when purchasing the set. As such, Scavenger was given Generation 1 toy-esque stickers for the owner to apply if they wanted.

30 years later, and I'm still a useless floppy arm. And I don't even get a PROPER WEAPON!!!!
  • Devastator (gift set, 2015)
    • Accessories: Missile launchers/hands, two-piece gun, chest plate/gun, 2 swords
A redeco of the above Scavenger figure also available as part of a gift set, featuring extensive paint operations and Vacuum metallized purple parts. The packaging of this set is designed to evoke both Bonecrusher's shovel and Devastator's head, and its interior is designed to resemble the title image of Devastator on his wiki page.
In the U.S., this set (also referred to as "Devastator Special Edition" in a Hasbro press release) was exclusive to the Hasbro Toy Shop website and the Hasbro Toy Shop booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. In Asia, it was also available at Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong 2015 and subsequently stocked by Toys"R"Us Hong Kong. Later, it was also available at The Falcon's Hangar booth at Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention 2015.

Unite Warriors

I now have a more prominent butt scoop with equal pooper scooper action... UGH. At least my legs work better.
  • Devastor (giftset, December 12, 2015)
    • ID number: UW-04
    • English name: Devastator
    • Accessories: Missile launchers/hands, two-piece gun, chest plate/gun, 2 swords, 6 rifles
Takara's Scavenger, included in the Unite Warriors Devastor set, has some deco changes to better match the G1 cartoon. He now includes his original weapon. In addition, his knees were also retooled. Instead of them being on ball joints, they are now on a swivel joint connected to a mushroom peg, providing better articulation. This change was also made to Bonecrusher.
...But then again, you can't have everything.
As an unfortunate result of misinterpreting his front-view character model, Scavenger's gun is molded with the front "magazine" part angled towards the left. However, his back-view model and appearances in the cartoon (and movie) have it correctly drawn straight.

Vintage G1

  • Devastator (Walmart exclusive reissue, 2018)
    • Team ID number: 2
    • Accessories: Robot head, head laser, 2 forearms/launchers, 2 fists, 2 drills, "super wing" chest plate, "missile mount" hip connector, "wing" pelvis armor, "magna laser"/"solar energy rifle", individual robot guns, Mixmaster's 2 missiles
The original Devastator toy was once again available, this time in the Walmart exclusive Vintage G1 series. All of the toys inside were cast in a slightly yellower shade of bright green than prior releases, and were given a new style of rubsign used on all of the Vintage G1 toys; the insignia only turns red rather than the mood-ring multicolor of older rubsigns, plus the silver border is mirror-level reflective.
Each individual toy in the set has a number of smaller differences from previous versions as well. In Scavenger's case, some of his sculpted details are less sharp and deep than on his previous releases. The spring in his Devastator chunk/missile launcher has also been removed.

Studio Series

It's been a long ten years...
  • Scavenger (Deluxe Class, 2025)
Similar to his teammate and fellow armbot Bonecrusher, Scavenger's caterpillar treads are solid-molded, and feature no wheels underneath. He also possesses a waist swivel, but his backpack in robot mode locks it in place, leaving it unusable.
Announced at San-Diego Comic-Con 2024, Scavenger and his teammates are slated for single-packed releases in the The Transformers: The Movie themed arm of the screen accuracy focused Studio Series toyline throughout 2025. His rifle's magazine is now angled horizontally rather than diagonally. Scavenger naturally forms the right arm of Studio Series '86 Devastator.

Merchandise

Decoy

  • Destron Hero Collection 22 (Decoy multi-pack, 1985)
This small purple rubber figurine of Scavenger was released in Japan as part of a large multi-pack of similar figures, which were used as playing pieces for Transformers board games. The figure features a number etched into its back which is the sum total of Scavenger's Tech Spec ratings, which served some function in the gameplay the figures were used for.
  • Scavenger (1987)
    • Decoy number: 43
The Scavenger figurine was later brought over to Hasbro markets as part of the Decoy promotion, largely identical to the Japanese release except for the fact that the number on his back was replaced with a simple "checklist" number. Like all Decepticon Decoys, he was a randomly-chosen pack-in available with the carded Throttlebots, Stunticons, Combaticons and Terrorcons, and was, very early on in the promotion, available in an alternate red coloration that was only packed in with the Throttlebots. Naturally, this red figurine is much rarer.

Transformers Trading Card Game

  • Scavenger, Mining and Salvage (2019)
    • Wave 2A: Devastator Deck
    • Rarity: RT
    • Card Number: T05/T06
    • Stars: 4
Scavenger, Mining and Salvage was released as part of the Transformers Trading Card Game Devastator Deck box set, which includes character cards for all six Constructicons, a ready-to-play battle deck, and a unique Tower card. Like the other members of combiner teams released as part of the Trading Card Game's Wave 2: Rise of the Combiners, as well as the other Constructicons included with the Devastator Deck, Scavenger, Mining and Salvage is a folding card, with the Bot and Alt modes being depicted when the card is folded in half, and a holofoil portion of the the combined mode depicted when unfolded. The reverse of Scavenger, Mining and Salvage depicts the lower right portion of Devastator.
The artwork for Bot and Alt Mode is reused from the Transformers Legends mobile game.
Scavenger, Mining and Salvage can be used to form Devastator, Towering Warrior with the use of the Action card Constructicon Enigma while he and the other Devastator Deck Constructicons are in Bot mode on the battlefield or KO area.

Transformers Character Card

  • Omega Supreme & Devastor Set (August 14, 2023)
    • ID number: 55 & 56
Released as part of the eighth wave of the e-HOBBY exclusive Transformers Character Card series, this pair of holographic trading cards depict super-deformed art of Omega Supreme and "Devastor" (with his components Bonecrusher, Hook, Scavenger, Long Haul, Scrapper and Mixmaster) along with character profiles and tech specs.

Blokees

Galaxy Version

  • Scavenger (2024)
  • Series: Galaxy Version 03 - The Autobot Run
  • Accessories: 2 pairs of hands (Weapon-holding/fists, open-palm), blaster, spare peg-and-ball piece, spare ball-and-ball piece, stand, holdable Autobot and Decepticon insignias
Released in the second wave of the Galaxy Version line of blind boxes, Blokees Scavenger is a roughly 4-inch-tall, highly-articulated, and non-transforming snap-on model kit of the Constructicon Cement Mixer. He is built on a "Standard Body" skeleton shared with other Blokees figures in the line, but with different body pieces to make them distinct. Like many other Blokees figures, Scavenger has a stand with four studs on top, which he can plug into and connect to similar stands. Unlike some of the kits released in this wave, Scavenger features color-coded visor eye parts.
As advertised in the box, Mixmaster has a pull rate of 1 in every 9 boxes, or three times across four cases.

Defender
  • Scavenger Vehicle (2024)
  • Series: Defender Version 01 - Shattered Alliance
Released as part of the first wave of the Defender Version line of blind boxes, this Blokees kit of Scavenger is molded in his excavator form. In addition, he can form the right shoulder/arm of Devastator along with the other Constructicon vehicle kits and the gestalt's add-on, with the latter being obtainable at the Blokees Figure Club in China.
Despite what the instructions said, Scavenger can be modified in several ways for a slightly improved appearance; As seen in the gray prototype render, Scavenger's excavator arm can be extended outwards for better clearance at the arm articulation, or simply just rotate the cab 180 degrees for a toy/show-accurate rearrangement.

  • Scavenger (2024)
  • Series: Defender Version 01 - Shattered Alliance
  • Accessories: Blaster
This Defender kit of Scavenger is a 2.2-inch (5.5cm) figure, a few inches smaller than the Galaxy Version kits, but still articulated. He comes with a generic pistol that is used by most of the Autobots and Decepticons in this line.
As with all robot mode kits from this line, Scavenger features color-coded eye parts, which double as the neck's socket joint.

Notes

  • Scavenger's toy started out as a heroic Diaclone mecha available in orange.
