Unlike other mecha anime, this one is about the characters.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン, Shinseiki Evangerion) is a 1995 anime television series created and directed by Hideaki Anno. Conceived as a character study and deconstruction of the mecha genre, Evangelion morphed into something else entirely when Anno's mental health struggles and the studio's budgetary woes saw the show slide into depressing nihilism and impressionistic surrealism respectively.

These problems, however, became Evangelion's biggest strengths, and the show became a runaway success off the back of it being unlike anything seen before. The resulting multi-billion yen franchise spawned a wave of imitators, a series of theatrically-released remakes, and enough merchandise to fully furnish one's daily life. And somewhere in the middle of that, Evangelion crossed over with Transformers!

Released to tie in with the theatrical remake/reimagining Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, Transformers × Evangelion (トランスフォーマー×エヴァンゲリオン) is a small crossover franchise consisting of one toy and accompanying prose fiction.

Fiction

I did (not) mean to blow your mind.

The Transformers × Evangelion story was released in four parts and was available to read on the TakaraTomy Mall website to accompany the release of their exclusive Convoy Mode "Eva" figure.

Shortly thereafter, the Q-Transformers toyline got in on the action as part of its Q-Collaboration subline.
