It marks the final vintage Generation 1 series released in Japan, as the line was cancelled following Operation Combination, not to be revived until 1995 and Generation 2.

Operation Combination takes place after Return of Convoy and focuses on several combiner warriors, both Autobot and Decepticon. The series is unusual in that it doesn't make an effort to introduce brand new leaders for each faction.

Decepticon Führer Scrash sends Battle Gaia and the Jet Corps to pluder Earth's energy. The Autobots, headlined by Guard City, defend the planet. The storyline covers only a single battle fought between the two groups, taking place in Earth's orbit.
