Braver is an Autobot Brainmaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.
You really have to be braver with this fashion sense.

Braver (ブレイバー Bureibā) is the brains of his team—and when his team is named the Brainmasters, that's really saying something. Braver loves to tinker and create, being something of a mad scientist, but his child-like charm and creativity are tempered with the good sense to work on a small scale and not to turn on his creations until the kinks are worked out, leaving him a little less prone to self-injury than certain other scientists. And just because he's a brain doesn't mean Braver is lacking as a warrior—he is an accomplished fighter, capable of holding his own against two or three opponents at a time and employing complicated strategies and manoeuvres on the battlefield with ease.

As a Brainmaster, Braver possesses incredible skill, strength, intelligence and courage. Among the group, it should not be surprising to learn that Braver exemplifies intelligence in particular; his smallest robot form is the Brain of Intelligence (知恵のブレイン Chie no Brain) which combines with a Transtector that transforms into a sports car. In robot mode, Braver can eject oil from the soles of his feet and then proceed to run around his opponents at super speed, igniting the oil in a technique known as his blazing "Brain Hellfire" attack. Braver combines with his fellow Brainmasters Blacker and Laster into Road Caesar, forming the left leg of the super robot.

Crap, look at that timetable. I'm gonna miss my flight!

As a member of the Sector One unit of the Galactic Peace Alliance's Galactic Defense Force, Braver helped his fellow Brainmasters defend the sector against the evil advances of Decepticon Emperor of Destruction Deathsaurus. Eventually, the villains' attacks escalated to the point where Autobot Supreme Commander Star Saber was forced to join the fight. On the day Star Saber was due to arrive to take command of the Sector One force, the Decepticon Dinoforce attacked the human Lunar Base on Earth's moon, and Braver and the Brainmasters engaged the bumbling do-badders in battle. During the course of the fight, Braver was knocked into a chasm by Goryu, and by the time he was able to extricate himself, Star Saber had arrived and ended the trouble. The Brave Hero of the Universe - Star Saber

In Transformers vs. Street Fighter, the Hadouken beats Brain of Intelligence.

Braver and the Brainmasters later helped save Wingwaver from the menace of the Dinoforce's combined form of Dinoking, Sneak Attack! Dinoking after which they established a base on Earth with the other Autobots, and they combined into Road Caesar to help Star Saber battle Leozack and Dinoking on Jean's first day of school. Attack! Leozack The Brainmaster trio later battled the Breastforce at a desert energy plant, Unite!! Multiforce and once more combined into Road Caesar to battle Dinoking at the Ocean Exhibition amusement park. Move Out! Rescue Team

When word reached the Autobots of a Decepticon attack on the Neo Uranium Mines, Braver, Laster and Wingwaver used a sonic drill to burrow through the cave wall and get the drop on the Decepticons. When the team hit bedrock, Braver came up with the plan to have the trio use their own energy to super-charge the drill. The tactic proved successful, and the Breastforce were routed, Infiltration... The Uranium Mine but it wasn't long before they returned for a rematch, and Braver and the other Brainmasters found themselves at the mercy of their vicious Breast Animals in the subway tunnels of America. Big City - Underground Terror

Looking for a way to make the Autobots more proactive in their war against the Decepticons, Braver invented a brainwave scanner that could pick up Decepticon signals. Jean and Holi arrived in his lab just as he was putting the finishing touches to the prototype device, and when he turned it on to show them how it worked, all three were quite surprised to discover it was picking up a Decepticon signal in the vicinity. The signal belonged to the newest member of the Breastforce, Hellbat, and the Autobots immediately headed out to ambush the new Deception and his teammates. Unfortunately, Hellbat's hypnosis powers had the team on the ropes until Braver had a literal brainstorm and inverted the polarity of his brainwave scanner, turning it into a brainwave scrambler. The scrambling waves quickly forced the Decepticon to retreat, although just as they were pulling out, Leozack snatched the brainwave scanner and spirited it away with him. Although he knew the Decepticons couldn't use the device for evil, since it only worked on their brains, Braver was irritated at having his only copy of the device stolen, knowing it would take him some time before he would be able to build a new scanner. The New Warrior - Hellbat

Even Braver can't get a handle on Ikea instructions.

After escorting an oil tanker safely into port, Attack the Shuttle Base!! Braver found that oil tankers seemed to be the order of the day, as he soon found himself attempting to thwart a Decepticon plot to steal the fuel from the tanker Big Baron. Blacker discovered that the Breastforce were threatening to blow up Marine City with a neutron bomb if Baron's payload was not delivered to them. Braver and the Brainmasters scoured the city for the bomb and came up empty-handed, until Blacker snuck out to sea and listened in on the villains as they pillaged the Baron, discovering that the bomb was hidden in the city's Marine Tower. While his teammates took on the Decepticons, Braver raced to the top of the tower and put his scientific expertise to use defusing and dismantling the bomb, accomplishing the task without a second to spare. Tanker Hijack Operation This still wasn't the end of the oil tanker fad, though, as the Brainmasters soon found themselves fending off another attempt by the Breastforce to plunder a fleet of the ships. Rescue Jean!!

Arise, Bravimus Prime!

When Star Saber ventured into the asteroid belt to expose a hidden Decepticon kidnapping operation, he soon called in Braver and the Brainmasters to help rescue the captive humans while he battled the Decepticons. A Fierce Battle!! The Asteroid Not long after, the Brainmasters and Multiforce were left to defend Earth alone when Star Saber headed off to planet Micro with Jean and the Rescue Patrol Team, Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior and when they returned, Braver took Jean and Holi on a tour of the Schaeffer Energy plant in America. The Schaeffer plant soon came under attack from the Decepticons, and Braver merged with his fellow Brainmasters into Road Caesar to aid Star Saber in battle against the Breastforce's merged form of Liokaiser. Battle Up of Wrath!!

This is someone's fetish, we just know it.

When the Brainmasters were lured into the desert by the Breastforce, Braver and Laster found themselves unable to fight when their heavy bodies began sinking into the shifting sands. Blacker's dune buggy mode enabled him to keep moving, but even with the aid of the wandering samurai Autobot Greatshot, he was unable to escape serious injury. Star Saber soon arrived to pluck Braver and Laster from the desert's grainy grip, and they quickly took Blacker back to the Shuttle Base for medical attention. Crisis! Ambush in the Desert As Blacker convalesced, Braver and Laster were ordered by Star Saber to stay behind and watch over the him, and to keep secret the fact that Star Saber—himself badly wounded—had gone into battle. Before long, the Brainmaster leader had the truth of the matter wrung from his subordinates and ordered Braver and Laster to aid Star Saber on the battlefield. Unfortunately, the two Brainmasters failed to arrive before Star Saber's ally God Ginrai was fatally wounded by Deathsaurus, but their presence did convince the Decepticons to retreat before more lives were taken. A Deadly Battle

With the Autobot forces in disarray, the Decepticons continued their high-pressure attack techniques. Braver and Laster joined Star Saber in battling the Breastforce at a solar power station, but Star Saber soon received a summons from the Shuttle Base, calling him to the dying Ginrai's beside. As Star Saber hesitated, Braver barked at his commander to depart right away. Braver reasoned that Ginrai was aware that Star Saber would not readily leave a battle, and so must have had good reason to call on him. Star Saber followed Braver's advice, but without their commander's power, the two Brainmasters were soon defeated. Ginrai Dies!! Soon after, Braver, Laster and Landcross went up against Leozack, Hellbat and Dinoking on America's "Energy Road", and they emerged triumphant through the aid of Victory Leo, the reborn form of God Ginrai. Fight!! Victory Leo

When Deathsaurus unleashed his newest weapon—super smart-missiles launched from an orbital weapons platform that could strike anywhere on Earth faster than the Autobots could react—the Autobots were forced to stay their hands and allow the Decepticons to carry out energy thefts for fear of explosive reprisal. Braver and the Brainmasters had to speed to Pakistan to inform Victory Leo of the situation before he attacked the Dinoforce. Unable to do anything but watch the Dinoforce steal right in front of them, the Brainmasters were pushed to the breaking point, until Star Saber and Victory Leo revealed their new power: They combined into Victory Saber and outraced Deathsaurus's missile launch system, successfully destroying it and freeing up the Brainmasters to make short work of the Decepticons. The Tide Is Turned! The Ultimate Weapon, the Victory Unification

While Star Saber was off-planet attending a Galactic Peace Alliance conference, Leozack exploited his absence by donning an exo-skeleton that allowed him to pose as the Autobot leader and infiltrate the Shuttle Base. Victory Leo could tell that something was not right, but Braver and the Brainmasters would not hear his allegations. They were nearly duped into attacking Victory Leo by the faux Star Saber, but the return of the real deal and the exposure of Leozack's plot left them eating crow. A Mystery?! The Deception of the Base Bombs Later, the Brainmasters came to Star Saber's rescue when the Decepticons attacked him with the metal-eating Doriya insects, and they suffered the pain of the bugs' bite themselves before it was discovered that intense cold stopped the little critters. The Death-Bringing Space Insects!!

A month of Decepticon inactivity finally allowed Braver to recreate, perfect and mass-produce his brainwave scanner. Five completed units were distributed amongst the Autobots, and they successfully allowed the heroes to discover the Decepticons were in the process of raising Atlantis. Braver and the Brainmasters aided in relief efforts for the coastal cities devastated by tidal waves caused by the raising of the continent, The Terror of the Giant Tidal Waves and then headed out into space alongside Greatshot to serve as the first line of defense against Deathsaurus's Planet-Destroying Fortress, which had finally been reactivated by the energy stolen from the ancient ruins. The Brainmasters combined into Road Caesar, but were no match for the fortress's power, so they were sent back to Earth to recuperate by Victory Saber when he arrived to take up the fight. The Wrath of the Resurrected Giant Fortress! The team's injuries prevented them from aiding their commander in the final battle with the fortress, but in the end, Star Saber emerged victorious and destroyed the planet-killing weapon.

With the threat of Deathsaurus at last ended and Star Saber fulfilling his duties as Supreme Commander, Braver, Blacker and Laster were appointed joint commanders of the Sector One defense force. Showdown! The Fortress vs the Victory Unification

When Deathsaurus began his campaign against the Earth in 2025, Braver and the Brainmasters didn't roll onto the battlefield right away, being instructed by Star Saber to remain behind on Planet V while he and the Multiforce took on Deathsaurus and the Dinoforce. Magnificent! Our Friend, Star Saber! They later got their chance to join the fighting when Deathsaurus started a massive forest fire, but even as Road Caesar, they were thrashed by the Decepticon Emperor thanks to the power boost he gained by absorbing energy from the fire. Great Turn-Around! Star Saber

When Star Saber's human son Jean befriended two old human allies of the Autobots, Shūta Gō and Cab, the three young lads soon formed the "Autobot Boy Team" known as the Victories, donning armor based on the Brainmasters. Shūta wore a suit of armor inspired by Braver. The Star of Friendship, Jean and Star Saber!

Combined as Road Caesar, the Brainmasters arrived in time to see the tail end of Star Saber's battle with Deathsaurus, Dinoking and Liokaiser, which was won thanks to the sudden arrival of Victory Leo, with whom Star Saber combined to form Victory Saber. The Strongest Partners, the Combination of Victory! When Deathsaurus tried to counter the power of this combination by creating a mech for his own human cyborg son Solon, Braver and the Brainmasters delivered an intelligence report to Star Saber informing him of what the villain was up to. Mighty! Victory Saber

Braver later participated in a battle against Deathsaurus and Liokaiser, merging with his teammates into Road Caesar to join Victory Saber in combat. The Autobots and the Victories united their power to perform the "Five Stars of Victory" attack, with each of the Victories transferring his power into his Autobot counterpart for a super-charged attack. Shūta channelled his intelligence into Braver, and together, the power of the attack took out both Deathsaurus and Liokaiser in one blast. Shine! The Five Stars of Victory

When Deathsaurus unleashed his "Space Stronghold" upon the Earth, Braver and the Brainmasters joined in the united Autobot attack against it, but were left dumbfounded when they discovered that the fortress was actually home to the Decepticons' families, and that all along, they had been committing their evil deeds in order to keep them safe. Inspired by the example their two sons had set, Star Saber and Deathsaurus declared a truce, and peace came to the Transformers...the truest victory of all! Heroic! The Victory War

Nine million years before the Transformers woke on Earth, Braver was part of Magnum's military experiment, the Autobot Elite Guard. His unit, led by Ranger, was known as the Fast Attack Team. Although briefly successful at culling the Decepticon Warlords and their troops, the Elite Guard eventually fell before one of their own squads. The Special Ops Team, aka the Combaticons, joined forces with Deathsaurus and were upgraded into the towering gestalt, Bruticus. Braver and his teammates were among the first Elite Guardsmen who fell before Bruticus's rampage through the team's headquarters. The Coming Storm: Part 6

  • Braver (1989)
    • Japanese ID number: C-322
    • Accessories: "Brain of Intelligence" Brainmaster figure, sword, "Strong Blur Rifle" blaster/Road Caesar fist, shield/Road Caesar shin guard & foot
Braver transforms into Ferrari F40 sports car. His transformation is notably simplistic for his size, but is a consequence of the Brainmaster gimmick which dominates his torso. Placing the small "Brain of Intelligence" figure into the open chest cavity then closing the plate pushes the inner core of the small robot up, forming the larger robot's face. As with the other Brainmasters, the Brain of Intelligence is designed to look like a miniature version of Braver's larger robot mode. While Braver is in vehicle mode, the Brain of Intelligence rides in his hinged cockpit.
Braver is equipped with a quite a few weapons, coming with a sword, a chunky blaster, and a shield with additional gun barrels built in that mounts on his arm. When Braver is in vehicle mode, his shield and blaster combine to form an elaborate weapons array that mounts on his roof. Braver also combines with Laster and Blacker (sold separately) to form Road Caesar, forming the left leg of the super robot. His weapons form integral parts of Road Caesar; his blaster transforms into the right fist, his shield unfolds into a large shin-guard-esque plate that forms the front of his left leg, with foot attached, and his sword combines with those of his teammates to create a large blade for Road Caesar to wield.
This mold was later used to make the Motorvator Lightspeed.

  • Road Caesar (Multi-pack, 1989)
    • Japanese ID number: C-323
All three smaller Brainmasters were available in Japan both in individual boxes and in a complete Road Caesar gift-set. The gift-set versions are identical to their individual releases.
