Jetfire (G1)/toys
From MediaWiki

If there is a large, flying Autobot toy that's not an Aerialbot, it's probably one of Jetfire's.
Toys
Generation 1

- Jetfire (1985)
- Accessories: "Photon Missile Launcher", rifle mounting pod, "Turbo Thruster" booster pack, 2 leg guards (left & right), 2 arm guards, 2 fenders
- A redeco of the Takatoku Toys Macross VF-1S Super Valkyrie, Jetfire features three modes: robot, jet, and an "alternate transformation" (called the "Gerwalk" form in Macross, and the "Guardian" form in Robotech) that deploys his arms and legs in jet mode. Additionally, Jetfire comes with several red pieces of armor and rocket booster backpack that can snap onto his arms, legs, and back in any mode. He has noticeably more articulation than the other Transformers in the line at the time. The VF-1S toy is based on a design by mecha designer Shōji Kawamori.
- The shoulder assembly where the jet mode folds in half for robot mode is one of the more commonly broken parts in the early Transformers toy line. The more rigid plastic used on the armor pieces also means that it's not uncommon for their attachment clips to have snapped off. And finally, the small black clip-piece that attaches Jetfire's rifle to his jet mode is possibly one of the most commonly missing accessories on secondhand Jetfires, if not secondhand Transformers all around. The fact that the instructions don't tell you what to do with it doesn't help. The piece is used to hold Jetfire's rifle via the clip attached to the arm, as well as under the jetmode as a belly gun.
- There were two main variations of the toy: one featuring the Macross UN Spacy logo on the wings, and one without the logo. The Macross logo was either painted on or came as a sticker. The logo-less variant has a continuous red strip along the length of the wing, whilst both logo versions have a slight gap in the paint apps surrounding the logo.
Generation 2

- Jetfire (Cyberjet, 1995)
- Japanese ID number: TRF-16
- Accessories: 2 armor-piercing missiles
- Jetfire was released in Generation 2 as one of the Autobot Cyberjets, a redeco of the Decepticon Hooligan. He transforms into a proposed swing-wing naval variant of the F-22 Raptor. He is armed with a pressure-launched missile fired from his right arm, which also forms a weapon in fighter mode.
- Interestingly enough, his toy has Decepticon faction symbol stickers, despite being released as an Autobot.
- The Japanese release of Jetfire came with an extra decal sheet, featuring white tiger markings, extra Generation 2 Autobot symbols (presumably to cover the Decepticon ones that were factory-applied), and "battle damage" markings.
- This mold was also used to make Robotmasters R-Blade, Universe Wind Sheer, and BotCon 2005 Ricochet. R-Blade's expanded bio in the Robotmasters sourcebook specifically mentions Jetfire as the leader of the Autobot Cyberjets, even though no mention of this is made in Jetfire's Generation 2 bio, in the U.S. or Japan.
Titanium Series

- Jetfire (6-inch Cybertron Heroes, 2006)
- Accessories: 2 cannons, display stand with removable nameplate
- Jetfire is based on Don Figueroa's design as seen in Dreamwave's The War Within miniseries, which in turn was based on Figueroa's scratch-build custom Transformer, Strikefire. He transforms into a Cybertronic fighter plane with armor add-ons.
- As with all Titanium Series figures, Jetfire's toy is constructed of both die-cast metal and molded plastic, and it comes with a plastic display stand featuring his name and his faction logo. In jet mode, landing gear can be deployed from underneath the fuselage and both legs. In robot mode, the two wing cannons can be removed to be held by the robot either separately or combined together into a single weapon.
Classics

- Jetfire (Voyager, 2006)
- Accessories: Rocket Booster pack, two-piece rifle, 2 missile launchers, 2 missiles, helmet
- Classics Jetfire's design is an amalgam of the original cartoon/comic model for Jetfire/Skyfire and the original toy. It not only features removable armor like the original toy, but the toy-inspired head can be removed like a helmet to reveal a cartoon/comic-inspired head. The jet mode is primarily based on the F-14 Tomcat (itself the inspiration for the Macross VF-1 Valkyrie design), but with various visual elements taken from Skyfire's character model, most notably the squared-off nosecone. The toy's add-on booster packs have flip-out reveal cannons, and it also features arm-mounted spring-loaded missile launchers.
- An unexpected level of detail can be found on the black non-firing rifle; when it is assembled, the halves of the gun's "sight" come together in a way that would be functional on a full-size weapon.
- The toy's design was first featured on the solicited cover to IDW Stormbringer #1. Contrary to popular belief, it was not designed by Don Figueroa.
- A "ghost" redeco of this toy, with black plastic and silvery electric paint deco, was shown by Hasbro in a news broadcast about their attempts to cheer up a Rhode Island orphan. Sadly, this version was never released.
- This mold was retooled to make the BotCon 2007 version of Dreadwind, and redecoed to make the Universe version of Tread Bolt.

- Jetfire (Legends, 2006)
- This toy is a redeco of Legends of Cybertron-class Thundercracker, transforming into an Su-37 fighter jet. His cannon, while movable, is permanently attached to his left arm.
- This mold was later redecoed into Universe Starscream, and then Universe Silverbolt from the Target-exclusive "Special Team Leaders" Legends-class figure pack.
- Jetfire and Grimlock Twin Pack (two-pack, 2007)
- Accessories: Rocket Booster pack, two-piece rifle, 2 missile launchers, 2 missiles, helmet
- In Asian markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, Voyager Class Jetfire was also made available as part of a special two-pack with Deluxe Class Grimlock in late 2007. Aside from the unique packaging, the toys are identical to their single releases.
Henkei! Henkei!

- Skyfire (Voyager, 07-17-2008)
- Japanese ID number: C-06
- Accessories: Hydrogen-fuel Turbo Thruster Pack, two-piece rifle, 2 photon missile launchers, 2 infrared homing missiles, helmet
- Henkei! Henkei! Skyfire is a redeco of Classics Jetfire. The primary changes to his deco are mainly for better resemblance to Skyfire's Generation 1 cartoon model's appearance (in particular painting most of the canopy to make it appear smaller), rather than the Jetfire/Macross design. Of amusement is the fact the fighter's airbrake has been painted blue to be a faux secondary canopy. As with all Henkei toys, he lacks the heat-sensitive rubsign seen on the Classics release, but instead has some vacuum-metallized parts (his jetpack's exhaust nozzles).
- It also includes a mini-manga detailing the events that lead to Skyfire's appearance in the Henkei! Henkei! universe (mini-manga universe, that is).
- Jetfire (Voyager, 9-15-2013)
- Accessories: Hydrogen-fuel Turbo Thruster Pack, two-piece rifle, 2 photon missile launchers, 2 infrared homing missiles, helmet
- Exclusive to Cybertron Con 2013, Jetfire features a similar deco to the regular Henkei! Henkei! Skyfire but with more white, the red being metallic paint, and most notably Decepticon insignias on the wings. Uncharacteristically for a Henkei! Henkei! figure, he lacks vacuum-metallized parts. Additionally his box (in monochrome blue) features a lot of English text including the Hasbro market name and bio, even though the box is otherwise following the original Henkei! Henkei packaging design, down to the line's Japanese title logo.
Gentei! Gentei!

- Dark Skyfire (Voyager, 3-18-2010)
- Japanese ID number: C-06
- Accessories: Hydrogen-fuel Turbo Thruster Pack, two-piece rifle, 2 photon missile launchers, 2 infrared homing missiles, helmet
- Gentei! Gentei! Dark Skyfire is a Toy Hobby Market-exclusive black repaint and retool of Classics Jetfire. The primary changes to his deco are mainly for making him, uh, darker. Specifically, he's cast in glossy black and purple plastic, with painted purple details and new thin white stripes on his wings. The tips of his backpack cannons have been significantly remolded to make the barrels and stalks on which they are mounted a single, newly-jointed piece, with the result being that the cannons' bodies stick out ever so slightly from their housing. This change is likely to make the barrels more durable under the constant spring-loaded strain of being hidden, as well as allow one to pivot and deploy the cannons without sliding back the panels that are keeping them hidden, due to the fact that deploying the cannons this way with the previous tooling often resulted in the (detachable) tips of the cannons to pop out and send them flying. As with all Henkei toys, he lacks the heat-sensitive rubsign seen on the Classics release, but instead has some vacuum-metallized parts (his jetpack's exhaust nozzles).
- The extent of Dark Skyfire's 'Dark' originally varied from image to image: early pre-production mockup images showed a dark matte grey similar to e-Hobby Astrotrain, whilst later images appeared gloss black with high-contrast silver details, leading to speculation that this redeco is the previously unreleased 'ghost' Classics Jetfire. Some possible hints of this remain, such as the Hasbro Classics-styled open cockpit instead of Henkei's half-painted version, as well as some entirely new paint operations, such as the added stripes on the sides of the intakes just behind his shoulders.
- Pre-orders for Dark Skyfire opened up on November 12th and closed on December 11th 2009, with the toys finally shipping in March of 2010.
- This figure was repurposed as Shattered Glass Jetfire.
Bot Shots

- Jetfire (2012)
- Series: 1
- Number: B010
- Fist strength: 780
- Blaster strength: 480
- Sword strength: 360
- Part of the third wave of Bot Shots, Jetfire is a teeny little jet with a spring-loaded automatic transformation to robot mode triggered when his nosecone is pressed. He has a "spinner" in his chest that shows his three attack types and power levels. The colors and sculpted detail are greatly influenced by Classics Jetfire.
- This mold would also have been used to make the unreleased Bot Shots Blast Off.

- Skyquake / Jetfire / Powerglide (2012)
- Series: 1
- Number: BP006
- Fist strength: 215
- Blaster strength: 595
- Sword strength: 810
- This version of Jetfire was only available in a three-pack with Skyquake and Powerglide.

- Polar Assault Team (Multi-pack, 2013)
- Series: 2
- Number: T005
- Fist strength: 220
- Blaster strength: 895
- Sword strength: 505
- A redeco of the original Jetfire Bot Shots mode with pretty much the same color layout of the three-pack Jetfire, only with blue instead of red. This version of Jetfire was available in a five pack with new redecoes of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Mirage, and Ironhide.
BeCool
- White Jet (Jetfire) (2012)
- ID number: B11
- BeCool "White Jet" is practically identical to the first Bot Shots Jetfire toy, the only difference being that his stickers don't depict power levels but instead drawings of his vehicle mode in flight, a passenger's bag and the word "Fight!" in English and Japanese.
Generations

- Jetfire (Leader, 2014)
- Series / Number: 02 / 001
- 21 OF 30
- Accessories: "Photon Missile Launcher", 1 missile, "Turbo Thruster" booster pack, 2 leg mounted cannon/guards (left & right), 2 arm mounted cannons/guards, removable battle mask
- Generations Jetfire's design is an amalgam of the original cartoon/comic model for Jetfire/Skyfire and the original toy. It features removable armor like the original toy, but the toy-inspired head can be removed like a mask to reveal a more proportioned cartoon/comic-inspired head. The jet mode is again based on a navalized F-22 Raptor with F-14 Tomcat-like variable geometry wings (The F-14 itself being the inspiration for the Macross VF-1 Valkyrie design), but with a faux cockpit reminiscent of his Skyfire's character model underneath the jet's fuselage, most notably the faux squared-off nosecone in his robot mode. The toy's add-on booster pack which can be rotated 360 degrees, arm and leg mounted cannons are vacuum-metallized bright metallic red. Jetfire also carries a vacuum-metallized spring-loaded "photon" missile launcher/rifle. All five weapons can combine into a larger weapon, and the removable face armor can be stowed by plugging into the rifle while both arm cannons can also be attached to the peg hole located on both sides of his Turbo Thruster pack. This toy appears as Jetfire's new body in the "Dawn of the Autobots" arc of Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
- All versions of this mold have a design flaw in the strut that connects the pelvis to the chest. The very small, very thin plastic on either side of where the strut pins in between the legs has a tendency to eventually break, especially after repeated transformations. The primary cause appears to be when the friction pin starts to work its way into both the inner and outer pieces. Checking the clearance between the pieces and the position of the pin can help prevent untimely damage. Some units also have an insanely tight pin hole here, where it requires less force to ratchet the pieces apart than to rotate properly. Removing the pin and opening the hole on the inner piece of the joint can also lengthen the effective lifespan of the figure.
- This mold was also retooled into Generations Combiner Wars Thundercracker, Starscream, and Skywarp.

- Silver Jetfire (Leader, 2014)
- Accessories: "Photon Missile Launcher", 1 missile, "Turbo Thruster" booster pack, 2 leg mounted cannon/guards (left & right), 2 arm mounted cannons/guards, removable battle mask
- Limited to only 3 pieces, Silver Jetfire is a redeco of the Leader Class toy above, featuring silver paint on his white parts. The toy was released as a contest prize in AEON Malaysia, which ran from 15 September to 15 October 2014. To enter the competition, participants needed to purchase the regular Leader Class Jetfire toy first.
- Hilariously, while the actual answer is Jet, there are 3 additional answers: Yacht, Bus, and Motorcycle.
Cyber Series

- Jetfire (Cyber Series, 2017)
- Accessories: 2 Guns
- Released in the second wave of Cyber Battalion toys, Jetfire is a retool of the Starscream figure from the previous wave. He changes from jet to robot in a few easy steps and includes two guns which can he can either hold in his hands, peg onto his arms, or mount underneath his vehicle mode wings. Unlike the base mold, his wings can swing in and out like his original G1 figure.
Kre-O

- Jetwash (Micro-Changer, 2014)
- Bag number: 40551 53
- Accessories: 2 buildable rifles
- Jetwash can be rebuilt from robot mode into a jet. He sports Prowl's helmet and the Starscream wing-backpack. He also comes with 2 buildable guns, which is a combination of his jet tail fins and pistols. He uses a chest tampograph based on the original Jetfire toy, but the leg deco is based on the "Skyfire" cartoon model.
- Although the stock photos shows that the guns can be nudged down to the red parts, but it was rendered impossible in the final product. Several samples of Jetwash had balance problems with the legs's ball-joint holes, causing the figure to fall over if not placed on a display brick. However, a very few samples had perfectly balanced leg parts. Good luck finding them.
- He was available in the fifth assortment of blind-bagged Kreon Micro-Changers, available only at ToysЯUs stores in the US and Canada.
- Skyfire (Gacha Micro-Changer, 2015)
- Accessories: 2 buildable rifles
- The Jetwash Micro Changer Kreon is also released as a "TF Kreon Microchangers" Gacha toy by Takara Tomy, under the name Skyfire.
- Kreon Class of '85 (Kreon figure set, 2015)
- Set number B5152
- Voted: The Brain
- Accessories: Bazooka
- Back to his original name, Kreon Class of '85 Jetfire is heavily original-toy-based, down to the Veritech-inspired visor-and-mask helmet and red "scramjet" backpack.
- He was only available in a 30-Kreon set, originally made for sale at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. The leftovers were then made available on Hasbro Toy Shop online.
Hero Mashers
- Jetfire (Basic, 2014)
- Pieces: 9
- Part of the second wave of basic Hero Mashers toys, Jetfire is a non-transforming robot based on his Generations Leader Class toy. He includes the same wing-pack as Hero Mashers Starscream. His parts can be removed and swapped with any other Hero Mashers figure to create hideous Transformer monstrosities.
Legends

- Jetfire (Leader, 2014-12-27)
- ID number: LG07
- Accessories: "Photon Missile Launcher", 1 missile, "Turbo Thruster" booster pack, 2 leg mounted cannon/guards (left & right), 2 arm mounted cannons/guards, removable battle mask
- Legends Jetfire is a redeco of Generations Jetfire, featuring de-chromed weapons and a few changes of the deco. He comes with volume 7 of the Transformers Legends Comic: Bonus Edition mini-comic.
Q-Transformers

- Jetfire (2016-01-30)
- ID number: QTF-08
- A retool of Q-Transformers Starscream, Jetfire transforms from a super deformed jet to a cute chubby little robot.
- This mold was also retooled into Q-Transformers Skywarp and Thundercracker.
Revolution
- Revolution Set (SDCC Gift Set, 2017)
- Accessories: "Photon Missile Launcher", 1 missile, "Turbo Thruster" booster pack, 2 leg mounted cannon/guards (left & right), 2 arm mounted cannons/guards, removable battle mask
- Released as part of a San Diego Comic-Con 2017 exclusive set, this Jetfire is basically a re-release of the Legends figure. He was packed with several other Hasbro Universe action figures: M.A.S.K.s Matt Trakker, Action Man, Visionaries' Leoric, G.I. Joes Roadblock, Rom & a Dire Wraith, and 9 Micronauts mini-figurines.
Merchandise
Attacktix

- Jetfire (Booster,
2007)
- Attacktix Jetfire was heavily based on his Titanium Series toy, and would've featured an oversized gun from which he fired a single missile. He was displayed at various conventions, but was ultimately canceled alongside the entire Attacktix line.
Transformers - Mini Bust
- Jetfire (2009)

- Released by Diamond Select Toys in 2009, Jetfire was sculpted by Mark Wong of Art Asylum and limited to 1000 pieces. He is wielding his photon missile launcher but it uses the double-barreled cartoon design instead of the single-barreled version that came with the toy. The rest of the character design is a mixture of his cartoon and comic bodies.

- Battle Armor Jetfire Bust (2009)
- An exclusive to AFX, this version of the Jetfire bust features an interchangeable Macross-inspired head design based upon his original Generation 1 toy, two booster packs on his back and a "battle damaged" sculpt.
Transformers Gum

- Skyfire (2009)
- Released in the second wave of the revived Transformers Gum series in 2009, this transforming model kit of Skyfire is made of white and blue plastic, with lots of stickers for detail. Based on the Henkei Skyfire figure, the back of the head features the face of the larger toy's helmet.
G.I. Joe and the Transformers
- The Epic Conclusion! box set (2013)

- An exclusive release for San Diego Comic-Con 2013, this is a redeco and retool of the 2011 mold of the G.I. Joe Skystriker meant to represent Jetfire. The retool adds Jetfire's distinctive boosters and features an opening cockpit which can seat a figure. The boosters also mount the Skystriker's original vertical tail fins as a second set of horizontal fins. The set also comes with a redecoed VAMP representing Hound, a new Snake-Eyes figure bearing an Autobot symbol, a Baroness figure with Ravage on a leash, a Blaster boombox with cassette pieces representing Steeljaw, Ramhorn, and Eject, and a "samurai robot warrior" based on Bludgeon.
- The box set was announced via a USA Today article on June 5, 2013, along with Hasbro's other Comic-Con exclusives.
- On July 22, 2013, Harmony Gold, owner of the rights to the Robotech franchise and U.S. claimant to the Macross rights, filed a copyright infringement suit against Hasbro. In the filing, Harmony Gold argued that the release somehow infringed upon the intellectual property of the Veritech, but noted that "damages are difficult to ascertain". They demanded that Hasbro recall all Jetfires that had been sold, that all Jetfires (including the recalled ones) be either destroyed or handed over to Harmony Gold, and that Hasbro turn over all profits relating to the sales; this was to happen in addition to payment for all actual damages to Harmony Gold (despite Harmony Gold itself not knowing how much the actual damages were) and all punitive assessments assigned against Hasbro.
- Subsequently, an order was filed on September 23rd, 2013, to dismiss the case with prejudice, implying that Harmony Gold and Hasbro have reached a settlement. Although confirmation of a settlement, much less details thereof, has not been revealed, the fact that the case was dismissed with prejudice means that Harmony Gold cannot sue over the Jetfire issue again. By early October, the set was made available on Hasbro Toy Shop, though the set sold out quickly.
Notes

- As mentioned above, unlike most of the early Transformers range, the Jetfire toy was designed by Takatoku Toys, being a redeco (with a minor retool to blunt the nosecone) of their 1/55 Macross VF-1S Super Valkyrie. Naturally, because he was not designed by Takara, Jetfire was not released in Japan, since the toy (or, at least, a dozen variations of it) was released by one of Takara's rival toy companies.
