Divebomb (Energon)

- Divebomb is a Terrorcon from the Energon portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
Divebomb has no glaring weaknesses, although his desire to retreat when things get ugly is not a characteristic highly valued by his field commander Scorponok (though it REALLY should be). More than any other Terrorcon, he has a better sense of when to pull his troops before they get toasted. A driven and fierce warrior, he is armed with razor-sharp energon blades that combine into a giant, boomerang-type weapon.

When a trio of Autobots surveyed a hill for energon tower sites, Megatron sent a flock of Divebombs to attack them. Their numbers were so great that the Autobots were forced to Powerlinx. The attack proved to be a distraction to keep the Autobots from noticing the Insecticons consuming the energon underground. When the beetles emerged from the ground to support the Decepticon attack, the Autobots were overwhelmed and fled. Energon Volume 2

One of the most common forms of Terrorcon, the Divebomb drones were created by Alpha Quintesson to gather raw energon. Like Omnicons, they could handle the unrefined ore without injury, and convert it into a quasi-stable form for transport. Along with Battle Ravages for aerial support, the Divebombs were tasked with recovering as much energon as possible, so that Alpha Q could revitalize Unicron and use his power to recreate Planet Q and the other lost worlds the Planet-Eater ravaged. Divebombs first attacked Cybertronian forces at Asteroid City and Mars City, where they overwhelmed Tidal Wave and the meager defenses assembled by the pacifistic Omnicons. While a small group transported their prisoner Tidal Wave back to Alpha Q, the rest of the Terrorcons proceeded on to Earth, making their first strike at Ocean City. The Autobot defenses on Earth were much stronger and, after reinforcements arrived from Cybertron, the Terrorcons were all destroyed or driven off. Cybertron City Back in space, the Divebombs assaulted Lunar City, and despite suffering heavy losses successfully made off with a sizable quantity of energon. Energon Stars
Back at Unicron, the Terrorcons carrying Tidal Wave delivered him to Scorponok, the new Terrorcon general constructed by Alpha Q. Scorponok manipulated Tidal Wave into fighting by their side, and another attack was launched on Earth, this time at Desert City. Scorpinok Terrorcon attacks continued to retrieve energon for Alpha Q, on Mars and on Earth under the command of Scorponok and his ever increasing number of Decepticon allies. Megatron's Sword
The Terrorcons next attempted to beat the Autobots to a new source of energon in some snowy mountains, but failed to stop Kicker and Strongarm from setting off a beacon to Cybertron. Doctor Jones then dropped an entire new energon mining city on top of the Terrorcons, squashing a large number beneath its weight. The New Cybertron City
Alpha Q and Scorponok began to lose more and more Terrorcons with each raid, as the Autobots learned from each encounter and fortified their defenses. Events took a drastic turn when Megatron awakened inside Unicron. He quickly overpowered Scorponok and used his newfound connection with Unicron to assumed control over the Terrorcons being generated inside the entity. Alpha Q was forced to flee with Unicron's head, leaving the rest of Unicron and control of the majority of Terrorcons to Megatron. Megatron Resurrected As Megatron learned to control the Terrorcons, they provided him with an energon star, much like the Omnicons used to enhance the Autobots. Megatron next sent out the Divebomb and Battle Ravage drones to attack Lunar City, while Optimus Prime was busy fighting the rejuvenated Starscream. Starscream the Mysterious Mercenary They returned after their first strike to soak up every last morsel of energon on the moon. Battle of the Asteroid Belt The energon the Terrorcons collected was harnessed by Megatron to create a new space fortress for the Decepticons. When the Decepticons left for an attack on Earth, however, Alpha Q sent out HIS Terrorcons to steal energon, apparently from the Decepticons. (It was rather unclear if some Terrorcons were actually loyal to Alpha Q or Megatron individually, or if Alpha Q was taking advantage of Megatron's absence to merely be the only "user" interfacing with the Terrorcons in and around Unicron.) Energon Tower When Megatron uncovered the drop in energon reserves (although not the reason for it), he allowed Scorponok to take a cadre of Terrorcon drones back to Mars City to scrounge for any remaining energon. Alpha Q then tried a different tactic by sending stealth-capable Ravage and Divebomb drones to Jungle City, hoping they could recover a large supply of energon before the Autobots or the Decepticons even noticed. The plan failed, as all three sides began fighting over the energon mine, including a second group of Terrorcons loyal to Megatron. The Autobots eventually abandoned the base and detonated the energon supply altogether, destroying vast swaths of Terrorcon drones and ensuring that NO ONE got the energon. Crisis in Jungle City
As the Autobots attempted to bring their energon grid online to save the Earth from Megatron's comet strike, Kicker found two stealth Divebombs gumming up the tower in Desert City. Although initially hostile, Alpha Q's stealth hawk nicknamed "Blackout" responded well when Kicker generously offered them an energon star, and they became rather docile. Meanwhile, Rodimus led a squadron of Alpha Q's hawks in a suicide strike against the first comet, destroying it and buying time for the full energon grid to be activated. Blackout and the other hawk peacefully left Kicker at Desert City to rendez-vous with Rodimus. Before they departed, however, Ironhide snuck a pair of transmitters on the birds, so that the Autobots could track them back to the Terrorcon base later. Energon Grid Back on Unicron, Megatron discovered a Shadowhawk Divebomb spying on him for Alpha Q and became enraged. He began destroying Divebombs by the truck load, hoping to provoke some sort of reaction from his nemesis, but none came. When Scorponok returned from Mars with a new supply of energon, Starscream and Tidal Wave confiscated his Terrorcon drones immediately to prevent him from passing off the energon to Alpha Q and not Megatron. With one of the Shadowhawks disabled after Megatron found it in his throne room inside Unicron, and the other presumably back with Alpha Q in Unicron's head, the Autobots were surprised to discover Ironhide's transmitters pointed them to two entirely separate bases on opposite sides of the galaxy. During the approach of the Miranda II, Megatron deployed a flock of Divebombs with his Decepticons to annoy the Autobots. Kicker got rid of the birds by tossing chunks of energon at the Terrorcons, attracting them all together until Inferno sniped the energon chunks, blowing away any nearby Divebombs. A Tale of Two Heros After the Miranda II buzzed Unicron and then retreated through the Space Bridge, another group of Divebombs was sent out with the Decepticon team to pursue them. Battle Stations
In an attack on Cybertron, a squadron of Divebombs entered Autobot air space through a hole in the energon grid created by Megatron's new lieutenant, Shockblast. He then used them as cover while going after the rest of the energon towers. Shockblast: Rampage The newly reformatted Mirage led a cadre of Terrorcons to Cybertron where they accumulated a large amount of energon. This energy was used to revitalize Unicron into an active threat to the Autobots. More Terrorcons stood in defense of Unicron as the Autobots attempted to strike back. Unicron Unleashed Jetfire engaged a large number of Divebombs outside the body of Unicron while his comrades infiltrated the giant. Open Fire!
As Unicron's body fell through a rift in space and Unicron's head became the nexus of a new energon-based star housing Alpha Q, Megatron captured Scorponok in the aftermath of several battles. The Terrorcon general was forcibly reprogrammed to be loyal only to Megatron and, with Alpha Q essentially out of action as well, the Decepticons now controlled the entire Terrorcon force. Scorponok unleashed a cadre of Divebombs and Battle Ravages on his former Autobot allies on the Iron Planet after his brainwashing was complete. Protection Scorponok used the Terrorcons for an assault on Jungle Planet, where the Autobots had set up their temporary base of operations. Jungle Planet Although that assault failed, Iron Planet was now unguarded, and the Terrorcon were able to completely drain the planet of energon, destroying it. A second strike on Jungle Planet was interrupted, however, by an energon tower transported through the rift from Cybertron. Megatron employed Divebombs in an effort to stop the Autobots from setting up energon towers on Ocean Planet and Blizzard Planet, but they ultimately failed and an interplanetary energon grid was established between Alpha Q's new worlds. Farewell Inferno
When Scorponok uncovered the reincarnated version of Planet Q, he showed no remembrance or remorse, turning a Terrorcon horde on Alpha Q's reconstructed palace to recover the energon concentrated there. A squadron of Divebombs were later seen dropping another heist of energon on Unicron's regenerating surface. Crash Course After one last run for energon on a planet the Decepticons exploded, the Divebombs retreated to Unicron to guard the Planet-Eater while Megatron went through the final stages of bringing it to life. Omega Supreme Divebombs and Battle Ravages fought against the Autobots on Unicron's surface as Megatron attempted to reclaim the entity's head from Alpha Q. A Heroic Battle Spurred by Unicron's incessant need for energon, Megatron had Scorponok dispatch all the Terrorcons out into space to find more sources of power, making them absent during the final conflict that destroyed Unicron's body. As Megatron and Scorponok recovered from Unicron's destruction, they gathered the Terrorcons for an attack on Cybertron. Scorponok used Divebombs to assault the energon towers, while Megatron borrowed a squadron to accompany him beneath the planet's surface, following a siren call that promised him great power. Once the Decepticons assumed control of Cybertron, squadrons of Divebomb drones were seen flying the skies at Scorponok's command. Galvatron! They circled the planet looking for any Autobots left on Cybertron, attacking small outposts wherever they came across them. Break Through
When the Autobots engaged in a virtual combat game, several Divebombs cheered the Decepticon combatants on from the arena stands.Distribution
Scorponok brought out a squadron of Divebombs to hunt for Prime's Autobots when they landed back on Cybertron, and they had an aerial battle with Optimus, Wing Saber, and Superion Maximus amidst Cybertron's maze of columns and ramps. The Omega Train
Divebomb drones fought alongside Cruellock and Insecticon drones trying to overwhelm an Autobot medical facility holding out against Decepticon invaders, and later assisted Galvatron in battle with the main Autobot forces. Decepticon Army
Force of Habit
Several Divebomb drones survived past the destruction of Alpha Q and Unicron, emerging on the side of the Decepticons during the events surrounding the Unicron Singularity. They attacked Ultra Magnus and the Iron Hope during the Autobots' search for the Cyber Planet Keys. Force of Habit
Energon comic
Divebomb was part of a group of Decepticons called the Terrorcons, led by Scorponok and Alpha Quintesson. As part of this group, Divebomb participated in attacking an energon processor in Cyber City and witnessed several of the Terrorcons kill Starscream. Tidal Wave was damaged in the murder, so Divebomb and Insecticon helped prop him up when the Terrorcons were transported to Unicron. Divebomb then witnessed Tidal Wave's upgrade by Unicron and left with the Terrorcons through a space bridge to Earth so that they could harvest the energon there for Unicron. This Evil Reborn There, they attacked a human exploratory evacuation/drilling operation in Australia that had discovered a rich vein of energon. When the Australian government sent fighter planes to confront the threat, Divebomb relished in the opportunity to let loose and demolished several. What Lies Beneath The human distraction ended, Scorponok assigned Divebomb the task of maintaining the energon siphons, which he had to do with care lest the energon explode. What Lies Beneath, Part Two
When Divebomb finished calibrating the siphons, the Terrorcons treated themselves to an infusion of pure energon, which enabled them to easily defeat a force of Autobots that responded to a distress call. Before they could deal the killing blows, humans destroyed an energon siphon, which prompted Scorponok to prioritize gathering the remaining energon and the Terrorcons left the scene. What Lies Beneath, Part Three The Terrorcons were soon found attacking Alterenergy Mobile Command, forcing Kicker, their human prisoner, to assist them in finding energon. They were led to the Gregory Salt Sea, where they were again confronted by the Autobots. This time, they proved to be more of a match, thanks to the Omnicon-generated energon weapons. Unicron's Four Horsemen and Alpha Quintesson were not pleased with their failure and pulled the Terrorcons back to Unicron. What Lies Beneath, Part Four
In preparation for an offensive on Earth as punishment for allying with the Autobots, Alpha Quintesson had the Terrorcons cloned in mass numbers. The Divebombs were sent to attack Toronto and the destruction of the cities was witnessed by Optimus Prime from within Unicron. Multiplicity A Terrorcon extermination team was formed by Jetfire to deal with the clones as they wrought destruction to Earth on a massive scale.Multiplicity, Pt. 2 This team was sent out to shoot down the Divebombs who appeared in the skies above Toronto, Canada. Multiplicity, Pt. 3 They were soon joined by the reborn Megatron, who, with his Unicron-constructed body, effortlessly took down swathes of Terrorcons. Transformers Energon: Battle for Megatron
Divebomb and his fellow Terrorcons went on a mission to retrieve Megatron, held deep within Unicron's defenses. In order to destroy the many units standing in their way, Divebomb could use his "Blade Strike" or his "Eagle Strike" techniques. He could also screech out a battle cry to rally his fellow Terrorcons in their ongoing fight. The Terrorcons were eventually successful in liberating Megatron from Unicron's clutches. - Divebomb transforms into a white, robotic hawk with translucent green energon blade pieces attached to his neck and an energon star attached onto his spark crystal. The wings can further open up to reveal translucent green energon "feathers". The energon blade pieces can be held in his claws as either blades or guns, and both parts can be combined together to form an "Ultimate Energon Weapon" hooked blade "Energy Raiden".
- A running change retool was made to the Hasbro Divebomb. Early versions of Divebomb had the right energon blade end with a rather hard pointed spike (as seen in the official photography), which was changed to a 5mm peg-handle (likely for safety reasons). These early versions also have small ridges on the weapons' connector pegs, as well as notches on the robot's bird-head weapon sockets, designed to keep the weapon firmly in place. For unknown reasons, these were retooled to be perfectly round pegs and sockets along with the removal of the pointy spike. As far as can be told, only the two-handled toy was released in Japan.

- This redeco of Divebomb was a somewhat-limited retail release during Super Link. The character was known in the American Energon cartoon as Blackout, but was never released by Hasbro as part of the Energon toyline.
