The War for Cybertron Trilogy toyline uses a series of military insignia to denote each Autobot and Decepticon characters' position within their armies; while each faction has unique designs for their insignia, they follow a common system.

Each insignia consists of three parts: the division (ground, air, sea or space); the unit (infantry, artillery/weapons, special ops/black ops, transport, engineering/applied sciences, medical, or recon/intelligence/espionage,[1]); and the rank (private/raider, sergeant, specialist, captain, major, or general).[2]

Notes

  • The Mercenary, Quintesson, Maximal and Predacon factions do not use equivalent insignia; certain characters treated as Mercenaries by fiction are sold as Decepticons, and thus use their rank insignia, while Maximal and Predacon packaging has "cave paintings" of the characters' beast modes where the rank insignia are on Autobot and Decepticon packaging. Toys that do not fall into any faction do not feature the military insignia, of course.
  • Not every Autobot and Decepticon toy uses the military insignia:
  • Two unit symbols — the Decepticon "medical" symbol used by Roller Force and Ground Hog, and the "intelligence/recon" symbol used by Roadhandler, Swindler, and Slamdance — have yet to be officially named.
    • The unknown Decepticon symbol is likely to be the Decepticon medical unit symbol, as its "cross" shape is similar to that seen on the beta Decepticon medial symbol (see below), and Ground Hog's More than Meets the Eye bio describes him as repairing and improving his Decepticon teammates.
    • The unknown Autobot symbol is presumably the Autobot counterpart to the Decepticon espionage unit. However, it's unclear whether that counterpart is "intelligence", "recon", or something else.[1]
  • Omega Supreme's insignia image on the official Siege webpage[4] is different than the one on his toy and his named rank on said webpage. Instead of depicting "Space Command Transport Captain", the image showed "Ground Command Engineering Specialist," which is only found on Siege Ratchet's box. Autobot Specialist itself is a rank with no Decepticon equivalent and not included in Hasbro's official list of ranks on the Hasbro Pulse website. Conversely, Ratchet is depicted as "Ground Command Special Ops Sergeant" on the webpage, in both image and name, and "Ground Command Engineering Private" in his instructions.
  • The division symbols for the Decepticon Sea Force and Autobot Sea Command have not been used for any toys. It's unknown whether they were designed for purely in-universe reasons, or if a seafaring character like Tidal Wave or Broadside was planned at any point.
  • An early version of the Decepticon insignia placed the division symbol within the center of the insignia and the unit around the outside top, similar to the Autobot insignia. A development image from Hasbro Pulse shows a Decepticon medical unit symbol under this framework, seen to the right.
