Finally had a reason to sign up (images to upload). I may have deleted a new message by mistake when attempting to remove my initial, misplaced text from this page--which I thought I'd already deleted. The two photos I uploaded were taken by me and included with permission of the subjects, if anyone's wondering.--Apcog 02:30, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, welcome to the wiki! Thanks for us helping out for the benefit of Mankind. Or for the benefit of ourselves and other nerds on the internets. Same thing. --FFN 03:58, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
"Thanks for us helping out"? Well, if you want to congratulate yourselves, that's your business. (Yes, I know what you meant.)--Apcog 14:47, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, people should thank us for helping mankind!
Damn my dyslexia! --FFN 03:47, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Question

Good lord, is that some Doug Dlin I see? Assuming it is, I have a question in relation to a G1 Springer note from the Antarctic Press Cybertronian guides. There's a quote about the final toy being the fourth (or maybe third, I can't recall offhand) design. I was just curious if this originated from Transformers Generations or some other source. Thanks in advance.--MCRG 10:46, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

If you can actually see me, then I need to cover my screen or something, because I don't have a webcam setup. Anyway, it's been so long that I don't really remember. It might've come from Generations, but my copy vanished a few years ago and I was never able to get a replacement, so I can't check.--Apcog 14:07, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Took a moment to check the issue. The caption says the final toy was based on the fourth prototype design, all right. It sounds like something Harold would have contributed, though it could've come from Generations. Until/unless I get another copy, I won't know one way or the other.--Apcog 22:59, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Prince Guy

According to the dialogue script on Metrodome's Region 2 DVD set, the real name of the prince from Aerial Assault is spelled Jumal. --Monzo 02:57, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Indeed? Then the entire "Aerial Assault" article was wrong. I brought the name on the character list in line with the more frequent usage in the episode summary. So much for majority rules.--Apcog 03:04, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
To be fair, I can't remember how the name is pronounced in the episode itself - it's possible it was changed - but here's a screenshot from the dialogue script PDF. I reckon the person who wrote up the "Aerial Assault" article was simply unaware. --Monzo 03:42, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
That's okay, I believed you anyway and have already changed the article to reflect it. I also figured the original author of the article was probably as ignorant of the spelling as I was.--Apcog 04:03, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Talk pages

Please don't delete other people's comments from talk pages. (link) --FortMax 16:45, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

...the hell? I didn't delete any comments—not knowingly, anyway. I specifically added material at the bottom of that comments page in direct response to Rosicrucian. Best I can guess, you made that shorter response while I was composing mine (which was delayed by a few interruptions), and when I submitted my edit, rather than tell me the page was out of date, it overrode your comment. Sorry that happened, but it was definitely not deliberate.--Apcog 16:51, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Coming soon template

Coming soon templates go underneath the actual the text of the toy in question, as shown in the various Movie and Animated character articles. --FFN 21:20, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

D'oh! Shoulda checked, I suppose. Well, outside of that, any complaints?--Apcog 21:24, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Noise

Care to explain why you reverted the edits to Noise's article? --M Sipher 21:20, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Wasn't intentional. When I began editing, your changes weren't present yet. When I finished and submitted, the wiki didn't give me an "out of date version" warning, but simply processed my edits as normal. I noticed that the wiki connection was really sluggish this afternoon, too. Don't know if that had anything to do with it.--Apcog 23:21, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
That's... really weird. Okay. --M Sipher 23:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it happened to me once before, as you can see in my earlier Talk page discussions. Kind of annoying, as I definitely don't like being a wiki antagonist.--Apcog 23:45, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Graphy

Well, stuff like "lion" and "dinosaur" aren't scientific names. Pteranodon is the scientific name for the genus, and should be capitalized (and italicized). Interrobang 23:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Oh, so? I was going by common usage, which I thought was using the name uncapitalized. I certainly almost never see dinosaur names italicized unless they are specifically part of a scientific name, as opposed to designating the type of animal—e.g., a pteranodon vs. Pteranodon longiceps. Well, feel free to undo that aspect of my edits.--Apcog 23:44, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Spelling

Hey, after we reminded Fiction Alchemist that there are editors from the UK and the Commonwealth, and their English is just as valid as American English, I don't think it's the done thing to start taking the 'u' out of words like colour. ;) --FFN 19:26, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Wasn't aware there'd been such a policy established. Personally, I feel that having one consistent spelling style for the wiki is a better idea. AShould I simply ignore European-style English spelling differences, then?--Apcog 20:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, because hey, the UK significantly contributed to the Transformers fiction and several prominent editors here are either from the UK, Europe or from the Commonwealth. And as I said, our english is just as valid as American english on this wiki. --FFN 01:26, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't deny either fact. As I said, my aim in Americanizing British English was simply to establish a consistent spelling style for the wiki, not to deny the validity of British English spelling per se or the contributions of Europeans to the wiki.--Apcog 21:20, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
I think we should make American English the standard here. Not that I would get all pissy about English English being used, nor would I bother making changes, but if someone were to make changes, it should be towards American English. And if someone does make those changes towards American English, it shouldn't be a problem.
Japan has also significantly contributed towards Transformers fiction, but I hope that doesn't mean we allow every third word of our articles to be in Japanese. --ItsWalky 22:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'm certainly capable of ignoring King's English spellings when I make corrections, but it's reassuring to know that, by wiki policy, Americanizing them isn't considered specifically wrong.--Apcog 22:26, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Block Town

I can't seem to find the snippets of info from Fumihiko about the line. I dimly remember "Carzap" being -apparently- a new guy who is not Windbreaker... any chance you can see if Fumihiko is able to provide more packaging/name info on these guys? Maybe come BC? --M Sipher 06:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. You'll probably have to remind me closer to the date so I can remind him. Meanwhile, I don't get any results Googling "Carzap" and "Block Town", either on the net or Google Groups.--Apcog 07:51, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Template!

Lil' thing... we do have a {{preview bastard}} template that's all cute for multiple minor changes peoples. I'm quite happy with it. --M Sipher 07:09, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I know, I think I've used it once or twice. I didn't feel I needed it for conversing with Aamp, though, since he'd already been reprimanded by the time I got there. (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to, since that's the only "multiple minor changes" case I've been involved with inthe last several hours.)--Apcog 07:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Japanese!?

Hey, since you're one of the resident Japanese experts, could you take a look at Talk:Great Turn-Around! Autobot Warriors!? It looks alright to me, but I'd like a look-over by somebody more experienced. —Interrobang 00:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, another Japanese favor to ask. Could you translate "空中山脈大爆破" (the Furigana given is "くうちゅうさんみゃくだいばくは"), the Japanese title for "Power Surge"? I composed a list of the Telemocha DVDs for pack-in flyer, but couldn't figure out how to effectively translate this title. —Interrobang 05:47, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! —Interrobang 06:15, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the clean up

Thank you for the clean up, Doug! By the way, why don't you post at TFW or the Allspark? :) Might Gaine 00:01, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Kinda figured that was you, Jeff. I don't post there for sheer lack of time. I spend more time here than I should as it is...--Apcog 02:33, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
I know what you mean. I'm beginning to feel like I'm addicted to this place.Might Gaine 02:43, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

A favour to ask

So long as you're cleaning up Movie Bumblebee's article, can you clean up my stupidly long Movie section for him? Though I'd like you to keep my specific mentions of what songs he plays when he tries to help Sam court Mikaela. Thanks. --FFN 16:04, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Given the time, I'll see what I can do.--Apcog 16:10, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

In place of; replacing.

...yeah, I'd never heard of it either. -- Repowers 01:02, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Considering most of our readers are likely going to be in the same boat, I suggest using a more common synonym, then.--Apcog 02:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Preview button

Sorry dude,i usually use the preview button, but for some reason the preview just wouldn't show up that day. --Decepticon Rhinox 14:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh it did load, but very glitchy. Decepticon Rhinox 16:22, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Commas

We appear to have stylistic differences about comma usage. I suggest we try to respect each other's usage. Or, we could duel to the death, like our ancestors before us... JW 16:08, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

The rule of thumb I learned, at least for commas between clauses linked by a conjunction, is that if the remainder of the sentence after the conjunction can stand alone as a full sentence (that is, if it's an independent clause), you use a comma. There are exceptions, of course.--Apcog 16:22, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
There are rules, and there is style. In the example from Survival of the Fittest, I think
"The episode ends before Bulkhead, Prowl, and Fanzone return Sari to her father, and before the Autobots report back in to Prime."
is clearer and easier to read than
"The episode ends before Bulkhead, Prowl, and Fanzone return Sari to her father and before the Autobots report back in to Prime."
With the comma, the sentence is less run-on, and the separation of the two events is maintained. No comma is required there, but it isn't prohibited either. So, I ask that you respect my choices. The alternative is that we initiate a discussion on the Style Guide page, and I really think this is too picayune to warrant that. JW 16:41, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
That's a borderline case, true, mainly because of the phrase including "and" within the dominant clause which could potentially involve confusion with the clause-linking "and", as you note. With all the comma misuse pervading the contributions here, I sometimes get carried away; normally, I'd have let that go. I think you'll find that, on the whole, I haven't really dogged your contributions that badly...have I?--Apcog 18:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
In general, not that I've noticed. Yesterday, however, this edit raised my eyebrow, and when something similar happened again today, the beast within me was stirred to frenzy comment. JW 18:27, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that edit doesn't really make any sense. Decepticon Rhinox 18:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Seems fairly straightforward to me. There was no reason to set apart the phrase "and sent them to Earth in a Decepticon ship" by commas. The carryover phrase-starter "with" negates the need for a comma after "teamed up on Earth". Using a comma between "embedded his hand" and "cannon-blasted Venom" implies that a third action by Galvatron is coming in the list, when in fact the rest of the sentence shifts away from him, so it's better to link the two actions with a conjunction as a two-item list. "Once on Earth" and "With the Time Wars over" are establishing prepositional phrases, which are generally set apart by commas. "The battle escalated" is a dominant clause preceding a subordinate clause and doesn't take a comma. If the sentence were reversed, with the subordinate "as more and more Autobots" phrase first, it would take a comma. Or so are the rules as I have learned them.--Apcog 20:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm spamming

Canvassing a few talkpages here so we can get folks to weigh in and finalize the potential Wiki image policy. Your input would be appreciated at Transformers Wiki talk:Images.--RosicrucianTalk 18:40, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Check before you give me an {{unsigned}}

Please don't attribute (unsigned) comments I didn't make to me (like you did on Talk:Black Friday (episode) with one of GWolfv2's comments). - SanityOrMadness 03:53, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Quote format

FYI: script style quotes, with the speakers already in bold next to their lines, don't need to have a second bold-font attribution at the bottom. They can be left in plain font; it's kinda redundant otherwise. -- Repowers 16:58, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Hunh...and here I thought I was just being consistent. Oh well.--Apcog 18:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, the attribution lines don't always even mention all the characters who speak, so it's actually kind of irregular to bold the characters who do get mentioned. Heck, with script format, the attribution line isn't even needed at all, unless there's some special reason to comment on the action; it's just somehow become standard to add such comments. -- Repowers 18:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
So, uh, where does that leave me? Or should I even worry about it?--Apcog 18:53, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
So, uh, where does that leave me?

Reign of Starscream

Hey Apcog. Thanks for catching those spelling errors I missed in my writeup of issue 2's synopsis. I've been having trouble lately with the edit screen cutting off parts while I'm writing, so the help is greatly appreciated. I guess this goes to show that even aspiring editors need some beta help sometimes ;) --Nightshade83 01:38, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
