After witnessing Gigastorm get blown away by the Legendary Green Lion's mighty Matrix Typhoon, Galvatron rushes to his sibling's side, and Gigastorm weeps at his failure to match his older brother's standards. Galvatron commends his efforts and Gigastorm closes his eyes, happy at finally getting praise from his older brother. The other Predacons panic at his apparent death, but Galvatron clams them down by noting that Gigastorm has just run out of energy and stares down the Green Lion. Transforming into drill tank mode, the Emperor of Destruction rushes at the Green Lion, and the lion responds with an attack of his own, resulting in a clash that unfazes the lion. Galvatron recognizes his power as that of the Energon Matrix and the Green Lion splits into Lio Convoy and Lio Junior. The Maximals are elated that their commander has survived and Lio Junior is leaping at the chance to rush into battle with the Predacons, but Lio Convoy orders him to wait, as violence is not the only way to solve problems.
Galvatron commends his opponent on surviving the Angolmois Energy and possessing a mighty energy himself, but Lio Convoy replies that the true extent of the Energon Matrix is unknown to him; within the storm of Angolmois Energy, Lio Convoy and Lio Junior's spirits were able to unite as one. Lio Convoy resists resorting to force and instead asks Galvatron a question: Why does he want power? Galvatron again explains that he needs an infinite power to rule the universe—to conquer it under one will and bring about true order without everybody's conflicting wills creating chaos. Lio Junior and Lio Convoy unite in rebuking this, stating that compassion for one another can bring order and unification as one, much like how Lio Convoy and Lio Junior merged as the Green Lion. Galvatron dismisses the two as naive Maximals and is about to show them power when the Tako Tank emerges from the ground with Scuba inside! The squid explains that he did reach the core, but realized its destruction would've also meant Gaia's as well and instead spent time drilling holes to release the Angolmois Energy out to space to avert a gigantic explosion. Lio Convoy implores the Predacons to surrender and, while his subordinates decide discretion is the better part of valor, Galvatron refuses to give up and flies to the planet's core. Lio Convoy and—after finally getting approval from his "father"—Lio Junior give chase. The remaining Maximals try to figure out how to get off-planet, but are interrupted by the remaining Predacons, who refuse to cease fighting as long as their leader doesn't give up; they also have little to worry about the destruction of Nemesis, as they can fly.
Nemesis looms closer to the Moon, where Artemis and Moon are still holding steady to prevent Gaia's Angolmois Energy from flowing to Nemesis. They beg Lio Convoy and Lio Junior to finish the job before their lives expire.
Lio Convoy and Lio Junior rush into a rocky chamber at the center of Nemesis, where the Emperor of Destruction absorbs all of the planet's collected Angolmois Energy to reach a titanic size, despite Lio Convoy's pleas that his body can't handle that much energy. While Galvatron rants about his true destiny to bring order to the universe, Lio Convoy and Lio Junior come up with a plan to use the Energon Matrix to seal off the Angolmois Energy into discrete bundles to prevent a cataclysmic explosion. The two merge into the Green Lion and begin spreading portions of the Matrix's energy to seal off the Angolmois Energy.
On the surface, the Maximals and the Predacons at stuck in stalemate when a surprise comes for all of them—Scuba has hijacked the Predacons' Galvaburg II! Hellscream berates the Maximals for being thieves, and refuses to evacuate when Dirgegun and Thrustor ask if they should. Hellscream is about to go into a monologue about Galvatron inspiring him when a puddle of hot Angolmois Energy hits Gigastorm's tail and he wakes up violently, ruining Hellscream's moment.
The Green Lion continues sealing off Galvatron's Angolmois Energy into capsule when Scuba's device begins going off. Despite their possible deaths, both Lio Convoy and Lio Junior persist, taking apart Galvatron's body. The Maximals evacuate on the Galvaburg II when they witness the Angolmois capsules emerging from Nemesis to scatter throughout space, while the Cyborg Beasts evacuate along with Gigastorm. Despite having the Angolmois Energy ripped out of his body, Galvatron still survives and is urged to flee by Lio Convoy; the Emperor refuses. He still has a remaining amount of Angolmois Energy in his Galva-Matrix—it's not enough to conquer the universe, but it's still quite enough to take down Lio Convoy and Lio Junior with him! Left with no choice, the green warrior takes out his blades and the two cross blades. Lio Junior separates from Lio Convoy, and Lio Convoy uses Galvatron's moment of surprise to strike at the Predacon's Galva-Matrix, putting an end to his threat forever.
The fourth wall was destroyed in the explosion, clearly.
Nemesis collides with the moon, and the resulting explosion forms a new, singular body orbiting Gaia. Most of the Angolmois Energy has been collected in capsules that have been spread throughout space. Thanks to both, Gaia was safe from the explosion. Artemis and Moon have also survived the ordeal, ending up in the ruins of their moon station. Artemis doesn't remember her decisive actions during the crisis and ponders what's become of the Maximals and the Predacons. Moon reassures her they must be fine, somewhere...
The Maximals find themselves in a dark void, where Lio Junior explains that Lio Convoy used the last of his energies to save them all, and Lio Convoy adds that they're in a wormhole formed from the energy explosion—a dimensional passage created in space. A mysterious path of light emerges and Lio Convoy recognizes it as the passage to a new battlefield that needs the Maximals' justice. As they soar along the path, the Maximals give their goodbyes and Lio Convoy promises to see you again.
NAVI is not shown travelling into the wormhole with the rest of the Maximals and is absent from the episode altogether. But if the thought of her safety has been keeping you up at night, don't worry. She'll be shown alive and well in the Beast Wars Neo episode "Graduation Ceremony!!".
Likewise, the fates of Artemis, Moon and the surviving Predacons will be revealed in "Graduation Ceremony!!"
As for Galvatron, he's dead, but his visage will make a comeback in the Beast Wars Neo episode "Unicron Revived!?"

Trivia
Look, Scuba took the time to make a diagram explaining his plans to disperse the Angolmois Energy! And you thought all the standing around the past few episodes was just unnecessary padding.
Before a complete translation of the series was available, the mistaken belief was often repeated on Transformers message boards that all the Maximals actually died at the end of the episode, making it a really dark ending for a light-hearted show.
