Optimus Prime and Bumblebee clash with Grimlock and Snarl for a crate drop.

Synopsis

In the jungle region, Optimus and Bumblebee discuss their next move. Bumblebee notes that the menacing Scorponok is still blocking the path to the Autobot shuttle, and doubts whether they should risk facing the giant. Optimus concludes that the shuttle is the only clue to where they are and how they got there. The two are distracted by an orange glow in the distance, which their HUDs identify as a "crate drop". They decide to check it out, but have to dive into the bushes as Grimlock and Snarl thunder onto the path. Not seeing the pair, the Dinobots openly discuss that they could use the crate's upgrades. Grimlock is especially eager after only getting battle damage the last time they tried. After the Dinobots stomp away, Bumblebee is ready to speed off and get to the crate first. He proclaims the upgrades are just the thing they need to help them defeat Scorponok. Optimus is reluctant to pick a fight with Grimlock, saying Bee is not ready for a fight after his encounter with Megatron, but Bumblebee persists, and the pair transform and roll out.

Later, the pair find themselves in a valley of thick mud with the crate on a cliff-face on the far side. As the two Autobots approach the cliff, the Dinobots appear. Grimlock mocks Bumblebee before opening fire, knocking Bee backward. The Dinobots charge, but Bumblebee grabs a vine and throws it around Grimlock's legs, sending him sliding. Snarl attacks Bee with his sword, only to be rammed by Optimus in truck mode. Optimus orders Bee to get to the crate, while he fights the Dinobots. Bee is half way up the cliff when he sees Optimus getting cornered. He tries to help, but that only reveals his position. Grimlock launches Snarl up to the cliff, and the nimble Dinobot smugly forces Bumblebee back down. After an argument, Optimus and Bee use the mud to trap the Dinobots and disable Grimlock's cannon. Optimus and Bee are about to grab the crate, but the Dinobots arrive atop the cliff via a geyser. The Dinobots transform and charge, but Bee unlocks the crate and finds an Energon ax and a wrist-mounted blaster. He tosses the ax to Optimus, who whacks Grimlock upside the head with it. Working together, the two Autobots use their new armaments to drive the Dinobots to the edge of the cliff. After a brief stare-down, Grimlock concedes, and warns Optimus to stay out of his way in the future. The battle won, Optimus spies a new green beacon, and declares it their next objective.

Transformers references

Real world references

  • When Bumblebee scans Scorponok, translating one of the readouts reveals the text 'THREAT LEVEL MIDNIGHT', a reference to Michael Scott's crappy movie from The Office.
  • Snarl is shown running with his arms hanging back and his body hunched over, which is how ninjas are shown to run in popular media such as the Naruto franchise and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012).
  • Optimus' axe is shown to come back to him after he throws it, similar to how the Marvel character Thor is shown throwing Mjolnir and Stormbreaker in the MCU. Both Thor and Optimus Prime from Transformers One have been played by Chris Hemsworth.

Trivia

  • This episode was uploaded with the previous episode in a combined video titled "Optimus Prime Fights Grimlock in Extraction Mission", similar to the second episode being uploaded in a second combined video with the first episode, but being shown before the predecessor episode. Series writer Ali Lightfoot later revealed the official names for the first three episodes. [1]
