There wasn't a "." in "DrSpengler" so it wouldn't technically qualify as a proper "Dr." abbreviation. Just me keeping myname the way it's been for 7 years. ;(
But it's okay.
This isn't gonna change the name I use to log in, is it? --DrSpengler 00:58, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm doesn't look like it will. Alright, no big deal. --DrSpengler 01:01, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
He he he... I'm making mischief! (You can move it back if you like.) -Derik 01:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Monzo's thingy
I realize these Japanese entries are basically stubs at this point, Speng, but you may want to copy the base code out of a pre-existing profile and use that... like, the first instance of a name in a profile is always bolded, the divisions for Fiction and Toy, etc. --Monzo 05:32, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Um
...what? --Suki Brits 05:19, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Christ, I didn't think anybody was EVER gonna notice that. Oh, and that's an advertisement at a pizza joint here in Springfield that's been boggling the minds of pizza-lovers since the late 80's. I'm sure if the guys at TV Magazine ever got around to drawing Scrash they would've made him a little black girl. Almost positive, in fact.--DrSpengler 05:25, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Images
Hey, Spengler, I wouldn't give a shit if I couldn't see Derik freaking out over it in Recent changes, but be sure to add {{hastak}} to all of the images owned by Takara and Hasbro you upload and the specific company and date (the last part I'm not so sure about, but whatever), like on Image:PredakingTVMag1.jpg. Thanks. Thumbs up to your manga edits. Singularity 06:32, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- It doesnt' actually bother me that much. I was bad at it when I first started too. (the wiki still has a bunch of un-credited images from it's early days before we cracked down on adding copyright info, we fix 'em as we see 'em)
- Spengler just had a LOT, so I fixed what I could find. I think I hit about 80% of 'em, and I'm willing to call it a day.
- Go forth and sin no more my son. -Derik 06:37, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Ah, okay. Not a problem. I was used to uploading pics in the regular Wikipedia, which had a drop-down bar on the uploading screen which allowed you to select specific copyright options. So when I found no such thing on this wiki I figured "Oh, guess it doesn't matter?" But yeah, not a problem. I'll start adjusting all my pics from now on. --DrSpengler 06:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you! o^.^o -Derik 07:03, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, just went through my entire "User Contributions" list and added the copyright info to every single picture I've posted on this wiki, so we should be square. Thanks for getting so many of em for me.--DrSpengler 07:16, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Notes
- Ah, Speng? You don't have to add a series title after a profile's name if the name has never been used by another character. That's why people move some of the pages you make, like Predaking, Tigerhawk, etc - there aren't any other guys with those names, so the tagging is redundant.
- Also, the point of the italics at the opening section... it's supposed to be a one-sentence thing about what continuity they're in (like "so-and-so is a (faction) during the (whatever)"). The descrptive part after that (where the name gets bolded) is not italicized.
- When all else fails, default to Sunstreaker or Hot Rod for formatting - they're our formatting example boys.
- (And, er... this is just a personal point of view, but we don't require everything to be jokey/sarcastic. Feel free to be informative without mirth.)
- I apologize if I'm being blunt about this, but I felt the points worth mentioning. --Monzo 22:48, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- No prob. It's taking me longer to get the hang of this than I tought. The (BWG1OCUC) crap is half me not thinking about it/half me thinking there was someone in another story with the same name. I'll hold back on those more often.
And the jokes, well, I'm just naturally a jokey kinda guy and one of the things Sipher stressed to me in the PM he sent requesting my help was "Just make em funny". If I've gone past the territoy of "funny" and into "obnoxious" I'll give it a rest, no sweat. --DrSpengler 22:52, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm faintly apalled that someoen other than me recognized lyrics to a rap song that onyl appeared ont he B-side of a movie soundtrack from the late 80's. -20:56, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm one of the four people on the planet who actually owned a copy of the Ghostbusters II soundtrack. You are in an exclusive club, Mister! --DrSpengler 21:05, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Then I'm probably the only person to reques this song on the radio, only to learn at a tender age that they only play singles. (This is probably a precursor to my only listenign to alternative radio that plays b-side tracks today, actually.) -Derik 21:55, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Seiyu
I'm happy someone else is interested in seiyu. Most of the Transformers actors were listed individually in the Transformers: Generations book. Some of the Laserdiscs and DVD sets also had cast info. Although sometimes some info condradicts other sources. The First Series Complete lists many of The Rebirth dub actors (which I haven't been putting in here for the most part, so not to confuse people). The Micron Legend Year Book lists virtually every character and voice from the series.
As for dubs of American movies, you might try tora-2.com. I got a few hits for the DVD version of Ghostbusters there.
If you want, I could try posting my giant (Japanese language) seiyu list on one of our talk pages or something. Evan1975 03:34, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- ...Speng is going voice actors? Sweet. 'cuz I dont' think I'll ever get back to this.
- (The link at the bottom also contaisn goodness) -Derik 04:29, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh hey, you read Japanese, dont' you Speng? Which way am I supposed to read Doug's list relative to these pages? The way I'm doing it now makes Rhinox a pretty girl, and that doesn't seem right somehow. -Derik 01:20, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Matrices
Hey, Speng? Did you see this discussion we had on Japanese Matrices? Given that both Lio Convoy and Fire Convoy specifically had an "Energon Matrix", I'm wondering if that's what Primal and Big Convoy were also supposed to have... I don't have any good Neo-specific books, though, and Big Convoy's instructions only call his device a "Matrix" (with no qualifiers). I DO have a book that's basically Cine-Manga of the BW2nd movie... maybe that would specify what Primal's is.
(Also, I continue to doubt the existence of the "Hyper Convoy" thing beyond it being something Star Upper once called himself.)
What do you think about all this? --Monzo 02:25, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Personally, the name "Leadership Matrix" never really sat well with me, as it was just sorta "made-up" as a means to differentiate it from the Matrix of Leadership. I wouldn't object to Leadership Matrix being changed to "Energon Matrix", since that's the name that's most commonly seen.
As for Hyper Convoy, that I really know little on, as I haven't had the pleasure of reading the Neo manga. I wrote the article-itself based on what I was told happened in the Neo manga. I honestly don't recall a single use of the term in any of the BW animation, though my memory of some of that show is a bit sketchy. --DrSpengler 02:39, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
BWII Ships
The Predacon ship in Beast Wars II has the incredibly unfortunate title of "Galvaburg II" - as in Hindenburg, one assumes. Which really makes one wonder what happened to the "Galvaburg I", and why Galvatron would decide to use that name again.
The Maximal ship is the "Yukikaze", which I think literally means "snow wind" - however, since the name is rendered in katakana and not kanji, it doesn't get translated for the article title (a la Majin Zarak not being Demon Zarak). --Monzo 22:04, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Speakin' of translating Manga
I've got a BW2 roleplaying book that has a bunch of BW2 omake (and a short left-to-right manga) in it. woulds you be interested in translating? (I've become more interested in documenting the omake since learning that FMA integrated a bunch of the manga's omake in the anime-- they may be AU-- but they're still cannon.) -Derik 03:36, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- ...a ...roleplaying... book? Like a sourcebook for a system or like a gamebook or what? I'm totally interested in this, as a retired RPG fag. -hx 03:45, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
If the kanji has furigana, and it's big-enough for me to see, then sure, I can give it a go. You can e-mail me the scans (or put em on photobucket, whichever). --DrSpengler 04:44, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- If this is what I think it is, it's not a role-playing book in the sense of being an RPG stats book, but rather the book about how to play with your toys that I bought at BotCon. Like, "LioConvoy is captured under the desk! Pick a Cybertron with high stats to defeat Starscream and BB (assuming you own them)!" --Monzo 23:34, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Good gravy... --DrSpengler 23:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Japanese kids aren't expected to be very creative, I guess. --Andrusi 23:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
....Wow. I kind of want a copy of it EVEN MORE now. That sounds in-fucking SANE. -hx 02:49, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Nemesis
Hey, Speng. Just watched a boatload of BW2nd clips on youtube, and I noticed that... Galvatron's Nemesis appears to devour both Jupiter and Saturn. Sucked 'em up like a vaccuum cleaner. I don't have any context for when these events happened, but they definitely seem worthy of adding to the Nemesis's fiction section. Do you know where the info would go? --Monzo 13:42, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I believe it happened at the point where the Nemesis was looming menacingly over everyone's heads, figuratively, as Galvatron had summoned it to Gaia. It took, like, a thousand episodes to freaking GET THERE. But yeah, that IS significant. heck, there's even a screencap of the thing sucking Saturn at the Nemesis (BWII) article. I'll add it into the summary. --DrSpengler 16:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
PD Type and G2 Manga Brat
Hey speng, what were these packed in with? Theyr'e (c) 1990, which is why I asks. -Derik 04:35, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Looking at my copy of Generations it would appear to be "gum pack toys". Tiny super deformed toys bearing the likeness of the PD Type comic characters came in tiny packs with gum, the manga and a character bio "interview". I did a quick article on it here: Transformer PD Type. --DrSpengler 05:02, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
And here's an archive of the comics online (untranslated, of course): Kabay. --DrSpengler 05:03, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- You are cool, and punctual.
- What's this kid's name? I want to give him a page. -Derik 02:59, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- Looks like his name is "Junpei". No last name that I could find. "The Earth is in Danger" is actually next on my list to translate. Now that I've scanned over it more thoroughly looking for that punk's name, maybe I'll get to work on it this week... --DrSpengler 05:44, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
I'ma Questionin' Yer Thinkin'
What's your source for the trivia over on Cosmos' Japanese name? I know it's from somewhere given that you put it in, I just want to know where.--MCRG 04:26, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- If Nevermore said it, I'd take his word for it considering how meticulously he researches... everything. So the article's probably fine.--MCRG 04:56, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Capitalisation Question
Hey man, thanks for the punctuation clean-up on my new Scale article; much appreciated. Just one question though, is it actually a rule that one has to decap all the Unicron "He"s and "Him"s? It is the appropriate usage for a god, after all... Let me know, ta, PacifistPrime.
- Hmm I think you might have me confused with someone else. I don't recall doing that. Sorry. --DrSpengler 00:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Translatin' request
here -Derik 18:36, 9 May 2007 (UTC) Insert formula here
Primitives?
Do we need to tag all of those characters as such? It's pretty continuity-specific, which bugs me though maybe also applies to some existing tags. But it also is a really arbitrary descriptor. The "Primitives" in COTP were basically just the TFs with animal altmodes, and as such this category would include only those Transformers who existed at the time AND were included in the episode. This makes for quite a few characters who SHOULD fit in the category but arbitrarily won't, and even more so makes for a category that... basically means nothing.
Are we also going to make "Cars", "Trucks", "Helicoptors", and "Tanks" categories? --Sntint 05:01, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- The difference here is that "Primitives" is a specifically-named group. Also, I believe all the Transformers Spengler put in the category actually do belong there, unlike the person who originally made the page and threw in characters from UT and BW. - Dark T Zeratul 05:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
What he said. "Primitives" doesn't apply to every animal Transformer, but just the ones that were summoned by the Oracle in "COTP". --DrSpengler 11:59, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, like I said, then, that's a category that only applies to one very specific storyline in one particular continuity. Do we need a category like that? Is there a precedent; some other category that's similar that's been done already? --Sntint 13:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
